Those were not the soft petals of heavy snow, but tiny, hard snow particles polished by the biting cold wind. They were like countless miniature star fragments, sparkling with an icy luster, adorning his body.
The warm light from the lab fell on his face, outlining a breathtaking, perfect outline, like a sculpture of an ice god. His skin, after the long flight and the bitter cold outside, seemed even colder and paler, like fine oriental porcelain.
His deep violet eyes shone with a faint light under the lamplight, with a hint of imperceptible fatigue, but the moment he stepped into this space, he accurately captured the figure standing on tiptoe, struggling with the bookcase.
He gently closed the heavy door with his backhand, completely isolating the raging wind and snow from outside.
His movements were so quiet as if he was afraid of disturbing anything.
Mu Xinrong knew nothing about this. His fingertips finally, almost touched the rough bottom edge of the dark blue book! He held his breath and pushed his body upwards again.
At that moment, his center of gravity lost its delicate balance. His body involuntarily tilted forward, his footing unstable, and he stumbled backwards in a slightly awkward manner.
My back slammed into a broad and solid chest.
A complex scent mixed with the crisp wind and snow on a cold night, the unique warmth of top-grade cashmere fabrics, and a cold and unique body breath that belonged only to Chao Youye, instantly enveloped him.
This breath seemed to have magical power, with an absolute presence, so familiar that it was engraved into the bones.
Mu Xinrong's entire body stiffened, as if paused. All his movements froze, his arm reaching for the bookcase still hanging in mid-air, having forgotten to retract it.
There was a brief blank in the brain, as if the signal on the screen was interrupted.
Immediately afterwards, an incredible ecstasy, like burning magma, broke through all barriers and rushed straight to the top of the head along the spine!
His heartbeat went haywire, pounding like crazy in his chest, making his eardrums buzz. He turned around so quickly that his movements created a small gust of air.
The face that he had been thinking about day and night and engraved in the deepest part of his heart suddenly appeared before his eyes without any warning.
"Youye?!" Mu Xinrong's voice was raised even though he himself was not aware of it. It was filled with great surprise and incredible shock, and it sounded particularly clear in the silent laboratory.
His eyes widened instantly, and his clear pupils burst into a light brighter than all the ceiling lights in the laboratory combined, clearly reflecting Chao Youye's figure covered with stardust-like snow particles.
"On you..." Mu Xinrong almost subconsciously and greedily took a deep breath of the air mixed with the scent of ice, snow and Chaoyou leaves, and a huge and pure smile bloomed on his face, like a star that suddenly lit up.
“…It smells like snow!”
His voice was filled with pure, unreserved joy and warmth, as if these cold snow particles had become the sweetest gift in the world.
Chao Youye looked down at the little sun that was lit up in an instant. In the depths of her deep and cold purple eyes, the frost and snow that had condensed due to long journeys and intensive work melted away silently and quickly under this pure and blazing light, leaving only a soft warm current.
He didn't say anything, just raised his hand.
It was a slender, strong hand with distinct joints, but at this moment it was noticeably cold.
The knuckles were slightly red from the low temperature outside, like a few rose petals falling on white jade.
This cold, slightly red hand precisely pinched the back of Mu Xinrong's neck.
The force was neither light nor heavy, but carried an unquestionable sense of control and deep intimacy. The cool touch of the fingertips passed through the warm skin, causing a slight shudder.
"It's the smell of rushing to meet a greedy cat." Chao Youye finally spoke, her voice low and slightly hoarse after a long flight, but like the mellowest cello sound, each syllable was wrapped in a gentle smile, striking precisely on Mu Xinrong's heartstrings.
His eyes fell on Mu Xinrong's upturned cheek, which was slightly flushed with surprise. His fingertips unconsciously stroked the warm skin on the back of the other's neck, dispelling the biting chill.
Mu Xinrong shrank her neck when he pinched her, like a cat with its neck pinched, but the smile on her face widened, her eyebrows curved, filled with sweetness and attachment that was almost overflowing.
"I'm not a greedy cat!" He retorted in a low voice, but his voice was so soft and unconvincing. Instead, his body honestly rubbed against Chao Youye's arms again, like a small animal seeking shelter, absorbing the familiar, reassuring warmth and breath.
Chao Youye laughed softly, and a slight vibration came from his chest. The laughter was like a warm current surging under the ice, low and bewitching.
He released his hand that was pinching the back of his neck, slid down, and naturally wrapped his arms around Mu Xinrong's waist, holding him tighter and completely in his arms.
Even through the thick cashmere coats and soft sweaters, they could still feel the heat from each other's bodies and the rhythm of their heartbeats.
He leaned over slightly, rested his chin lightly on the top of Mu Xinrong's soft head, took a deep breath, and the tip of his nose was filled with the clean, refreshing, and warm scent from the other's hair, as if it had been sun-kissed.
The crisp scent of snow particles and the warm breath of the person in his arms blended together miraculously, flowing silently in the constant temperature laboratory, weaving an invisible, addictive web.
Outside the window, the long-simmering first snow finally began to fall. It was no longer tiny ice particles, but real, large flakes, like torn clouds, swept by the strong wind, fluttering and falling to the ground one after another.
