Chapter 301 Qin Brothers' New Year's Eve

Qin Yuzheng's dining posture was elegant and efficient, his movements were as precise as a set procedure, his eyes were calm, focused on the food in front of him, as if this was just a task that had to be completed without any enjoyment.

Qin Yuheng used a silver fork to unconsciously fiddle with a piece of perfectly fried foie gras on the plate. His beautiful phoenix eyes drooped slightly, and his long eyelashes cast a small shadow under his eyes.

He didn't eat much, spending most of his time just looking at his brother across from him. He watched his bony hands gripping his knife and fork, his cold, focused profile, the curve of his Adam's apple sliding up and down as he swallowed...

The air was suffocatingly still. The light from the enormous crystal chandelier enveloped the two of them in a strange, cold loneliness.

It was Christmas Eve with snow falling outside the window, but inside the window there was only the cold echo of the collision of knives and forks.

Qin Yuheng suddenly put down his knife and fork, and the silverware made a soft "ding" sound on the plate, breaking the dead silence.

"Brother," he spoke, his voice containing a deliberate smile, trying to break the ice.

"As for the Ning family, the admission procedures for Songshan Sanatorium have been completed. Ning Yuanshan was very sensible and signed that 'statement'. He also promised to 'keep an eye on' his daughter and not cause us any more trouble."

He paused, his tone taking on a childish air of seeking credit, "Are you satisfied with this New Year's gift?"

Qin Yuzheng cut the steak without any pause, and he didn't even raise his eyelashes.

He put a small piece of tender meat into his mouth and chewed it slowly, his movements unhurried. Only after swallowing it did he pick up the napkin and wipe the corners of his mouth with extreme elegance, his movements as perfect as a textbook.

He raised his eyes, and those deep, cold eyes finally looked at Qin Yuheng. There was no satisfaction or dissatisfaction in them, only a pure, scrutinizing calmness.

"A gift?" His voice was low and calm, and it was impossible to tell whether he was happy or angry. "Do you mean to completely solve the problem of Ning Yunmeng, or... this farce you directed?"

The smile on Qin Yuheng's face froze for a moment, then blossomed into a brighter, even somewhat rogue arc: "Of course... to solve the problem! Brother, look, she knows something she shouldn't know, and she's trying to use it to threaten you, and even threaten our Qin family!"

"How could I tolerate this? So I just... gave her a push, shutting her up completely, and at the same time, helped the Ning family clean up their mess."

He tilted his head, his eyes innocent yet cunning. "As for the process... Brother, don't you think it's quite interesting? Watching those self-righteous idiots perform hard on the set stage, and finally fall to pieces..."

He kept talking, trying to catch a trace of emotion from Qin Yuzheng's face, which had been frozen for thousands of years, even if it was just a hint of impatience.

However, there was nothing. Qin Yuzheng just looked at him quietly, his eyes as calm as an unfathomable cold pond, as if he was listening to a trivial matter that had nothing to do with him.

Qin Yuheng's voice gradually became lower, and the relaxed smile he had been trying to maintain disappeared like smoke blown away by the cold wind.

The glimmer of anticipation in the depths of his eyes dimmed bit by bit. It was like this again.

No matter what he did, no matter how big a problem he solved, no matter how extreme the means he used to attract his attention, all he got was this... indifferent calm.

It was as if he was just an insignificant background figure who occasionally made some noise.

The huge loss and an unspeakable grievance, like a cold tide, instantly drowned Qin Yuheng.

He lowered his head and poked the cold foie gras on the plate with his fork. His beautiful lips were pressed into a stubborn straight line, and a suppressed low pressure spread around him.

The restaurant fell silent again, with only the faint hum of the heating system making the sound.

Qin Yuzheng's gaze lingered for a few seconds on his lowered head, which was obviously angry.

There seemed to be something extremely subtle in those deep eyes, like an undercurrent under the ice, passing by very quickly, so fast that it was impossible to capture.

He said nothing, but picked up his knife and fork again and continued his unfinished dinner, his movements still precise, graceful, and silent.

The dinner ended in a suffocating silence. Qin Yuzheng stood up and walked straight towards the study, where there were still piles of documents waiting for him to deal with.

Qin Yuheng watched his brother's tall figure disappear at the end of the corridor. He stood there, like a young animal abandoned on an icy plain. A huge sense of emptiness and frustration gripped him.

He rubbed his hair on his forehead irritably, turned around, and instead of going back to his equally empty and cold bedroom, he walked towards the huge glass greenhouse connected to the main house.

That place might be the only place in this cold mansion that still has a bit of life.

Pushing open the heavy glass door, a scent mixed with soil, plants and moist warmth hit me in the face, instantly dispelling the coldness outside the door.

It is warm as spring inside the greenhouse, and the huge space is carefully designed into a miniature landscape of a tropical rainforest.

Tall broad-leaved plants stretch out their lush green leaves, vines entwine around metal supports and hang down, various rare flowers bloom in a constant temperature and humidity environment, and the air is filled with rich and complex floral fragrance.

Fine water droplets condensed on the ceiling and the surrounding glass, and the heavy snow falling outside became a blurry background.

Qin Yuheng did not turn on the main light, but only lit a few wall lamps with soft light hidden among the plants.

The dim light casts mottled shadows among the dense branches and leaves, making the entire space appear even deeper and quieter.
