Chapter 63 Forgive Me
Pei Wu didn't feel any pain, but she had a very long dream.
Upon arriving at Changrong and seeing Lu Xiwen for the first time, the Alpha quietly sized him up, his beautiful pupils revealing a hint of scrutiny. Pei Wu then diligently performed every task, taking the initiative to handle the messes in the project department in order to improve himself. By the time Lu Xiwen realized his abilities, it was already the umpteenth time Pei Wu had worked for free.
Once he caught her eye and was able to get in touch with some core projects, Pei Wu had more time and was unconsciously drawn to Lu Xiwen.
But that slight attraction was nothing compared to Lu Xiwen's indifference.
Pei Wu had no habit of humiliating himself, but gradually he discovered that Lu Xiwen treated him differently.
Pei Wu knew the gap between the two, but before he joined Changrong, many people told him that such a big company did not accept Betas. Pei Wu not only got in, but also did very well.
Lu Xiwen's net worth had nothing to do with him. Pei Wu thought that such an easy person to take care of, who was happy with just a sweet and sour fish, could also support their future if he worked hard.
It was a very naive idea, but Pei Wu had been living with it for over twenty years.
He consciously and willingly fell into a beautiful dream.
At the end of the dream, there was a pair of cold, rejecting eyes.
Pei Wumeng woke up.
Noticing the commotion, Lu Xiwen turned around abruptly.
Their eyes met, and the blank look on Pei Wu's face lasted only a few seconds before her eyes cleared.
Lu Xiwen's heart pounded violently, his lungs felt like they were being shattered. He was so happy he didn't know what to do, but as soon as he took a step forward, he heard Pei Wu silently call out, "President Lu."
The simple word signifies Pei Wu's retreat to the other side, restoring their relationship to that of superior and subordinate.
Lu Xiwen paused for only half a second before stepping forward as if unaffected. He first pressed the bedside bell, then checked the gauze covering the gland for any blood seepage. "Don't speak yet." His voice was also hoarse. Because of the close proximity, Pei Wu could even see faint bruises under his eyes.
"A few days?" Pei Wu managed to utter a faint whisper this time.
Lu Xiwen understood what he meant: "You've been unconscious for five days."
After so long, Pei Wu still wanted to say something, but then he felt an itch in his throat and couldn't help coughing. This aggravated the wound on the back of his neck, causing a sudden and intense ringing in his ears.
Worried that he might choke, Lu Xiwen immediately picked him up gently.
When the doctors and nurses arrived, Pei Wu leaned against Lu Xiwen's chest, the two of them in a position that was almost perfectly intertwined, their pheromones gently soothing each other.
"At least it's starting to look like an Alpha," the doctor thought.
After retrieving the monitoring data from the side, the doctor gave Pei Wu a quick examination, then frowned slightly, "Fortunately, the gland wasn't infected, otherwise you would have known how serious it would have been if it had been removed."
Pei Wu gave a very slight twitch at the corner of his mouth; he hadn't expected the gland to be saved.
"Still weak," the doctor said. "The pheromones can't be stopped."
Lu Xiwen readily accepted this and nodded to the doctor, "Understood."
Pei Wu's right hand was also wrapped in gauze due to a cut, and it lay pale on the blanket. He only moved his body after the doctor and nurse left, but the next second Lu Xiwen pressed him down: "Don't move."
Pei Wu remained silent for a moment, then realized that this wouldn't do.
“President Lu,” Pei Wu said, “I’m sorry to have troubled you these past few days. Chang Rong is very busy with official duties, so you don’t need to worry about me. I can hire a caregiver.”
He couldn't see Lu Xiwen's face, but he felt that the man's aura changed strangely. Then Lu Xiwen said without any emotion, "Pei Wu, the doctor said that the pheromones cannot be stopped."
Pei Wu: "I understand. I can purchase pheromone extract from high-level Alphas..."
“No.” Lu Xiwen interrupted. He had been trying his best to control his emotions, but he was still stung by Pei Wu’s distant attitude.
Pei Wu patiently explained, "President Lu, you are top-tier. Once I get used to your pheromones, I might develop immunity to other Alphas' pheromones in the future..."
"Pei Wu." Lu Xiwen buried her head in his neck: "Do you have to talk to me like that?"
Isn't that right? Pei Wu stared blankly.
He naturally remembered that Lu Xiwen had brought him to the hospital, but what he remembered even more vividly was Lu Xiwen's cold gaze as he took a half-step back. Now, because of his health, Lu Xiwen was forced to compromise, but the glands needed time to recover. What if Lu Xiwen became impatient during this period? The two of them would only feel more awkward then.
Pei Wu still cherishes his job at Changrong. He probably won't be able to work as an assistant in the future, but Lu Xiwen appreciates his talent and will probably put him in another department. Pei Wu will still be able to work hard.
Pei Wu was doing her best to make both of them more comfortable.
But at this moment, Lu Xiwen felt warm breath spraying on the side of his neck, damp, as if he were very aggrieved.
"Lu Xiwen," Pei Wu said softly, "I don't want us to..."
He suddenly frowned, then turned and fell off the bed. If Lu Xiwen hadn't been holding him up, he would have fallen off. The sudden discomfort was too much for Pei Wu to handle.
Seeing Pei Wu covering her mouth and not moving, Lu Xi kicked the trash can out from under the bed. "She's not moving, she's right here."
Pei Wu had nothing to vomit; the medication was causing her stomach to spasm, and her vision was blurring intermittently.
With reddened eyes, Lu Xiwen hugged Pei Wu from behind, his fingers covering Pei Wu's pale, slender fingers that were gripping the edge of the bed. He then wrapped the two of them tightly with his pheromones, ensuring that no pheromones would leak out. Then, the powerful pheromones seemed to seep into Pei Wu's pores.
All discomfort was effectively relieved in an instant.
Pei Wu took deep breaths, trying to regain her composure. "Xi Wen, listen to me. You don't like Omega partners, but I suddenly differentiated and became an Omega. I'm not lying to you. My doctor even told me that if I continued to absorb pheromones, I might need an artificial gland. Now, it's a blessing in disguise."
Lu Xiwen tightened his arms around Pei Wu, embracing his entire weight as if holding a piece of brocade. He didn't even need Pei Wu to support him.
"If you really think that way, how did the cuts on the glands come about?"
Pei Wu's mouth was full of bitterness: "That night, my mind was dominated by pheromones, and the pain and sorrow were magnified infinitely. I just misunderstood for a moment."
“Because my departure was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.” Lu Xiwen’s voice was very low and deep, his lips almost touching the gland through the gauze. “Pei Wu, that night I was also overwhelmed by the most fearful and disgusting thing in my heart. For a moment, I even mistook your face. I wasn’t sober. You have to forgive me.”
His "Forgive me" was choked with sobs, which startled Pei Wu. She turned to look at Lu Xiwen, but he held her captive, preventing her from moving.
“Pei Wu,” Lu Xiwen said, “I can accept that my partner is an Omega.”
"Because you are an Omega."
In fact, the moment he saw Pei Wu lying in a pool of blood, the previous nightmare vanished. But now, a new nightmare has been born, and Lu Xiwen cannot bear the consequences of losing Pei Wu.
His emotions were completely outward, his usual composure and self-control were nowhere to be found, and he held Pei Wu tightly, as if he were really about to cry.
