Chapter 365 The Pain Behind the Window

On a quiet afternoon, the sun shone through the thin clouds sparingly, casting a few pale and weak rays of light on the cold ward.

Sun Guixiang leaned against the rocking hospital bed, her legs covered with a soft blanket. Her skinny fingers were carefully turning the pages of a brand new picture book—the one that Xiao Shitou had brought to her yesterday to entertain her.

A familiar dull itch came from deep in her chest. She suppressed her cough and coughed a few times, but fortunately there was no blood.

The wall-mounted TV next to the bed was on, with the volume turned down low. Sun Guixiang never cared about these things.

She turned a page and her eyes fell on the cute little bear.

At this moment, the clear and steady voice of the female anchor on TV pierced the silence of the ward like an ice pick:

"...the explosion on the luxury cruise ship 'Estrella' the previous evening... sixty-nine people died...many celebrities and rising business leaders were seriously injured..."

"Zvestia"? "Explosion"? "Celebrity"?

Sun Guixiang paused in turning the pages of the book, and her cloudy eyes unconsciously glanced at the TV screen.

A chaotic and blurry picture: the huge cruise ship was tilted on its side on the dark sea, with flames shooting into the sky and thick smoke billowing.

In the corner of the screen, on a stretcher, a pale face flashed by. A tall, blood-stained nose! Tightly pursed lips! And... the blurry reflection of those thin, silver-rimmed glasses that stubbornly sat on that nose!

"Little...little boy...?!" A hoarse and broken cry filled with unbelievable horror and great fear suddenly squeezed out from Sun Guixiang's cracked lips.

The picture book fell onto the quilt with a "bang", and my heart felt like it was being gripped by an icy hand.

Her vision went dark, leaving only the pale, tightly-closed face in the firelight, which overlapped and torn apart madly with the cold and calm appearance of the young man in her memory, who was eating mung bean cake with his head down.

It's him! It's that kid! He's lying on a stretcher! Covered in blood!

"No... Impossible..." Sun Guixiang trembled violently, her withered hands clutching the hospital gown on her chest! A huge fear came over her!

She threw back the blanket and struggled out of bed like a madman.

"Auntie Sun! What are you doing?" Nurse Xiao Li rushed over and held her down, "You can't move!"

"Let me go!!" Sun Guixiang burst out with amazing strength, her eyes bloodshot, staring at the screen, her voice hoarse and shrill.

"It's him! Little boy! He's hurt! Let me go! I want to find him!" She pushed Xiao Li desperately, her body shaking!

"Auntie Sun! Calm down! You've seen it wrong!" Xiao Li hugged her tightly and shouted.

"I wasn't mistaken! It's him! It's him!" Sun Guixiang screamed in despair, tears streaming down her face. "He's bleeding so much... I'm going to find him!"

The struggle caused her severe pain. She suddenly arched her body, coughing heart-wrenchingly, and dark red blood oozed out from between her fingers.

"Doctor! Call a doctor!"

————————(time dividing line)

Sacred Heart International Hospital, top floor VIP intensive care unit.

The pungent smell of cold disinfectant was strong. In the vast, empty corridor, the polished marble reflected the pale ceiling light, and the metallic silver-gray walls separated life from death.

Sun Guixiang sat in a worn-out shared wheelchair, her back hunched, wearing a washed-out hospital gown and a thin cotton jacket, her gray hair disheveled and stuck to her sweaty forehead.

She held the frayed cloth bag tightly in her arms, her withered hands gripping the wheelchair armrests tightly, her knuckles turning white, and her cloudy eyes staring at the closed heavy metal door at the end of the corridor with the red letters "ICU" printed on it.

Xiao Li was pushing the wheelchair with great effort from behind, his forehead covered in sweat.

As soon as we entered this area, several bodyguards in black clothes and black pants, wearing headsets and with stern expressions blocked our way like iron towers.

The tall bodyguard in the lead had eyes as sharp as an eagle and a cold, mechanical voice:

"Stop! No unauthorized personnel are allowed to enter!"

His scrutinizing gaze swept over the haggard and shabby-dressed Sun Guixiang, revealing his undisguised contempt.

"We...are here to see the nightclub!" Xiao Li's voice trembled.

"This is an elder that Mr. Ye knows! She's very worried!"

"Elder?" The bodyguard sneered, his contempt even stronger. "Boss Ye's elder? You must be joking! Get out of here immediately!"

The bodyguard spoke in a firm tone, took a step forward, and pushed the wheelchair roughly.

She clutched the handrail tightly, her eyes bloodshot.

"I... I have this!" Sun Guixiang grabbed at a straw, pulling the pure white card from her tattered pocket. The card, emblazoned with the Silver Nightingale logo, was held high in her withered hand like a fragile shield.

She shouted hoarsely, "It's a little boy... Young Master Ye gave it to me! He knows me! Let me go in and see him!"

The bodyguard glanced at the card, his eyes flashing slightly, and recognized that this was the highest token of the Ye Foundation.

But the fluctuation was fleeting and turned into an even colder rejection: "It's useless to have a card! The ICU is a restricted area and no one other than immediate family members is allowed to enter! Rules! Leave immediately!" He reached out again and pushed the wheelchair even more roughly!

"No! I won't leave!" Sun Guixiang screamed shrilly! Despair and heartache made her like a mother animal protecting her cubs. Her withered hands slammed into the bodyguard's expensively dressed arm! Her nails dug deep into the fabric! Turbid tears welled up in her eyes.

"Let me see him! Please! Just one look! He is my family's benefactor! He saved my life! Saved my grandson's life! I can't... I can't let him lie there alone..."

Her cries were hoarse and broken, and her grief and pleas were heartbreaking.

"Let go, old man!"

The bodyguard's arm was grabbed, and he suddenly became angry and swung it hard.

"Ah!" Sun Guixiang was already weak, and was thrown away by the huge force. She and her wheelchair suddenly fell sideways and hit the wall! A sharp friction sound was heard!
