Chapter 139 Ramblings (Part 1)
The construction of Jiguang Island took two years.
Pei Wu is busy with work and has a lot to do, so she feels that time flies by.
Lu Xi was waiting anxiously.
A few days ago, I treated Mr. Zhang to dinner, and it turned out that the few remaining hairs around his head had completely fallen out.
Pei Wudu felt so sorry for Zhang that he kept pouring him tea.
Mr. Zhang, having drunk his fill, waved to Pei Wu and sighed, saying, "It has nothing to do with Mr. Lu. The development of Jiguang Island is a highlight of my life. When I'm old, just thinking about this pure land above Honghai will bring me peace of mind. Oh, by the way, Assistant Pei, did you know that Mr. Lu encouraged me to participate in next year's global design competition?"
Pei Wu: "...Hmm."
Mr. Zhang's eyes were dark and swollen, but he was in good spirits: "So this is what it feels like to have your soul young again. Mr. Lu is indeed a top-tier Alpha. Even if he doesn't work in the business world anymore, he can still be a spiritual mentor."
Even with Pei Wu's biased view of Lu Xiwen, which was like a filter of eight thousand meters, she still found these words utterly absurd.
Lu Xiwen may not say he misleads people, but he can certainly destroy their moral compass.
At his rate of nitpicking more than ten times a minute, he would soon attack the students' qualifications and abilities.
As Lu Xiwen walked past him, his patience with General Manager Zhang was unprecedented. After the completion of the row of connected wooden houses, sky villas, waterfront restaurants, and stargazing pavilions, he felt that General Manager Zhang was simply a talent among talents, still sharp as ever, invincible in his chopping and slashing.
Then he laughed and said, "How can I not be involved in the business world? I have to make money. Assistant Pei may seem easygoing, but he's actually quite picky."
Pei Wu thought to herself, "Are you sure you're not talking about yourself?"
Lu Xiwen and General Manager Zhang exchanged friendly glances and became confidants in each other's eyes.
Pei Wu couldn't get a word in edgewise.
In the afternoon, Guan Yan called to take him to meet someone, and Pei Wu gladly went.
"Lu Xiwen has started preparing for the wedding?" Guan Yan asked gleefully as soon as they met.
For no other reason than that Lu Xiwen is a bit "eccentric" when he focuses on what he loves, and the life or death of others is not within his scope of consideration. Only Pei Wu can tolerate it.
Pei Wu pressed her temples, tacitly agreeing.
The two of them sat in the private room, waiting for a spice expert to arrive.
According to Guan Yan, the other party has been in this industry for more than ten years and has a great reputation. Not only does he have a unique investment vision, but he also has very advanced planting techniques. He applied for several national patents in the past two years and recently plans to expand a planting base of 1,000 mu in Haiyan District of Hongdu. He just happens to be short of big bosses to invest.
After hearing the news, Guan Yan carefully evaluated it and thought it was feasible, so he called Pei Wu along.
The finished products grown by the other party are intended to be sold to several high-end perfume companies. Guan Yan is also quite interested in the latter and plans to test the waters first.
When Mr. Qian came in, Pei Wu had already finished reviewing all the investment details.
Mr. Qian was accompanied by two people, who were said to be his partners. One was surnamed Zhao and the other was surnamed Sun, both of whom held the position of manager.
Manager Zhao didn't say much. After exchanging greetings with Guan Yan and the others, he sat down next to General Manager Qian.
Manager Sun, on the other hand, kept talking, his tone filled with an undisguised sense of superiority.
Actually, Guan Yan didn't need to handle this kind of business at all. He was just worried about Pei Wu, and he had been putting Chu Lin in the company for training recently, so he suddenly had some free time.
Mr. Qian showed great respect to his benefactor.
Halfway through the meal, Manager Sun got bored and started clamoring for alcohol.
Guan Yan glanced at the urine indifferently, too lazy to look at it any longer.
There are plenty of people like this who can't tell their own worth once they sit down at the dinner table. The difference is that Guan Yan didn't reveal his hand; he came as a partner.
No one paid any attention to the man surnamed Sun. Judging from Mr. Qian's expression, he seemed to regret bringing along a burden.
Manager Sun kept urging Pei Wu and Guan Yan to drink.
Pei Wu could at least say "alcohol allergy" to get by, but Guan Yan didn't waste a single word.
The man surnamed Sun soon lowered his expression and sat there gloomily.
Mr. Qian had no time to spare for him. The investment amounts from Guan Yan and Pei Wu were incredibly exciting. If they could really reach an agreement, he wouldn't need to beg anyone else.
The process went relatively smoothly. When it came time to sign the contract, Mr. Sun wanted to say something, but Mr. Qian made a gesture, and Manager Zhao hurriedly pulled him away under the pretext of going to the restroom.
"Please excuse my poor behavior, both of you." Mr. Qian signed the contract quickly, making it legally binding even though it was only a temporary one. "He's been with me for many years. He wasn't like this before; he was always the one who did the hard work. Later, when I became successful, I couldn't abandon my brother. But I don't know when he developed an alcoholic habit, and then..."
Mr. Qian was too embarrassed to continue.
Pei Wu didn't care about that and politely replied, "I understand, thank you for your hard work."
Mr. Qian capped the pen, resolving a major concern.
After the meal, the man surnamed Sun also finished his wine.
He really is a drunkard; he drank the whole bottle of 37-proof liquor.
Mr. Qian paid the bill, and Guan Yan didn't stand on ceremony with him; he considered it compensation for the mental distress caused by seeing that awful-looking guy surnamed Sun.
Since autumn began, Hongdu has been damp and cold. It's only 3 pm and the chill is already unbearable.
"This winter is sure to be especially cold," Guan Yan said, standing on the steps.
Pei Wu hummed in agreement.
They went back in Guan Yan's car; the driver was still in the garage.
Mr. Qian left first, and the two of them chatted about other things related to the new investment.
Just then, a car stopped at the bottom of the steps. The window rolled down, and as soon as Guan Yan saw the face of the man surnamed Sun, he immediately looked away in disgust.
Pei Wu's expression was indifferent.
"I'll take you," the man shouted at the top of his lungs, but the wind blowing in his face made his mind even more muddled.
"No need, our car will be here soon, thank you," Pei Wu replied.
Unexpectedly, the man surnamed Sun suddenly opened the car door and got out.
Guan Yan didn't intend to be polite, just as Chu Lin's call came in.
"Hello? Are you done talking?" Chu Lin's voice rang out with a smile.
"We've finished talking."
Chu Lin sensed something was wrong: "What's wrong?"
Guan Yan didn't hide anything, "I ran into a drunkard, so annoying... Hmm? Get lost!"
No one expected that the man surnamed Sun would suddenly speed up the steps, grab Pei Wu's wrist, and reek of alcohol: "Hehe, what are you being so polite about? I'll see you off."
Pei Wu grabbed Sun's throat with his other hand, and the man felt a sudden tightness in his chest and instinctively let go. Immediately afterward, Guan Yan kicked him.
Before falling, the man surnamed Sun swore. Pei Wu managed to shake him off with force, but perhaps because it had rained half an hour earlier, the steps were slippery. Pei Wu lost her balance and immediately sat down. Even though Guan Yan came to help her in time, her wrist felt a sharp pain for a moment due to the angle at which she landed.
Guan Yan pulled Pei Wu to her feet, then rushed down the steps without saying a word, grabbed the man surnamed Sun by the collar, and punched him.
"Going on a drunken rampage, huh?" Guan Yan said coldly, "You think you can't be touched just because your dad's an Omega?"
Guan Yan didn't have time to hang up the phone, unaware that Chu Lin had heard most of the commotion and was on his way with firecrackers popping and crackling.
