Chapter 269 Calming the Storm

But the looks from all around were like countless barbed needles.

"Look, isn't that Ning Yunmeng?"

"Shh...keep your voice down. I have a 'flower protector' here. Be careful or Young Master Qin will cause trouble for you."

"Tsk, is being rich such a big deal? Buying trending searches and deleting posts, do you think everyone is stupid?"

"Exactly. The video surveillance and transfer records are all proven. Why are you pretending to be innocent?"

"I heard that her suitor, Qin Yuheng, spent a lot of money on her..."

"Tsk, only someone as blind as Qin Yuheng would treat her like a treasure..."

The deliberately suppressed discussions, accompanied by undisguised sneers and contemptuous looks, surged from all directions like an icy tide, instantly drowning Ning Yunmeng.

Those eyes penetrated her sunglasses and pierced her carefully crafted mask. She felt like she was stripped naked, standing naked under the spotlight, enduring everyone's scrutiny and spitting.

She clenched the strap of the bag tightly in her hand, her nails almost digging into the leather, and her steps became faster and faster, wanting only to escape from this suffocating place.

"Oh! Isn't this our 'kind-hearted' Miss Ning?" A female voice with a strong sense of sarcasm suddenly sounded in the front.

Ning Yunmeng's steps suddenly stopped, her heart beating wildly.

She raised her head and looked through her sunglasses to see Wang Jia and two other girls who usually followed her and fawned over her. They were now blocking the path with their arms folded, with undisguised gloating and contempt on their faces.

Wang Jia walked forward, looked Ning Yunmeng up and down, and sneered: "What? Are you willing to come out? How much money did Master Qin spend to help you settle those 'little troubles'? Tsk tsk, what a generous gesture."

She deliberately emphasized the three words "little trouble".

"Jia Jia, don't say that," a girl next to her said hypocritically, "Yunmeng is also a victim. She was framed by her vicious sister, right?"

She looked at Ning Yunmeng, her eyes full of malicious mockery.

Ning Yunmeng was so angry that her whole body was shaking, and her eyes behind the sunglasses were almost spitting fire.

These fence-sitters! They used to follow her around like dogs, but now they dare to kick her when she's down!

"Get out of the way." She tried to make her voice sound cold and tough, but the slight trembling still betrayed her inner panic.

"Get out of the way?" Wang Jia raised his eyebrows exaggeratedly, took a step closer, and his voice suddenly rose, full of malicious pleasure.

"Ning Yunmeng! You've come to this day! Keep pretending! Keep pretending to be innocent! Paying people to slander your own sister? You're such a jerk! Didn't you perform well in that play in the auditorium?"

"Unfortunately, the audience has sharp eyes! Now the whole school knows what kind of person you are! Do you think that deleting the post will solve everything?"

"I'm telling you, Ning Yunmeng, you're a joke in our eyes! A vicious joke that can't be washed away even with money!"

"You!" Ning Yunmeng was so angry that her vision went dark. She raised her hand to hit him, but Wang Jia grabbed her wrist fiercely.

"What? Still want to fight?" Wang Jia was very strong and pinched Ning Yunmeng's wrist bones so hard that it hurt. There was a twisted look of pride on her face.

"Forget about it! Without the aura of the eldest daughter of the Ning family, who are you? Only that blind man Qin Yuheng treats you like a treasure! If I were you, I would go home and hide, and don't embarrass myself in public!"

She suddenly shook off Ning Yunmeng's hand with such force that Ning Yunmeng staggered back several steps. Her sunglasses were tilted, revealing a red and swollen eye full of resentment.

Wang Jia and the two girls burst into shrill laughter and walked away.

Ning Yunmeng clumsily held onto the tree trunk next to her to avoid falling. Her sunglasses slipped down her nose, revealing her pale, distorted, tear-stained face.

Students passing by cast glances at her, some curious, some disdainful, pointing and talking. She even saw someone secretly raise their cell phone.

The huge sense of shame and anger almost consumed her.

She yanked up her sunglasses, covered her face tightly, and stumbled out of the path as if avoiding the plague, running towards the school gate.

She twisted her high heels, but she didn't care about the pain and just wanted to escape from this hell that ruined her reputation.

A black Bentley Mulsanne was already waiting outside the school gate. The car window rolled down, revealing Qin Yuheng's face with a warm smile: "Yunmeng! This way!"

Ning Yunmeng opened the car door as if she was grabbing a life-saving straw, almost rushed in, and quickly closed the car window to block out all possible sight from outside.

"Yunmeng, are you okay? Why do you look so bad?" Qin Yuheng wanted to touch her with concern.

"Don't touch me!" Ning Yunmeng suddenly opened his hand, her voice sharp, filled with lingering panic and resentment that had nowhere to vent.

Then she realized her own loss of composure and forced herself to suppress her turbulent emotions. She leaned back in her chair, closed her eyes, and said in a voice filled with fatigue and a barely perceptible tremor, "...Drive, take me home."

Qin Yuheng was stunned for a moment, looking at Ning Yunmeng's pale and fragile (he thought) profile, his heart softened, and he quickly told the driver to drive.

The car drove smoothly away from Shenzhen University, leaving behind those contemptuous looks and harsh comments.

The carriage was completely silent. Ning Yunmeng squeezed her eyes shut, her body still trembling slightly. Qin Yuheng's "help" only temporarily silenced the gossips, but it couldn't stop the people's anger.

The image she had painstakingly cultivated for many years at Shenzhen University, in the Ning family, and even in that circle, had completely collapsed.

Those who once envied and fawned over her are now laughing at and spitting on her behind her back!

Ning Xiwan...it's all because of you! Ning Yunmeng's nails dug deep into her palm, leaving crescent-shaped blood marks. She wouldn't let this go! Absolutely not!
