After having her disguise completely ripped apart and warned by Zhang Xuanhua, Xi Wanrong was like a frightened bird and was depressed in the mall for several days.
She didn't dare to contact Zhang Xuanhua again, and even felt nervous when she saw anything related to Guanghua College.
She tried to put all her energy back into work and numb herself with busyness, but the obsession that clung to Ye Qingliu was like a maggot attached to her bones, and it did not dissipate because of fear. Instead, it bred even more twisted madness in the desperate situation.
Since Zhang Xuanhua's path is blocked and Ye Fanshuang is an insurmountable iceberg, I can only rely on myself.
She needs money! Lots of money! To package herself, to break into higher-level social circles, to create opportunities to "accidentally run into" Ye Qingliu! She can't stay in this small counter forever!
A dangerous idea was growing wildly in her mind - embezzlement of public funds.
The jewelry counter where she works has huge daily turnover, and its management is not perfect.
As a veteran teller, she was familiar with the loopholes in the process. With the right approach, she could embezzle a portion of the funds within a short period of time, then replenish them with the money she found on her new "prey," all without anyone noticing. Her immense greed and a sense of luck overwhelmed her fear.
Xi Wanrong began to act cautiously. She took advantage of the gaps between shift changes to forge sales documents, leaving some of the cash receipts out of the account or under-recording them.
She became extremely cautious and anxious, and any slight movement made her tremble with fear.
She began to look for new targets more frantically - men who came to the mall, looked rich and easy to hook.
That afternoon, Xi Wanrong had just completed a "special operation" by secretly stuffing a thick stack of cash into the compartment of her handbag hidden in the locker, her heart still pounding.
She tried to maintain her composure, a professional smile on her face, ready to greet the next customer.
Just then, a familiar figure appeared in front of the counter.
Zhang Xuanhua.
He didn't wear a sweatshirt today. Instead, he wore a light blue shirt of fine texture with his cuffs casually rolled up, and well-tailored casual trousers, which made his figure look more upright and slender.
He seemed to be in a good mood, with a faint smile on the corner of his lips, and the man wearing glasses, Liao Feng, was still following him.
Xi Wanrong's smile froze on her face in an instant, her heart seemed to be tightly grasped by an invisible hand, and her blood seemed to solidify instantly.
Why is he here?! Did he discover something?!
Zhang Xuanhua's eyes casually swept across the dazzling jewels on the counter, and finally fell on Xi Wanrong, who was pale and trying to remain calm.
He seemed not to notice her abnormality, and a clean, gentle, even apologetic smile appeared on his face, as harmless as when they first met.
"Sister Wanrong, good afternoon." His voice was clear and pleasant, carrying the youthful vigor of youth. "Is it okay to disturb you from working?"
Xi Wanrong's throat tightened, and she could barely speak. She could only manage a stiff smile that was uglier than crying: "Zhang... Young Master Zhang? Why are you here?"
Her palms were instantly soaked with cold sweat, and her hands hidden under the counter unconsciously clenched the hem of her uniform skirt.
"Oh, I came here with a friend to get something." Zhang Xuanhua pointed at Chen Mo next to him, his smile still bright.
"I was passing by here and saw Sister Wanrong, so I thought of coming over to say hello."
He tilted his head slightly, a hint of just the right amount of concern in his light blue eyes, "Sister Wanrong, you don't look well? Are you too tired?"
"No...it's okay! Maybe...maybe I didn't get enough rest last night." Xi Wanrong's voice was dry and trembling, her eyes were dodging, and she didn't dare to look Zhang Xuanhua in the eye.
Zhang Xuanhua nodded thoughtfully, his eyes seemingly sweeping over Xi Wanrong's handbag, which was placed on the inside of the counter with a corner of it exposed, where she hid her money.
His gaze lingered on the handbag for a fleeting moment, too fleeting to be captured. Then, he smiled even more gently. "Sister Rong, make sure you get enough rest that night. I have a friend who's looking for a birthday present for his mother. He has a good budget, but he doesn't know much about jewelry."
"Sister Wanrong has such good taste. When you're free one day, I'll introduce him to you for some consultation."
Introduce a friend? A rich friend? Xi Wanrong's heart skipped a beat! The flame of greed instantly overwhelmed her fear!
This is an opportunity! A new opportunity! Could it be that Zhang Xuanhua... has forgotten what happened before? Or has he not actually discovered that she embezzled public funds?
He was just passing by, was he really just here to say hello?
She looked at Zhang Xuanhua's sincere and harmless face, and his clear light blue eyes, and her lucky mentality prevailed again.
Maybe... maybe he was just trying to scare me? Maybe he had no idea what I had done? Maybe... maybe he still had some "old feelings" for me?
"Of course... of course!" Xi Wanrong tried to make her voice sound enthusiastic and professional, and put a smile on her face again.
"You're welcome anytime! Mr. Zhang's friends are my friends!"
The smile on Zhang Xuanhua's face deepened slightly, like sunlight penetrating through ice: "Then it's settled. Sister Wanrong, you go ahead and get busy. We're leaving."
He waved to Xi Wanrong with the carefree gesture of a young man, turned around and left the counter with Liao Feng, quickly disappearing in the crowd of people in the mall.
Xi Wanrong looked at their departing backs and breathed a long sigh of relief. The cold sweat on her back almost soaked her underwear.
She slumped against the counter, her heart still pounding, but a feeling of exhaustion from surviving a disaster mixed with the ecstasy of being hit by a huge pie.
Zhang Xuanhua wanted to introduce her to a client! A wealthy client! This was like timely help! As long as she could close this big deal, her commission would fill most of the gap! She even began to fantasize about getting into that circle through Zhang Xuanhua's friends...
