Chapter 30 So Close
The car drove out of the garage, and outside the ground was covered in frost, but it looked crystal clear because it was snowing under the sun.
Pei Wu rested her chin on her hand and looked out the window. The restlessness in her eyes subsided as the light shone through.
"What's going on with those two?" Lu Xiwen asked.
He didn't press her for answers at all; he was just casually chatting with Pei Wu about something insignificant, which greatly eased Pei Wu's initial embarrassment.
The other party was Lu Xiwen. He had the most accurate set of self-judgments and would not be fooled by anyone's sweet words or pheromones.
Pei Wu slowly exhaled.
Pei Wu was very busy during her university years, but according to the college's regulations, she had to participate in at least one club activity. After careful selection, Pei Wu finally decided on the Stargazing Club, which had few members. She only needed to write an observation report once a week, which was easy for Pei Wu and saved her time.
Everything went smoothly at first, until one day, Pei Wu heard snickering coming from outside the door after finishing his observation. An ominous premonition arose in his heart. He got up and went over, and sure enough, the door was locked. Pei Wu was quite helpless about this prank. To make matters worse, his phone was out of battery and he didn't have a charger with him.
Just as Pei Wu was trying to figure out a solution, Su Chen came out of a room rubbing his eyes. At the time, he was the main player of the school basketball team and a high-level Alpha who had already been announced. His physical attributes were indeed excellent, and even someone like Pei Wu, who was focused on her studies, had heard of him.
"Locked?" Su Chen shook the door lock, frowning deeply.
Pei Wu breathed a sigh of relief: "You can call security."
"I didn't bring my phone," Su Chen said innocently.
Pei Wu: "..."
As midnight approached, Su Chen finally opened the window, carefully observed the landing point, and told Pei Wu that although it was the fifth floor, she could go down.
Upon hearing this, Lu Xi asked, "He carried you downstairs?"
Pei Wu almost lost his composure, the question "What were you thinking?" stuck in his throat. "No... I jumped down myself, President Lu. Although I am a Beta, first and foremost, I am a man."
The implication is that physical fitness is not a problem.
"Mmm." Lu Xiwen turned the steering wheel: "Go on."
That's how Pei Wu met Su Chen. Pei Wu thought it was a brief chance encounter, but Su Chen didn't seem to think so. He would greet Pei Wu when they met at school. Later, he somehow got Pei Wu's phone number and started asking her out to dinner. Pei Wu refused once or twice, but after the third or fourth time, she began to understand Su Chen's intentions.
Who doesn't know that Su Chen has an Omega boyfriend? He's the most handsome guy in the art academy, and Su Chen has fought with many Alphas for him, causing quite a stir. Some people are very envious.
Pei Wu didn't know what she envied, but she understood and respected it.
Even if Su Chen didn't have a boyfriend, Pei Wu wouldn't pay any attention to him.
Lu Xiwen's tone was strangely calm, "Logically speaking, his Alpha type is quite attractive."
“For example?” Pei Wu asked.
"Face?"
Pei Wu paused for a moment, then said, "I think that with your qualifications, Mr. Lu, you shouldn't say something so inappropriate."
Lu Xiwen let out a deep "hmm".
Pei Wu: "Once I was passing by the back of the basketball court, and Su Chen and his group of cronies were leaning against the net with their backs to me, commenting on an Omega girl named Kang Bo who had just brought them water, calling him a lackey." Pei Wu patiently explained, not bothering to hide anything from Lu Xiwen, "They said that the Omega girl's butt was too small, making it unpleasant to have sex with her. Su Chen smiled and replied, 'Definitely.'"
Pei Wu suddenly felt that the air smelled foul.
Lu Xiwen said, "You have quite a sharp tongue."
Pei Wu expressed his strong agreement.
During the three months that Ruan Hanyan was an exchange student, Su Chen frequently bothered Pei Wu. By the time Ruan Hanyan returned, the rumors had become absurd. Ruan Hanyan met with Pei Wu alone, and then clung to her like a madwoman.
“I can’t shake him off.” Pei Wu pressed her forehead. “I don’t know when this kind of chase-and-pick romance drama will end.”
Pei Wu was unwilling to play along, but still ended up getting into trouble.
He didn't go into the specific details, but Lu Xiwen could imagine it.
"No wonder Assistant Pei is so resilient under pressure," Lu Xiwen said half-jokingly.
“President Lu.” Pei Wu’s voice was drawn out, very soft and slow, with a hint of helplessness.
Pei Wu looked closely and realized that the car had driven to Yunlu Bay.
Yes, Lu Xiwen didn't eat much at the table.
"Stir-fried shrimp, braised mutton, with spinach and egg..."
“No need,” Lu Xiwen interrupted. “Just a bowl of noodles.”
What flavor is it?
"random."
It was rare for Mr. Lu to be so "well-served." As soon as Pei Wu entered the door, she changed her shoes with practiced ease, washed her hands, and went to the kitchen. After thinking it over, she made scallion oil, scooped out all the flavorful ingredients, fried some peanuts, and made noodles that were coated with oil. With some energy left, Pei Wu added a dish of green peppers and king oyster mushrooms.
Pour a glass of my favorite iced lemon tea, and I'm all set.
It has to be said that the top-tier Alpha truly has the strongest configuration: an iron stomach.
"Stay here tonight," Lu Xiwen said before eating. "There are a few things I need to tell you about our cooperation with Shengxing."
Pei Wu: "Okay."
Lu Xiwen appreciated this, always finishing his plate, which made Pei Wu feel very accomplished.
After dinner, Lu Xiwen turned on his computer and broke down the general concepts Sheng Xing had sent him for Pei Wu. It was basically like a teacher chewing up the information and feeding it to a student. Pei Wu didn't dare to let him down, and asked questions on the spot. They exchanged ideas back and forth for three hours before they knew it.
It was already dark, but even with the light sticking out of the window, you could still see the heavy snowflakes falling.
After taking a sip of hot tea, and listening to the soft sound of falling snow outside, Pei Wu felt both tired and satisfied.
One of the things to be thankful for in this world is that someone recognizes your worth.
The sound of falling snow around her ears gradually became more intense and clear, as if she were there herself. The crisp, clear scent seemed to drift in through the cracks in the window, and Pei Wu's thoughts gradually melted away, becoming hazy.
As he pondered how to proceed with his work, he also thought that no matter how heavy the snow, it was warm here, especially beside him, like having a fireplace.
"Pei Wu?"
Someone is calling him.
It seemed to be Lu Xiwen's voice.
Deep, magnetic, and very hypnotic.
"Hmm," Pei Wu replied, but what happened after that? She didn't know.
The overhead light was warm and inviting. Lu Xiwen glanced sideways and saw Pei Wu resting her head on his shoulder, her eyelashes casting a small shadow under her eyes. The curves from the tip of her nose to her chin were distinct and beautiful, and even in her calmness, she revealed a kind of docility that was rarely seen.
Lu Xiwen couldn't describe the feeling he was experiencing at that moment.
Pei Wu was restrained and polite, but also represented a sense of distance. His mind had been tempered to be extremely sharp through constant setbacks; in other words, he found it difficult to directly trust anyone.
But now, they are so close.
Lu Xiwen remained motionless for a long time.
