Su Xinghui stood at the airport exit, dragging her suitcase, looking at the city she had not seen for a long time.
Six years.
After graduating from elementary school, she was sent abroad to study and was only now allowed to return to China. She took a deep breath, and the air was filled with the familiar smell of dampness and prosperity.
The phone vibrated. It was a message from Ye Fanshuang:
"Are you there yet? I'll be waiting for you at Exit A3."
Su Xinghui raised the corners of her mouth slightly and quickened her pace.
She and Ye Fanshuang grew up together and were true besties from wealthy families. The eldest daughter of the Ye family was outgoing and decisive, while Su Xinghui was more reserved and thoughtful.
As soon as she walked out of the exit, she saw Ye Fanshuang leaning against a silver sports car and waving at her.
"Welcome back, Miss Su." Ye Fanshuang took her luggage with a smile.
Su Xinghui hugged her and said, "I missed you so much."
Ye Fanshuang raised an eyebrow: "Don't come on, are you having fun abroad?"
"It's okay, just a little boring." Su Xinghui sat in the passenger seat and fastened her seat belt. "How about you? How have you been lately?"
Ye Fanshuang started the car, and the smile on his lips faded a little: "Same old."
Su Xinghui turned her head to look at her: "...or Ye Qingliu?"
Ye Fanshuang didn't answer, but his eyes said it all.
Su Xinghui sighed.
She knew that Ye Fanshuang had liked Ye Qingliu for many years. Since junior high school, the boy with gray-blue eyes had become the only obsession in her heart.
Unfortunately, there has always been an ordinary girl by Ye Qingliu's side——Bai Zhiye.
"Forget it, let's not talk about him." Ye Fanshuang changed the subject, "There's a cocktail party tonight, will you accompany me?"
Su Xinghui nodded: "Okay."
She looked at the scenery passing by outside the window, but inexplicably thought of another person in her heart - Chao Youye.
She has liked him for a long time.
But Chao Youye... seemed to have never really looked at her.
(————Time dividing line)
The cocktail party was held in the banquet hall on the top floor. As the elevator was rising, Ye Fanshuang suddenly said, "Follow me closely later."
Su Xinghui was startled: "What's wrong?"
Ye Fanshuang put away his phone and said calmly, "There are a lot of people here today, don't run around."
Su Xinghui nodded: "Okay."
The elevator doors opened, and the melodious sound of a violin immediately filled my ears. The banquet hall was magnificent, its crystal chandeliers reflecting a dazzling light. Guests, elegantly dressed, gathered in groups of three or four, toasting and chatting.
As soon as Ye Fanshuang appeared, he immediately attracted a lot of attention.
"Miss Ye is here."
"Who's that next to her?"
"It seems to be the daughter of the Su family, who just returned from abroad..."
The whispering sound reached her ears, and Su Xinghui felt a little uncomfortable, and subconsciously leaned closer to Ye Fanshuang.
Ye Fanshuang noticed her movements, turned his head and whispered: "Ignore them."
Su Xinghui said "hmm" softly.
Su Xinghui shook the cup slightly, her eyes seemingly casually sweeping across the crowd of people in elegant clothes and toasting each other, but like a lost ship, she could never find a safe place to rest.
She didn't like it here. This kind of occasion always made her feel like an outsider who had strayed into a beautiful window display, a soul that didn't fit in under the bright dress.
Her eyes subconsciously searched the crowd, with some kind of hidden expectation that even she herself did not want to delve into.
That name, that figure, like a mark deeply rooted in her bones, attracted her attention.
Then, without warning, her gaze suddenly froze, as if she had been pinned to the spot by an invisible icicle.
In a corner where the crowd was relatively sparse, next to a Roman column decorated with huge white calla lilies, stood Chao Youye.
He wore an impeccably tailored black suit, which accentuated his tall, pine-like figure. His inky black hair was meticulously combed, and the lines of his profile, under the bright light, outlined the cold curve that she had already imagined in her mind thousands of times.
He leaned slightly sideways, looking intently at the person in front of him.
The boy - Su Xinghui's pupils suddenly contracted - was wearing a light gray casual suit with excellent texture. He was slightly shorter than Chao Youye and had a clean and gentle temperament.
He tilted his face up, his eyebrows curved, and the corners of his lips turned up, revealing an unguarded, even childish smile.
Su Xinghui had never seen him before, but that face was like an ice-cold key that unexpectedly inserted into a dusty corner deep in her memory, prying open the vague and almost forgotten fragments.
In high school... that shadow that always appeared from afar beside Chao Youye? That name... Mu... Mu Xinrong?
She couldn't be sure, and a strong and unfamiliar feeling of rejection instantly gripped her.
But the impact of this vague cognition is far less than one ten-thousandth of the scene before our eyes.
He stretched out his hand towards Youye, his movements incredibly gentle and with a patience that Su Xinghui had never imagined he would have.
His fingertips, slender and steady, carefully pinched a tiny wrinkle on Mu Xinrong's tie near his Adam's apple, and smoothed it out carefully and slowly.
Instead of dodging, Mu Xinrong raised his chin slightly in a very natural way to facilitate his movements.
Those curved eyes were filled with pure trust and dependence, as if such intimacy had already become commonplace.
Just as Chao Youye's fingertips accidentally brushed across Mu Xinrong's slightly protruding Adam's apple, Mu Xinrong seemed to be teased by the subtle touch. His smile deepened, and his Adam's apple subconsciously rolled slightly.
The corners of Chao Youye's mouth, which were always tightly pursed and had cold lines, suddenly curled up into an extremely soft, almost doting arc.
The smile was very shallow, but it was like a lightning that tore through the darkness, instantly burning Su Xinghui's eyes.
