Chapter 88 Train and Sea

Feng Qingyao gently stepped onto the slowly moving train. The carriage was filled with a faint nostalgic atmosphere, which contrasted beautifully with the yellowed ticket tightly held in her hand.

She deliberately chose a seat by the window, as if to have a private conversation with the upcoming scenery.

As the train gradually accelerated, the scenery outside the window began to flow, but what attracted her most was always the vast ocean.

Under the sunlight, the sea water presents different shades of blue, gradually changing from light blue to deep blue, like a huge gem inlaid between heaven and earth. The sunlight shines through the clouds and sprinkles on the sea, making the waves sparkle.

Her long hair was gently blown by the sea breeze that occasionally filtered through the car window, bringing a hint of saltiness and freedom. She tilted her head slightly, bringing her face closer to the window, her clear eyes filled with the beautiful sight of the sea and sky merging into one.

During this journey, Feng Qingyao's mood also fluctuated with the changes in the seascape. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

She had actually wanted to see the sea for a long time, but she just never found the time. Now 22 years old and with a stable job, she just felt like something was missing most of the time.

She seemed to be losing her sixteen or seventeen-year-old self...

[Memories loading…………………………]

The hearts of sixteen or seventeen-year-old girls were filled with all their expectations of the world. They did crazy and bold things at an age that was too naive. The past is always given meaning in memories.

That year, it was the summer vacation of her second year in high school.

Midsummer nights are always accompanied by rain. Feng Qingyao sat in the cram school and looked out the window. The street was empty.

Then he turned his head and closed his eyes to take a nap.

The workload in my second year of high school is heavy. Every day, I have to do endless math problems, memorize endless words, and copy endless essays. School homework is already stressful enough, but now I have to do not only school homework but also cram school homework.

"Report, teacher."

A clear young boy's voice sounded in her ears, and Feng Qingyao raised her head.

The boy before me seemed someone I had never seen before. The rain soaked his hair, adding a sense of fragmentation to his fair face. His white shirt, dampened by a few drops of rain, revealed the faint outlines of his muscles.

The young man chose a seat and sat down, which happened to be next to Feng Qingyao. Feng Qingyao glanced at him and continued to listen to the class seriously.

After the cram school ended, the rain continued to fall. Feng Qingyao was about to put on her hat and rush out the door without an umbrella when a voice called her.

"It's raining outside."

The young man said this to Feng Qingyao.

Then he opened an umbrella. Feng Qingyao seemed to understand what he meant. After hesitating for a while, she whispered "thank you" and got into the umbrella.

"Where is your home?"

Feng Qingyao hesitated for a while before telling him her home address.

They were very quiet along the way, and no one spoke a word.

When Feng Qingyao arrived at the door of her house, he left.

Looking at his departing back, she mustered up the courage to ask his name but couldn't open her mouth.

Maybe next time, if we have the chance to meet again.

The next day when I went to school...

I was sitting by the window reading a book when I saw a familiar figure passing by the window. Wait, isn’t this the boy who sent me home yesterday?

I was a little surprised to see him at school, but why haven't I seen him before?

She didn't think too much about it at the time, because even if she thought too much, she wouldn't be able to come up with an answer.

Maybe she doesn't pay much attention to the people and things on campus, and she doesn't have any particularly good friends around her. When she is tired of studying, she just lies quietly on the table and sleeps.

The second encounter was in the library.

The sunlight slanted into the library, casting a golden glow on the bookshelves.

In the vast sea of books, a book with a slightly old cover but exuding a mysterious atmosphere lies there quietly, as if waiting for the arrival of a destined person.

Feng Qingyao was strolling among the history bookshelves when her eyes inadvertently swept across the unique book, and an indescribable attraction surged in her heart.

Almost at the same time, a slender hand reached out to the book containing an unknown story.

When their fingertips lightly touched the spine of the book, it was as if an electric current flowed through the air. The moment Feng Qingyao looked up, her eyes met his at that moment.

There was a flash of surprise in both of their eyes, followed by a polite smile.

"It seems we all like this book very much."

Feng Qingyao mustered up the courage to break the silence first, her voice soft and pleasant.

"Yeah, I didn't expect to meet someone here who is also interested in it."

They smiled at each other, and the awkward atmosphere instantly dissipated. When she recalled it, she only felt that she was so bold at that time. Perhaps it was because she could do whatever she wanted in her youth.

Feng Qingyao suggested: "How about we read it together? Maybe we can exchange our thoughts after reading it."

The boy agreed, and the two of them found a seat by the window.

"May I have your name?"

"Prefer red sandalwood".

“It’s a nice name.”

It was just three simple words, but she memorized them many times in the days and months that followed.

"My name is Feng Qingyao."

"Let's watch it together."

The sunlight shines through the gaps in the leaves, onto the pages of their books, and also onto the two hearts that are brought closer because of books.

They took turns reading, sometimes looking down in thought, sometimes looking up to share their thoughts, as if the whole world had stopped.
