The cave's interior was more complex than I'd imagined. The passage was narrow and winding, with strange rocks everywhere. The ground was slippery and uneven, and cold water dripped onto me from time to time. After walking about a few dozen meters, the road ahead seemed to open up a little.
Ning Xiwan suddenly stopped!
At the end of the darkness ahead, an extremely faint, flickering... dim light appeared!
It's lights! There's someone!
Ning Xiwan's heart instantly jumped into her throat! She quickly dodged and clung to a wet, uneven rock wall, hiding herself perfectly in the shadows.
She cautiously stuck her head out a little, squinted her eyes and looked forward in the dim light.
Before me lay a naturally formed, slightly open cavern. Two crude, battery-powered camping lanterns hung on the cave wall, emitting a dim, flickering light that barely illuminated the small area.
Under the light, Ning Xiwan saw a scene that made her scalp tingle and her blood almost freeze instantly.
In a corner of the cave, some worn-out bedding, empty mineral water bottles and instant noodle packaging bags were scattered around, which was obviously a temporary resting place.
But what was even more shocking was that near the cave wall, two people were tied with iron chains!
They were two young women! Judging by their clothing, they looked like nearby villagers or passing travelers. Their clothes were ragged, their hair was unkempt, their faces were as pale as death, and their eyes were empty and numb, filled with extreme fear and despair.
Their mouths were tightly bound with dirty strips of cloth, and they could only utter faint, mournful moans. Their exposed arms and legs were covered in purple bruises and scabbed wounds.
What was even more terrifying was that one of the men had a blood-oozing gauze wrapped around his wrist, and the location... was clearly the place where blood was drawn or even more horrific operations were performed.
And next to them, there were three people standing!
One of them was the skinny monkey who was holding the silver-white refrigerator, soaked all over and shivering like a drowned chicken.
His face still showed the shock and fear of escaping death, and he was saying something hurriedly to the other two people.
The other two were one who was extremely tall and burly, like an iron tower. He wore a dirty vest that revealed his muscular build and hideous tattoos. There was an ugly scar on his face that stretched from his brow to the corner of his mouth. His eyes were as ferocious as a wild beast, and he was playing with a machete that gleamed with cold light in his hand.
The other was relatively short and stocky, wearing an ill-fitting suit, with slicked-back hair, but his eyes were as cold and cunning as a venomous snake.
He was holding a high-intensity flashlight that seemed to be used to inspect the "goods" and was looking at the two tied women with a scrutinizing gaze.
"Damn it! Something happened outside! Lao Hei and Fatty are in trouble! They were knocked down by a woman... a woman!" The skinny monkey's voice was filled with tears and extreme fear, and it sounded particularly harsh in the empty cave.
"That woman...that woman is inhuman! She's so vicious! She...she saw the box! She chased me into the woods! There must be police outside! Scar Brother! Military Advisor! Think of a solution quickly!"
"Waste!" The burly man known as "Scar Brother" kicked the skinny monkey in the stomach, knocking him to the ground along with the box in his arms, with a dull sound and the skinny monkey groaning in pain.
"A woman scared you like this? And she even killed two of my brothers? Did I feed you to eat shit?!"
"Brother Scar, calm down!" The "military advisor" in a suit spoke coldly, his voice hoarse like sandpaper rubbing against each other.
"Now's not the time to get angry. Skinny Monkey said that woman chased us and saw the box... This is going to be trouble."
His venomous gaze swept over the skinny monkey curled up on the ground and the silver-white box, then looked towards the direction of the cave entrance, his eyes flickering.
"Where's the falcon? He's on guard outside. Didn't he raise the alarm?"
"Eagle... Falcon was also killed by that woman..." The skinny monkey covered his stomach and grimaced in pain. He didn't finish his words, but the meaning was self-evident.
The military advisor's expression instantly turned extremely grim: "What? Even hawks and falcons..."
He obviously knew how powerful the crossbowman was.
"Fuck! I'm not afraid of you!" Scar Brother roared angrily, his eyes flashing with murderous intent. "A woman, how can she really turn the world upside down? If she dares to come in, I'll chop her into pieces and feed her to the fish!"
He swung the machete, and the blade reflected a heart-pounding cold light under the dim light.
"We can't keep these two around! They're just a burden! Get rid of them quickly and take the boxes back through the 'old road'!"
As he spoke, he held the machete in his hand and walked towards the two women who were tied with chains, terrified and struggling and whimpering desperately.
"No...no! Brother Scar! Spare me..." The skinny monkey looked at him in horror.
The military advisor's eyes were sinister, as if he was quickly weighing the pros and cons. In the end, he didn't stop Scar Brother's actions. Instead, he urged him, "Hurry up! Clean it up! Skinny Monkey, hold the box tightly! We'll immediately..."
Just as Scar Brother raised his machete, the two women closed their eyes in despair, the skinny monkey struggled to pick up the box, and the military advisor was about to turn around and lead the way -
"call out!"
A sharp sound, so sharp that it could tear the air apart, suddenly came from the darkness in the direction of the cave entrance, as fast as lightning.
An ice-cold crossbow arrow, like a death warrant from hell, pierced through the dim light with incredible precision, carrying Ning Xiwan's long-accumulated anger and cold murderous intent.
It pierced deeply into the muscles of Scar Brother's upper arm, which was holding the machete and raised high!
"Puchi!" The sound of the arrow entering the flesh was dull and clear!
"Ah——!" Scar Brother was caught off guard and let out a terrifying howl.
