Chapter 368 Silent Watch

Her footsteps paused almost imperceptibly for a fraction of a second, her tender pink lips seemed to purse slightly, and in her burning big eyes, deep within the cold flames, something extremely subtle seemed to flicker, so fast that it was impossible to capture.

Then, she acted as if she hadn't seen it, her skirt drawing a cold arc, and she walked away.

Sun Guixiang was completely unaware of this. Her entire mind was focused on the glass window.

Time passes day by day in silent watch.

Until late at night on the fifth day.

The lights in the hospital corridors were turned to the dimmest mode, leaving only the necessary illumination.

Outside the huge visitor window, only Sun Guixiang remained stubbornly seated on the cold metal bench. Xiao Li leaned back in a nearby chair, dozing off wearily.

Sun Guixiang's spirit was extremely depressed. The long period of sitting and the torture of illness had almost exhausted all her physical strength.

Her eyelids felt heavy as if filled with lead, and her vision began to blur.

She unconsciously clutched the piece of blue printed cloth in her arms tightly, her fingertips feeling cold.

Inside the glass window, various instruments still made regular and monotonous "ticking" sounds.

Ye Qingliu lay quietly on the hospital bed, his face still pale, the oxygen mask covering most of his face. Everything was no different from the past few days.

However, just when Sun Guixiang's consciousness was about to slip into the edge of chaos——

Her cloudy eyes, almost closed, suddenly caught a glimpse of an extremely subtle change.

Inside the glass window, Ye Qingliu's hand, which was placed outside the sterile sheet and connected to the infusion tube, moved almost imperceptibly and extremely slightly.

The tip of the index finger seemed to curl up very slightly.

Like a spark that suddenly lights up in the darkness.

Sun Guixiang's heart seemed to be grasped by an invisible hand and stopped beating instantly.

All the fatigue and drowsiness were instantly dispelled by the huge shock.

She suddenly sat up straight, her skinny body trembling violently with excitement, her cloudy eyes fixed on Ye Qingliu's hand without blinking.

Did she see it wrong?

Is it an illusion of flickering lights?

No! It's not an illusion!

As she watched with her breath held and her heart nearly jumping out of her throat—

The tip of Ye Qingliu's pale hand's index finger curled up again very slightly, yet very clearly.

Then, his long eyelashes, as thick as crow feathers, trembled very slightly under his eyelids, like the wings of a butterfly startled by the breeze.

Sun Guixiang suddenly covered her mouth, blocking the scream that was about to burst through her throat.

Her cloudy eyes instantly widened to the limit, bursting with an incredible ecstasy, and tears flowed like a flood, violently and silently washing over her deeply wrinkled cheeks.

Move!

The child moved!

He's awake?! He's waking up?!

Great joy and an almost suffocating tension instantly gripped her.

She stared intently at the glass window, her skinny fingers digging deeply into the cold chair back due to the force, and her body leaned forward, almost falling on the glass.

As if responding to her silent, almost burning expectation—

On the hospital bed, Ye Qingliu's tightly closed eyelashes trembled violently again.

Then, extremely slowly, with a heavy feeling as if weighing a thousand pounds, it was opened bit by bit.

Gray-blue eyes appeared under the pale light.

The eyes were initially scattered and blank, like a glacier shrouded in thick fog all year round, struggling to find focus in the chaos.

His pupils were slightly dilated, reflecting the dazzling light from the ceiling, filled with the ignorance and great confusion of just waking up.

His eyes wandered blankly between the cold instruments, the white ceiling, and the glaring lights, as if he couldn't understand where he was.

Just then—

His blurred, gray-blue eyes, filled with heavy moisture, moved very slowly, bit by bit, as if being pulled by some invisible force.

Finally, it passed the cold instrument tubes, passed the dazzling lights, and landed on the huge, one-way visitor glass window.

Separated by thick, cold glass, separated by the boundary between life and death, separated by a silent distance.

His gaze, like a dusty lens being polished bit by bit, focused with difficulty and bit by bit.

Finally, it stopped outside the glass window——

The man had almost his entire face pressed against the glass, his back hunched, and was wearing an old dark gray cotton jacket that had been washed so much that it looked pale.

The withered old man's face had messy white hair and cloudy eyes filled with huge, indescribable ecstasy, tension, expectation and surging tears.

Time seems to be infinitely stretched at this moment.

Inside and outside the cold glass, two pairs of eyes suddenly met across the distance of life and death.

Deep in Ye Qingliu's gray-blue eyes, there was a thick fog of confusion and bewilderment, as if a huge stone had been thrown into them, instantly causing violent waves.

Stunned, surprised, unbelievable... all kinds of complicated emotions flashed and collided quickly in those rare eyes like broken ice crystals.

He seemed to recognize the face.

This face, weathered and full of suffering, now shines with great light because of his extremely small movement.

Sun Guixiang! That… that old woman who had been offered a hot drink on a cold night, who had ruffled his hair excitedly in the foundation office, who had stubbornly fed him mung bean cakes in the ward, and who had even… had the audacity to pinch his cheek when he was half asleep…!
