Her voice was eerily calm. "Will there be any sequelae?"
"Mr. Ye's hand..." the doctor hesitated. "If the rehabilitation isn't ideal, it might affect his fine motor skills."
Ning Xiwan dug her nails into her palms, but she felt no pain. When she turned around, her long hair covered half of her face, revealing only a perfect smile: "Thank you, doctor. I will take good care of them."
The moment she walked out of the doctor's office, her eyes completely turned cold. The lights in the corridor condensed into ice in her eyes, as if even the air was freezing.
——Ning Xiuyan, how dare you?
On Friday night, Ning Xiuyan was half drunk when he came out of the private club. He loosened his tie and casually draped his expensive suit jacket over his shoulders.
The driver opened the door for him and he stumbled into the back seat.
"Go back to the old house." He ordered vaguely, closing his eyes and leaning back on the leather seat.
As the car drove into a remote auxiliary road, there was a sudden loud noise.
"What's going on?" Ning Xiuyan opened his eyes irritably.
"It's a flat tire, Young Master," the driver stammered. "I'll go change it right away..."
Ning Xiuyan cursed, opened the car door, and walked to the side of the road. The night breeze blew away some of the drunkenness. He fumbled for a cigarette case, but found that his lighter wouldn't light.
Just then—
A sack fell from the sky and accurately covered his head.
"Who?!" Ning Xiuyan struggled and roared, "Do you know who I am?!"
In response, he was hit by a heavy punch directly in the stomach. Ning Xiuyan doubled over in pain, and then was kicked hard behind the knee, causing him to kneel heavily on the ground.
Fists rained down like raindrops, each strike precisely avoiding vital points but causing maddening pain.
Ning Xiuyan's screams were muffled by the sack, and he could only twist on the ground like a dying fish.
The attacker was obviously an old hand - he targeted the areas below the ribs and the inner thighs that were the most painful but would not leave obvious scars.
When an elbow hit him hard on the back of the neck, Ning Xiuyan finally fainted.
The moment the sack was ripped open, moonlight illuminated the deserted path. The attacker had long since vanished, leaving Ning Xiuyan slumped on the side of the road like a dead dog, his expensive suit stained with mud.
It was already two in the morning when Ning Xiwan returned to the hospital. The moment she pushed open the door to the ward, she heard Duan Shuce's hushed voice: "...The way you eat with your left hand is so stupid."
Ye Qingliu responded coldly: "It's better than you limping and jumping around."
Ning Xiwan stood at the door, looking at the half-eaten midnight snack on the table between the two beds.
Ye Qingliu held a spoon in his left hand, and half of the porridge in front of him was spilled; Duan Shuce jumped on one foot to get the water cup and almost fell.
Her eyes suddenly turned red.
"Wanwan?" Duan Shuce noticed her first and immediately revealed his signature mischievous grin. "You're here so late? Did you miss me?"
Ye Qingliu raised his head, his gray-blue eyes looked like melting glaciers under the light.
He didn't say anything, but just silently pushed the glass of water towards her.
Ning Xiwan walked over and suddenly hugged them both. She buried her face in Duan Shuce's shoulder and smelled a mixture of disinfectant and blood.
"...I'm sorry." Her voice was choked with sobs.
Duan Shuce was stunned, then gently rubbed her hair: "Silly or not, it's not your fault."
Ye Qingliu hesitated for a moment, then gently patted her back with his uninjured left hand: "...It's okay."
When Ning Xiwan raised her head, she had regained her composure.
She adjusted the leg brace for Duan Shuce.
"Go to sleep," she whispered, "I'll keep you company."
When their breathing became even and long, Ning Xiwan stood in front of the window, the moonlight outlining her slender figure.
She took out her cell phone and looked at the message she had just received: [The second young master was sent to the hospital and was seriously injured].
The corners of her lips curled up in a cold arc.
——This is just the beginning.
