Chapter 151 Ramblings (Part 9)

Chapter 151 Ramblings (Part 9)

A breeze stirred on the rooftop, carrying a faint scent of tobacco mixed with a distinct fragrance of bamboo leaves.

Lan Zhe turned his head slightly away.

Zou Xunjing noticed and chuckled, "You hate me that much?"

“No,” Lan Zhe explained, “I’ve never disliked you.”

Zou Xunjing only showed goodwill and never took any extreme actions. Although Zou Xunxian had a lot of crooked ideas, he never forced Lan Zhe. However, as the whole thing unfolded, it aroused his strong sense of territory as a high-level being.

He didn't want a long migration, nor did he want to take in another large family.

Zou Xunjing gazed into the distance: "Hearing you say that makes me feel a little better."

After speaking, Zou Xunjing lowered his head and coughed lightly. His bones were still slender after differentiating into an Omega, and his shoulder blades trembled slightly, making him look exceptionally thin.

Lan Zhe frowned: "Stop smoking."

"Sorry, I forgot you didn't like it." Zou Xunjing stubbed out his cigarette.

After a long silence, Lan Zhe said, "Young Master Zou..."

"Mm," Zou Xunjing said softly, "I know everything."

He turned to look at Lan Zhe, his smile gentle, but with an indelible sadness in his eyes. "I was rejected, wasn't I?"

Lan Zhe didn't respond.

Silence is sometimes the answer.

"I guessed it," Zou Xunjing said. "Maybe I'm not good enough."

“It’s not your problem,” Lan Zhe interrupted. “I have no intention of being in a relationship. Besides, we’re not compatible.”

These words caused Zou Xunjing's eyebrows to twitch slightly.

For a fleeting moment, his expression was profound and unfathomable, as if, amidst the disappointment of rejection, he had caught something he had never noticed before.

"Would you mind telling me about your ideal type, Mr. Ran?"

Lan Zhe shook his head: "There is no such thing as an ideal type. It's all about fate."

"Like this." Zou Xunjing said, taking something out of his pocket.

A small notebook, no bigger than the palm of your hand, and a sketching pen.

"Wait a moment," Zou Xunjing said. "I'll give you a gift."

Lan Zhe would never accept luxury cars and watches, Zou Xunjing knew that. His fingers were fair and beautiful. He quickly scribbled on the paper, and in less than three minutes, Zou Xunjing ripped it off and handed it to Lan Zhe.

Lan Zhe hesitated for a moment before taking it.

When I turned it over, I saw that it was a drawing of myself. Although it was just an outline, it was very lifelike.

Lan Zhe smiled and accepted the gift: "Thank you."

"If our two companies ever collaborate in the future, Assistant Lan, don't try to avoid me," Zou Xunjing said with a smile.

His upturned lips held a hint of reluctance, but remained open and cheerful throughout.

Lan Zhe nodded: "Of course."

"Also, I apologize to you on behalf of my brother. He wanted to give me everything, sometimes without considering the consequences."

"It's alright."

They didn't even openly break the ice before the conversation ended.

Seeing his younger brother return, Zou Xunxian suddenly stood up, looked at Zou Xunjing and then at Lan Zhe, a little uneasy: "Have you finished talking?"

"Well, Assistant Lan and Assistant Pei still have things to do. Brother, let's go back."

Zou Xunxian knew immediately that this was a boast.

Even though Zou Xunxian had listened to Pei Wu's words, he still felt sorry for his younger brother. Even if Zou Xunxian removed the "brother-complex" filter, his brother Xunjing was a high-quality Omega. Not to mention his family background, his facial features were top-notch among Omegas. At every banquet, many people inquired about him, both openly and secretly. Later, he fell in love with Lan Zhe at first sight, but Lan Zhe did not like him.

After going downstairs and getting into the car, Zou Xunjing closed his eyes.

Zou Xun didn't dare to speak for a while, until the car had been driving for five minutes before he cautiously said, "Forget it, bro, there are plenty of fish in the sea. If it doesn't work out, we can find someone else. These days, there are few high-level Alphas and many strong Alphas. Let's forget about Lan Zhe. He's simply, simply ungrateful!"

"Nonsense." Zou Xunjing opened his eyes. "Brother, this is a matter of mutual consent. Don't attack Lan Zhe. Besides, who said I don't want it?"

Zou Xunxian: "Huh? Huh?"

"Don't worry about this." Zou Xunjing spoke softly and slowly, as if searching for the right answer. "I've thought about it, and my starting point was wrong. If I hadn't approached him as the young master of the Zou family, things might not have turned out this way."

Zou Xunxian was completely baffled: "Is there a difference?"

“Yes.” Zou Xunjing closed his eyes again. “Brother, I’m already twenty-two. Even if I’m an Omega, I’m still an adult male. I don’t need you guys following me around all the time.”

Zou Xunxian felt there was something hidden in his words, but he couldn't quite figure it out for the time being. He could only marvel at how understanding his younger brother was.

On the way back to the company, Lan Zhe remained quiet.

Pei Wu was driving when, while waiting at a traffic light, he glanced at Lan Zhe's complexion. "Are you feeling unwell?"

"Temporary."

Pei Wu: "That means you still have feelings for her."

"What I mean by a high-quality Omega is that, apart from the top-tier ones, any Alpha, when facing them, will prioritize secreting a hormone called 'heartbeat' before reacting with their own will and emotions," Lan Zhe said calmly. "So this is normal."

"Do you know what I admire most about you?" Pei Wu said, "You seem to be engrossed in poetry and art appreciation every day, but in reality, you are an absolute realist."

Lan Zhe smiled.

Zou Xunjing passed by without a second thought. For Lan Zhe, life is so long, there will always be a little bit of regret, especially at sunset.

The red sun slowly sank at the end of the road, and it was just getting dark when they arrived at the company.

As soon as I opened the office door, I saw Lu Xiwen sitting at Pei Wu's workstation.

Lan Zhe tensed up instantly.

Lu Xiwen frowned: "Where did you guys go?"

"I was discussing business with Mr. Zou," Pei Wu said. "We talked a lot, and there was traffic on the way, which caused the delay."

Lan Zhe quickly tidied up the table: "I'm done with work, so I'll be going now."

Lu Xiwen: "Want to have dinner together?"

"No, no, no." Lan Zhe indicated that he still had that much sense.

The office door clicked shut.

Pei Wu walked up to Lu Xiwen: "Are you unhappy?"

Lu Xiwen pulled Pei Wu onto his lap and buried his face in her neck. “All afternoon, when I came back here it was empty. I was worried that your barrier had thinned.”

"Mmm," Pei Wu responded softly, nuzzling his forehead with her nose to soothe him. Lu Xiwen was particularly emotional around him because he was so adorable, really like a big cat rolling over and whining. Pei Wu was willing to coax him.

"Has Zou Xun stopped poaching my people?"

"No," Pei Wu said. "It shouldn't happen again in the future. Lan Zhe and Zou Xunjing have already made things clear."

"Huh?" Lu Xi asked in surprise, "What did he say to Zou Xunjing?"

Pei Wu blinked: "Don't tell me you didn't notice."

Upon hearing the connection between the events and Pei Wu's expression, Lu Xi was immediately taken aback. "Zou Xunjing... Lan Zhe refused?"

"Um."

Lu Xiwen's expression was complicated: "He really is obsessed with work. How about we give him a raise next month?"
