The "home" he was talking about was their top-floor apartment in the city, a small harbor temporarily away from the center of the storm.
A few days later, the international airport.
In a corner of the VIP waiting room, the atmosphere is less sad about parting and more calm after the dust has settled and full of expectations for the future.
Ning Xiuyuan was wearing a well-tailored dark windbreaker and pulling a low-key business suitcase. He still had the same elite temperament, but the fatigue between his brows was replaced by a sharpness of starting anew.
He patted Duan Shuce's shoulder, his eyes steady: "Shuce, Wanwan is now in your care. Take good care of her."
The words are concise, but they carry a lot of weight.
Duan Shuce nodded solemnly: "Don't worry, big brother."
Ning Xiuyuan turned to Ning Xiwan, his eyes softened, filled with the concern of an older brother: "Once you get there, have a good rest and don't think about anything. I'll come to see you once I've finished dealing with things over there and settled down."
He reached out and gently ruffled his sister's hair again, his movements more natural than last time.
"Well, take care too, big brother." Ning Xiwan responded softly, with a faint but genuine smile on her face.
She was wearing a comfortable off-white cashmere sweater and trousers, her long hair was loosely tied up, and a soft light gray scarf was wrapped around her neck, covering her scars and adding a touch of soft warmth.
The days of rest and Duan Shuce's meticulous care have slightly melted the coldness between her brows. Although she is still tired, her eyes are no longer as empty and sharp as before, and there is a bit more calmness.
On the other hand, Ning Xiuyan's look is much more "wonderful".
He was wearing ripped jeans and a sweatshirt with a huge abstract graffiti printed on it, and he had a few shiny earrings on his ears. His whole body exuded the rebellious aura of "I want to break away from the past completely."
He was carrying a huge sketchpad bag on his back and holding a paint box in his hand. He was frantically trying to pull the headphone cable out from a pile of debris, and he had a boarding pass in his mouth that was about to fall.
"Hey! Ning Xiuyan! Your passport is about to fall off!" Hua Jinyue's crisp voice sounded, with undisguised disgust.
Today she was wearing a pink and white fluffy sweatshirt and a plaid skirt, with two ponytails, and she ran over like an exquisite doll.
She quickly grabbed Ning Xiuyan's passport, which was about to fall, and stuffed it into the big pocket of his sweatshirt, not forgetting to pat it hard.
"How stupid! You want to be an artist in Paris? Don't starve to death by the Seine!"
"What do you care, you little dwarf!" Ning Xiuyan glared at her angrily, and stuffed the earphones into his ears, trying to block out the noise, but his ears turned a little red.
After experiencing the great changes in the family and fighting side by side, his feelings towards Hua Jinyue have become much more complicated. It is no longer just pure disgust, but also a bit of brotherly love... uh, awkward friendship?
"Hmph!" Hua Jinyue made a face at him, turned around and pounced on Ning Xiwan, a sweet smile immediately appearing on her little face.
She clung to her like a little rice cake, hugging her arms, her voice soft and sticky: "Sister Ning, are you really going to go so far away to raise sheep? What if I miss you? Is the ice cream in New Zealand as delicious as here?"
Ning Xiwan's icy heart was warmed by the little girl's affection. She curled her lips for a rare moment and reached out to pinch her soft cheek. "If you miss me, call me or video chat. As for the ice cream... have your brother fly it over to you."
As she spoke, she looked at the young man standing quietly behind Hua Jinyue.
Ye Qingliu was still wearing a simple black sweatshirt and sweatpants, carrying an inconspicuous black backpack.
"Sister Wan." He walked forward, his voice clear and crisp, with the unique texture of a teenager, but with a calmness beyond his age.
He handed over the metal box in his hand, "Here, for you."
Ning Xiwan took it and felt it was slightly heavy in her hand, with the unique cool feeling of metal.
She looked at Ye Qingliu, questioning with her eyes.
"A specially made encrypted satellite communication terminal that I modified."
Ye Qingliu explained, his gray-blue eyes clear and transparent.
"The signal is very penetrating and can be connected even under the Antarctic ice sheet. The operation is very simple, and only a few of us know the frequency band and key."
He paused, his voice lowered a little, with a hint of barely perceptible dependence, "...Don't lose contact."
Ning Xiwan held the cold metal box, and a warm feeling surged in her heart.
She looked at the boy in front of her who she had raised as a younger brother, and saw the worry that could not be hidden deep in his eyes. She nodded solemnly: "Okay. We won't lose contact."
She raised her hand and patted his shoulder, "Take care of yourself and Jinyue. Study hard."
"Yeah." Ye Qingliu nodded vigorously, his gray-blue eyes lit up for a moment, like an icy lake briefly illuminated by sunlight.
Hua Jinyue immediately hugged her brother's arm and raised her chin proudly: "Don't worry, sister! I will make sure that brother eats and sleeps well! If he dares to stay up late typing code, I will unplug his network cable!"
Ye Qingliu glanced at his sister helplessly, without any rebuttal, but with an indulgent smile in his eyes.
The boarding announcement sounded, and it was time to say goodbye.
Ning Xiuyuan dragged his suitcase, took a last look at his sister and Duan Shuce, nodded to the Ye brothers and sisters, turned around and joined the boarding crowd for the flight to Europe, his back straight and determined, heading towards his own road of reconstruction.
Ning Xiuyan hurriedly grabbed the drawing board and paint box, waved to Ning Xiwan, made an "I don't want to bother with you" expression to Hua Jinyue, and then hurriedly ran towards his boarding gate as if afraid of being caught up by something.
The silver-purple hair was particularly conspicuous in the crowd, carrying an almost tragic determination to rush towards an unknown artistic career.
