"Open it and take a look." Ye Linyuan's voice was not loud, but it was like a cold snake's tongue licking the eardrum.
The edges of the paper bag were a bit sharp, with burrs that had not been polished off after industrial cutting.
Su Xinghui stretched out her fingertips, and the barely perceptible trembling became more obvious.
When opening the package, my nail was accidentally scratched by the sharp edge, and a thin white mark immediately appeared on my skin. It didn't bleed immediately, but I felt a burning stinging sensation.
She pinched her fingertips hard, trying to suppress the dizzying panic with the pain.
Inside the envelope was a thick stack of documents. The paper still had a faint residual warmth from the printer, and was warm to the touch, forming a strange contrast with the cold air around it.
In the upper right corner of the first page, a bright red "Confidential" seal is clearly visible. The red color is so thick and dazzling, like a drop of fresh, uncoagulated blood, carrying an absolute authority and unquestionable malice.
Su Xinghui struggled to focus her eyes on the densely packed text and tables.
Those black characters jumped and twisted before my eyes, like crawling ants.
His eyes moved mechanically among the cold data until a familiar combination of characters suddenly caught his eye - his father Su Mingyuan's signature!
She had seen that handwriting since she was a child, it was vigorous and powerful, but now it appeared at the end of this document stamped "Confidential" and exuding an ominous aura in a way she had never imagined.
She recognized the signature, and even more so the date marked next to it—that crucial moment three years ago.
"These..." His throat was dry and tight, and his voice sounded as if it had been rubbed by rough sandpaper, with a hoarseness that was unfamiliar to him.
"Impossible!" She suddenly raised her head, her eyes as sharp as torches, trying to penetrate the mist on the faces of the two people opposite her, looking for a flaw in their disguise.
However, there was only an unfathomable calmness in Mr. Chao's turbid eyes, and the faint smile at the corner of Ye Linyuan's mouth was full of mockery.
Mr. Chao finally put down the cup of tea that had already gone cold in his hand.
"Do you remember the investment that Su Group made in Southeast Asia three years ago?" His voice was not loud, but every word was like a hammer, hitting Su Xinghui's tense nerves.
Su Xinghui's pupils suddenly contracted! That project! How could she forget? That was the pinnacle of her father Su Mingyuan's career, a medal he was proud of.
The huge success of that year was overwhelming, the cover interview of the financial magazine is still vivid in my mind, as is my father’s high-spirited smile.
The photo shows an endless green rubber plantation... Countless nights, in the study, her father would look at the map of Southeast Asia on the wall and describe to her the vitality and potential of that land, with the light of a pioneer in his eyes.
It was the most dazzling pearl in the Su family's wealth, a medal that his father was proud of. But now, this pride was placed on the dirtiest chopping block.
"The surface is a rubber plantation," Ye Linyuan spoke seamlessly, his voice like an undercurrent beneath the ice, carrying a bone-chilling chill.
With an almost elegant cruelty, his slender fingers turned another page of the document, his nails making a slight sound as they scraped against the paper.
"It's actually a money laundering channel." His fingertips precisely pointed at a chart on the document that marked the complex flow of funds. Those cold arrows and numbers instantly turned into countless poisonous snakes spitting out their tongues, entwining Su Xinghui's heart.
"And last year," Ye Linyuan's voice was like a poisonous snake spitting out its tongue, cold and sticky. His fingers turned another page, and the paper made a slight rustling sound, which was particularly harsh in the silent room.
"That Xinghai import and export company under your mother's name... those freighters that frequently travel to and from the disputed area aren't just carrying 'legal' light industrial goods, right? Customs records, false bills of lading, phantom companies... the chain of evidence is complete, Ms. Su."
Every word was like a heavy hammer wrapped in ice, hitting Su Xinghui's chest hard.
She felt a suffocating pain, and her heart was beating wildly under her ribs, almost breaking her chest.
She took a deep breath, and the cold air rushed into her lungs, but it did nothing to calm the panic that was spreading like wildfire.
"It's easy to make these disappear." Chao suddenly leaned forward, breaking the icy balance that had been maintained.
His cloudy but bright eyes were like two bottomless ancient wells, which attracted her attention.
"Tomorrow night, at the Poseidon cruise ship banquet, Ye Qingliu will disappear."
He spoke each word with such clarity that his voice was so low that it seemed to come from underground.
"Ye Qingliu?" The name shot into her mind like a red-hot bullet. Su Xinghui's head shot up, the movement so violent that it practically stirred a gust of wind, and her neck made a slight crackling sound.
She ran straight into Mr. Chao's eyes, which were calm but full of calculation, and felt as if she had fallen into an ice cave, and the blood in her body froze instantly.
"Impossible!" A sharp voice burst out, with a crack that she herself had not expected, and it sounded particularly shrill in the empty room.
"This is murder!" Her nails dug deep into her palms, causing a sharp sting. Only this real pain could confirm that this was not a nightmare.
"Murder?" Ye Linyuan suddenly burst into laughter as if he had heard the most ridiculous joke in the world.
"Hahaha... Miss Su, do you think we are discussing whether to have scones or macarons with afternoon tea?" His laughter stopped abruptly, as if cut off by a sharp blade.
The expression on his face suddenly turned gloomy, like the sky before a rainstorm. His eyes were so sinister that water seemed to drip out of them, and the remaining smile at the corner of his mouth was frozen into the sharpest ice edge.
