Chapter 371: Calming People's Hearts

She had never seen such a person around Ye Qingliu. Ye Qingliu was always distant and indifferent to others.

But this old woman... not only did she appear here, Qingliu also seemed to... accept what she brought?

In fact, when she came in just now, she seemed to see... the old man was very close to Qingliu's bed?

Bai Zhiye's gentle eyebrows still contained a smile, but in those autumn-water eyes, a little bit of imperceptible darkness settled.

Her slender fingers unconsciously twisted the soft corner of the knitted cardigan, and her knuckles exerted a little force.

She looked at Ye Qingliu, at his pale and handsome profile, at the quiet gray-blue behind his glasses, and the question in her heart became clearer and clearer: Who is she?

She wanted to ask directly, but her upbringing and personality prevented her from rashly asking a strange old man in such a situation, especially when Jin Yue was clearly hostile to him.

She could only suppress this doubt and that slight bitterness deep in the softest corner of her heart.

The atmosphere in the ward became a little subtle.

Hua Jinyue sat on the edge of the bed, glaring at her brother angrily, and occasionally glaring at Sun Guixiang in the corner, with a look of "I'm unhappy, come and comfort me" written all over her little face.

Bai Zhiye stood on the other side of the bed, smiling gently, but her eyes drifted towards Sun Guixiang and the old lunch box from time to time, and her fingertips gently twisted the corner of her clothes.

Ye Qingliu leaned quietly against the head of the bed, his gray-blue eyes half-closed, his long eyelashes hiding most of his emotions, as if he was unaware of the undercurrents surging around him.

Only the withered figure in the corner was still immersed in great shame and fear, trying hard to reduce his presence.

The sunlight shines through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, still bright, but it seems unable to completely dispel the invisible tension in this space.

At this moment, Ye Qingliu, who had been keeping his eyes lowered, raised his gray-blue eyes slightly, and his gaze calmly swept across Hua Jinyue's angry face, and then turned very naturally to Bai Zhiye's gentle eyes with a hint of deep meaning.

His voice was not loud, but still clear, like a stone dropped into a lake, breaking the delicate silence:

"Naiko." He called her name, his tone filled with that unique gentleness and patience that he only showed to her.

Bai Zhiye immediately looked at him, the darkness in her eyes instantly replaced by a focused tenderness: "Hmm? What's wrong, Qingliu? Are you feeling unwell?"

She leaned forward slightly, her tone full of genuine concern.

Ye Qingliu did not answer directly. His eyes fell on the bunch of fresh white lisianthus on the bedside table, and a glimmer seemed to flash in his gray-blue eyes.

He raised his chin ever so slightly, indicating the bouquet of flowers.

"Flowers," his voice was weak, like someone recovering from a serious illness, but the words were clear. "It suits you very well."

These three simple words, like a magic key, instantly untied the vines that were entangled around Bai Zhiye's heart.

A warm current mixed with sweetness suddenly surged into her heart, washing away the slight sourness in her heart.

He noticed! He noticed the flowers she'd chosen! And he said... they suited her perfectly?

Two very faint blushes instantly appeared on Bai Zhiye's fair cheeks, like the petals of a newly blooming peach.

She loosened her fingers that were twisting the corner of her clothes and folded them in front of her helplessly. Ripples of surprise and shyness appeared in her autumn-water eyes, sparkling.

She looked at him, her voice a little softer than before, with a hint of imperceptible sweetness: "As long as you like it... I chose it specially, thinking of putting it in your room, it will look fresher..."

Her subsequent words were somewhat incoherent. She was completely immersed in the great joy brought by the recognition from her lover. Even the annoying old woman in the corner seemed less irritating to her.

As long as Qingliu has her in his heart, what does anyone else matter?

Hua Jinyue saw it clearly from the side and was so angry that he almost jumped up from the stool.

Brother! He actually praised Bai Zhiye's flowers?! He even said they "suit her perfectly"? So jealous! So corny! He's never praised her like that! He didn't even give her a second glance at her new dress today!

"Brother!" Hua Jinyue couldn't hold it in any longer, her voice filled with tears and accusations, "My new dress! I just bought it! It's a limited edition! And you didn't even look at it!"

She pointed at her intricate and gorgeous dark blue Lolita dress, her pretty face full of grievance and accusation.

Ye Qingliu finally turned his gaze towards her. The gentleness he had shown towards Bai Zhiye faded slightly from his grey-blue eyes behind his lenses, returning to a deep calm.

He looked at the layers of lace and ribbons on his sister's body, as if examining them closely.

Hua Jinyue felt a little nervous and expectant when he looked at her, and she straightened her back subconsciously.

After a few seconds, Ye Qingliu slowly spoke, his voice flat and straightforward, without any emotion: "Yeah. The skirt..." He paused, as if searching for the right word, "It has many layers."

Hua Jinyue: "..."

A lot of layers?!

Where were the compliments she was expecting?! Where were the "very beautiful," "suits you perfectly," "like a little princess"?! Just "lots of layers"?!

Hua Jinyue's pretty little face fell in an instant, and the tears that had just subsided in her big eyes began to surge again.

She felt like she was going to explode! Her brother was biased! She had even helped him teach Su Xinghui a lesson! But he was so gentle to Bai Zhiye, yet he was so perfunctory with her!

Ye Qingliu seemed not to notice his sister's expression on the verge of exploding, and his gaze turned very naturally to the hunched figure in the corner that was almost curled up into a ball.

Sun Guixiang stood there stiffly.

From Hua Jinyue's shrill scolding, to Bai Zhiye's gentle appearance, to the subtle interactions between the brother and sister and the lovers...it all seemed like a gorgeous drama that she could not understand at all, let alone fit in.
