Chapter 311: When the Cicadas Sing in Midsummer - College Entrance Examination

He exaggeratedly covered his chest and pretended to be injured.

Ning Xiwan's ears burned at his sudden accusation and approach. She pushed his head away angrily, "Stop it! You're so lively! Who told you to take so long to come out?"

She said with disgust, but immediately took out a bottle of iced sour plum soup and a small bag of mint candy that had been specially packaged from the thermal bag and stuffed them into his hand.

"Here, it's for you! Shut up! How does it feel?"

Duan Shuce took the cold bottle and candy, and his expression immediately brightened up. He smiled so hard that his teeth were visible, "My Wanwan still loves me!"

He unscrewed the bottle cap, tilted his head back and took a big gulp. The cold sour plum juice slid down his throat, bringing a sense of refreshment. He sighed comfortably.

"Feelings? Hmm... It's okay. The questions aren't too difficult. It's just that the ceiling fan in the exam room creaks so loudly that I almost turned my essay into a complaint manual."

His tone was relaxed, but Ning Xiwan still caught the seriousness that flashed across his brow.

He then looked at Ye Qingliu, raised his eyebrows and said, "Hey, son, how did you do in the exam? Did you not embarrass your sister Wan?" He casually threw a mint candy into his mouth.

Ye Qingliu was sipping the mung bean soup handed to him by Bai Zhiye. Hearing this, he didn't even raise his eyelids and only replied with two cold words: "Childish."

He casually stuffed the "talisman" with twisted stars painted on it that Hua Jinyue had taken out back into her rabbit bag.

"Hey! Brat! You dare to talk back to your dad after the exam?" Duan Shuce pretended to ruffle Ye Qingliu's hair.

Ye Qingliu swiftly dodged to the side and brought Hua Jinyue behind him to protect his sister from Duan Shuce's "claws".

Bai Zhiye watched them bickering from the side, covering her lips with her hands and chuckling. The fatigue she felt after the exam seemed to have dissipated a lot.

Ning Xiwan looked at the familiar and vibrant scene in front of her, and the string in her heart, which had been tense due to the college entrance examination, finally slowly relaxed.

"Alright, alright, both of you stop talking nonsense." Ning Xiwan tried to smooth things over with a smile, her eyes sweeping over the four of them.

"The morning is over, don't think too much. Hurry up and find a cool place to eat and rest, and recharge your energy. The afternoon is the highlight! The Chinese exam is over, and math is your strong point this afternoon!"

"I got it, Sister Ning! Brother, Brother Duan, Sister Nai, what do you want to eat? I'll treat you!" Hua Jinyue immediately responded positively, patting her chest with great enthusiasm, as if she was not the one who was nervous just now.

Bai Zhiye suggested softly, "There's a good tea restaurant nearby. It's quieter, cleaner, and the food is served quickly, so it won't waste time."

She was very thoughtful.

Ye Qingliu nodded: "I'll listen to you."

Duan Shuce shrugged and finished the remaining sour plum soup. "I have no objection. As long as I'm full, that's all. Wanwan has the final say."

He naturally reached out to take the parasol from Ning Xiwan's hand and held it above her head.

"Then let's go to that tea restaurant." Ning Xiwan made the decision.

The group chatted and laughed as they walked against the still surging crowd, heading towards the direction where the shade was thicker.

When passing by the black car, Ning Xiwan caught a glimpse of Ye Fanshuang already sitting in the car, with the windows closed and his sunglasses still on.

The driver seemed to be asking something, but she just shook her head slightly, her attitude still cold and aloof. The car quickly started and slid silently into the traffic.

Ning Xiwan withdrew her gaze. Everyone has their own path to take, and everyone is experiencing their own "college entrance exam."

The June wind blew by with heat waves, and the tall plane trees on the roadside cast dense green shades. The leaves gleamed with an oily luster and rustled in the light.

Behind them, the fateful entrance to the examination hall still stood silently, awaiting the start of the next competition. And ahead lay theirs, a long, summer filled with endless possibilities.

The gentle clinking of ice cubes in the thermos, the whispered words of the teenagers discussing the test questions, and the crisp laughter of the girls all melted into the hot and bright cicada chirping.
