Chapter 31 Pei Wu, Open the Door

Chapter 31 Pei Wu, Open the Door

More than an hour had passed, and Lu Xiwen had read through countless documents when Pei Wu's head suddenly gave way, lurching downwards and waking him up.

Pei Wu blinked blankly, then realized what she meant and said with great embarrassment, "President Lu, I..."

Lu Xiwen said calmly, "It's nothing."

Coincidentally, he also helped Pei Wu repair her pheromone barrier.

"Go back to your room and get some sleep," Lu Xiwen said. "I'm done too."

Pei Wu was too embarrassed to speak, her face burning with embarrassment.

Before going to sleep, Pei Wu received a text message from Pei Zhen: "Brother, are you coming home for Chinese New Year?"

Before Pei Wu could reply, Pei Zhen sent another message: "I don't want you to come back. I'll come find you later."

Pei Wu immediately understood what it meant; his parents were probably planning something for Pei Ming again.

[I understand, bro. Get some rest.]

Putting down his phone, Pei Wu felt calm. He was just worried about Pei Zhen, but fortunately, Pei Zhen was an Omega and had good grades, so her situation wouldn't be bad.

In his memory, he would only stay for one night at most when he went back in previous years. Whether it was Pei Ming or his parents, there was always one of them that made him want to escape.

Pei Wu thought to herself, "I'll stay in a rented apartment this year."

As the year draws to a close, the company is in a cheerful mood, and the tense atmosphere has eased. After finishing their work, everyone gathers together to chat and laugh.

Pei Wu and Lu Xiwen arrived at the company in the same car.

A branch manager noticed in the parking garage that Lan Zhe was passing by. He couldn't resist grabbing him and whispering, "Assistant Lan, where's Lao Zhu? Is Assistant Pei working as a driver now?"

"Look at the question you asked," Lan Zhe thought to himself. "Why are you hesitating about what to choose in an open-book exam?" Lan Zhe was angry at his own lack of ambition, but he still maintained a calm and composed demeanor. "Assistant Pei is now President Lu's key protégé."

The manager was very envious, "Like this."

"That's it? Go ahead and ask! Didn't any of you notice?" Lan Zhe lightly pounded his chest twice.

Pei Wu's meal today consisted of fried dumplings. Lan Zhe went to the rooftop alone. The cold morning wind couldn't diminish his immersive enjoyment of the moment. "That's good," Lan Zhe thought. "At least President Lu is no longer a fire-breathing Tyrannosaurus Rex."

During the morning meeting, more errors were found in the submitted materials. Lu Xiwen quickly flipped through them a few times and said in a deep voice, "We haven't even started our holiday yet, what are you celebrating for? If you don't like it, I'll have someone put up a banner at the company entrance that says 'Stand firm until the very last moment,' one by one..."

Lu Xiwen was still cursing when a cup of warm tea was placed beside him. He looked up and saw Pei Wu staring intently at the computer, seemingly unaware of anything. She took a sip and even added chrysanthemum flowers to cool her down.

The aroma of tea turned into tiny needles, piercing the anger of the passersby and causing it to leak out completely.

"I'll be more careful next time," Lu Xiwen said somewhat dismissively. "That's all for now, meeting adjourned."

Hmph, they're not learning anything good; they're just learning how to flatter their bosses all day long.

In an instant, countless gazes filled with admiration and gratitude shot towards Pei Wu, making him seem almost radiant.

Back in his office, Lan Zhe received a call from home, seemingly asking him to buy something, which Lan Zhe readily agreed to.

It would be a lie to say I'm not envious of this wonderful family atmosphere. Pei Wu said, "I heard you mention lanterns earlier. Are you going to hang them on the balcony? Go to the bottom of Bailing Mall. Don't be fooled by the street stalls; the quality is excellent, and they have a wide variety."

Lan Zhe looked grateful: "Okay, okay, okay."

The holiday officially started the day before Lunar New Year's Eve, but many people had already left, and Lu Xiwen turned a blind eye.

After getting off work, Pei Wu took some time to buy New Year's goods. He stood in front of the couplet stall for a moment, and finally picked up a pair.

The horizontal scroll reads "May everything go smoothly".

When Pei Wu arrived at the company the next day, Lan Zhe's workstation was already empty, and the clutter on his desk had been neatly tidied up, indicating that he had probably gone home. Pei Wu finished up the last bit.

Around noon, Lu Xiwen pushed open the door and came in, looking somewhat surprised to see Pei Wu: "Why haven't you left yet?"

"Right away." Pei Wu was equally surprised. "Where's President Lu?"

"I need to get something; I'll take you there."

Pei Wu didn't drive today, so upon hearing this, he didn't hold back.

Pei Wu rents an apartment in an old-style residential area, about a half-hour drive from her company. Lately, there's been a lot of traffic, probably because too many people are in a hurry to get home. Pei Wu glanced at the traffic light with a minute and a half left and asked Lu Xiwen, "Mr. Lu, are you going home?"

"Of course, I'll go back after I drop you off."

Pei Wu hadn't heard Lu Xiwen mention anything about his parents, but she figured it was Chinese New Year, a time for family reunions.

It took more than an hour to drive there. The community still uses old-fashioned iron gates, and the gatekeeper was dozing off in the security booth.

Lu Xiwen rolled down the car window, frowned, and surveyed the neighborhood. "Is it safe?"

Pei Wu pointed to the street across the street, "The police station is 300 meters ahead. Petty thieves usually don't dare to come here."

Lu Xiwen's expression softened after hearing this.

It started snowing again. Pei Wu took a few steps, stopped, and turned around. He found Lu Xiwen staring at him. The familiar heat rose to his cheeks, but Pei Wu just smiled gently and said, "Mr. Lu, Happy New Year."

Lu Xiwen nodded: "You too, Happy New Year."

Pei Wu entered the residential area, stopped at the entrance of the building, and turned her head to look. The black Cayenne had already driven away. A gust of wind suddenly rose, and snowflakes blew into her eyes. Pei Wu raised her hand to shield her eyes, and then quickly went upstairs.

On the morning of New Year's Eve, Pei Wu woke up and went to the window. Most of the shops, big and small, were closed because of the heavy snow and there were few people on the road.

Pei Wu took out cabbage, vermicelli, scallions, and a piece of pork foreleg from the refrigerator. She chopped the meat herself, and after chopping it, she was covered in sweat. She then mixed it with scallion and ginger water to make it elastic. She also had to knead the dough on the spot. She was busy until noon before she finished making all the dumplings.

The sounds of firecrackers exploding and children playing excitedly could be heard sporadically outside.

Rarely having a moment of peace and quiet, Pei Wu, without work, sat on the sofa with a blanket and watched dramas all afternoon, watching whichever channel was playing without being picky. Occasionally, she would be amazed at how bad the acting skills of the newcomers in the entertainment industry were.

Before we knew it, it was already dark.

After each episode finishes airing, commercials begin, and then it's time for the live broadcast of the Lunar New Year's Eve Gala.

Pei Wu sat motionless for an unknown amount of time. He hugged his knees and huddled in a corner, as if the tranquility of the daytime had been completely taken away with the dimming light. He felt an indescribable sense of loss and sadness, but as an adult, he couldn't easily share these emotions with others. His phone vibrated intermittently; it was a New Year's greeting text message from his colleagues at the company, clearly a mass text.

Pei Wu wanted to cook dumplings, but was too lazy to do it.

call out--

Someone couldn't wait and set off fireworks ahead of time. The colorful light fell on the glass and for a moment illuminated Pei Wu's face, which couldn't hide her anticipation.

Pei Wu noticed that she herself was a little confused about what she was expecting.

The "bang bang bang" sound was very frequent, and at first glance it sounded like knocking on a door.

Pei Wu quietly finished admiring the scene, then noticed that the sky had returned to darkness, but the "bang bang" sounds continued.

He paused for a moment, then suddenly looked towards the doorway.

Bang bang bang!

Pei Wu's heart started racing for no reason. She got off the sofa, slipped on her slippers, and walked to the door, asking, "Who is it?"

"It's me." Lu Xiwen's voice came clearly: "Pei Wu, open the door."
