Chapter 4 Her Birthday

After hesitating for a moment, she lifted a corner of the quilt and slid into the bed carefully like a frightened little animal until her whole body was wrapped in warmth.

Ye Qingliu was awakened by the tickling sensation on his neck. He reached out his hand drowsily and felt a mass of soft hair.

When I opened my eyes, I met Hua Jinyue's wet eyes. There was moisture on the girl's eyelashes, like the morning dew bending the petals of a Phalaenopsis orchid.

"Jinyue?" His voice was hoarse from waking up, with a slight upward curve at the end. "What's wrong?"

Hua Jinyue's nose brushed against his collarbone, and her sobbing voice muffled in his chest: "Brother, the house is haunted..."

Ye Qingliu raised an eyebrow, only then noticing that his sister was only wearing a thin nightgown, her shoulders trembling slightly in the night breeze. He sighed softly and reached out to close the open window. The bulletproof glass blocked out the sound of the rain, and the room suddenly became quiet.

"Watching horror movies again?" He reached out and ruffled her hair, his fingertips touching the lavender scent in her hair - the scent of the hair care oil she often used.

"No!" Hua Jinyue raised her head, her nose almost touching his chin. "I heard a woman crying, and a doll...the doll's eyes moved!"

Ye Qingliu's gaze swept over the rabbit doll on the bedside table. It was staring at them with its head tilted, its black pearl eyes glowing faintly under the light.

He reached out and pinched the doll's ears. They felt soft, and the stitching on the joints was neat and firm. "You scared yourself. The joints of this doll are fixed."

Hua Jinyue pursed her lips in dissatisfaction, then suddenly remembered something and reached out to grab his wrist.

Ye Qingliu's skin felt cold, and the silver watch on her wrist rubbed against her palm. The laurel crest on the dial was deeply engraved, and the edges were a little abrasive. "Where was that sound? I clearly heard it!"

Ye Qingliu looked at her angry face and suddenly remembered how she cried when she lost her teddy bear as a child. The same look, the same tone.

He couldn't help but chuckle and scratched her nose with his fingertips. "It might be the sound of the water pipes. Lao Yang said he was fixing the pipes recently."

"real……?"

"Of course, go to bed early. It's getting late."

"Okay, brother."

She kissed Ye Qingliu on the face.
