Chapter 240 No One Sympathizes with Him

Her fingers were long and white, her nails neatly trimmed and rounded, without any nail polish. "Are you okay?"

Ning Xiuyan looked at her warily, his muscles tensing unconsciously: "What are you doing here?"

Ning Xiwan showed a hurt expression, her amber eyes gleaming with tears: "I am your sister after all."

She poured a glass of water and handed it to him. The condensation on the wall of the glass slid down her slender fingers. "Drink some water."

Ning Xiuyan didn't answer, but stared at her intently: "Did you do this?"

"What?" Ning Xiwan blinked, her long eyelashes casting a tiny shadow on her face, looking innocent.

"Put me in a sack!"

Ning Xiwan suddenly smiled, and that smile made Ning Xiuyan feel a chill down his spine.

She leaned over and whispered in his ear: "Second brother, if I were to do it..."

Her breath had a faint minty scent. "You should be in the ICU now." The last syllable was so soft that it was almost inaudible.

She stood up and regained her gentle demeanor. "Have a good rest. I'll come see you another day."

When she reached the door, she suddenly turned around. The sunlight shone in from behind her, gilding her outline. "By the way, Ye Qingliu's hand has recovered well, so you don't need to worry about it."

The moment the door closed, Ning Xiuyan grabbed the bunch of baby's breath and smashed it hard at the door.

The petals are scattered all over the ground like a small snowflake.

As Ning Xiwan walked out of the ward, she saw Ning Xiuyuan leaning against the window in the corridor smoking.

His slender figure was stretched out by the sunlight, and the smoke swirled in front of him, blurring his expression.

"Having a good chat?" He blew out a perfect smoke ring.

Ning Xiwan shrugged, the sunlight dancing on the tips of her hair: "Second brother is not in a good mood."

Ning Xiuyuan stubbed out his cigarette, the spark slowly dying in the ashtray. He suddenly asked, "Do you know who did this?"

"How would I know?" Ning Xiwan tilted her head, the sunlight filtering through the window casting tiny specks of light on her face. "Maybe she's a friend of the boy whose hand he broke? Or maybe a close friend of the girl he bullied?"

She smiled, revealing two small dimples. "Second brother has too many enemies."

Ning Xiuyuan stared at her for a long time, then suddenly smiled: "You're right."

He adjusted his tie, the family crest gleaming on the platinum tie clip. "By the way, Dad's birthday is next month, remember to come home."

Ning Xiwan nodded and turned to leave. Her footsteps echoed in the empty corridor until they disappeared at the elevator entrance.

Ning Xiuyuan stared at her back, his eyes gradually growing colder. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number: "Check Ning Xiwan's recent whereabouts, especially last Friday night."

He paused and added, "Focus on checking her contact records with Ye Qingliu and Duan Shuce."

At the same time, in a popular milk tea shop in the west of the city, four girls were huddled in a booth in the corner looking at their phones.

The sunlight shone through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting warm spots of light on them.

"Hahaha, look at this!" Hua Jinyue held up her cell phone, her pink twin ponytails dancing happily with her movements.

On the screen was a post from an anonymous forum: "Shocking! The second young master of the Ning family was hospitalized because..." The accompanying picture was a grainy photo of Ning Xiuyan being carried into an ambulance on a stretcher, with suspicious stains on his pants.

Ye Fanshuang sipped her milk tea elegantly. She was wearing a Chanel tweed jacket, and her pearl earrings shone softly in the sunlight. "My cousin works in a hospital, and he said he needs to use adult diapers now."

There was an undisguised schadenfreude in her voice.

Bai Zhiye pushed his glasses, and a cold light flashed in his eyes behind the lenses.

A notebook lay open before her, densely scribbled with chemical formulas: "The laxative formula could be improved. Try croton extract next time."

Her voice was as calm as if she were discussing the weather.

Ning Xiwan propped up her chin and looked at them with a smile. The sunlight flowed in her amber eyes like melted honey. "Well done."

She pulled three small boxes from her Gucci bag. "Thank you."

Hua Jinyue couldn't wait to open it, and found a redemption code for an out-of-print game skin; Ye Fanshuang received a pair of diamond earrings from Tiffany; and Bai Zhiye received an electronic version license for an out-of-print novel.

"Next time there's an event like this, remember to call me." Hua Jinyue licked the milk cap on her milk tea, her eyes shining like stars. There was a little cream on the corner of her mouth, and she looked innocent.

Ye Fanshuang and Bai Zhiye exchanged a glance, and reached a rare consensus: "We must not let Qingliu know."

The two people's voices overlapped, and they turned away in disgust at the same time.

Ning Xiwan smiled without saying a word. The sunlight shone through the glass windows of the milk tea shop, stretching the shadows of the four girls very long.

Outside the window, a robin landed on a branch, tilted its head to watch the scene, then flapped its wings and flew into the blue sky.
