Chapter 41 It's time to spray
To be precise, it's the key card for the villa's main gate.
Pei Wu only knew the access code for the inner villa. There was a green space outside, and a fountain. There was a white carved gate about three meters high, with a main entrance and a side entrance. This card was also the key to the underground parking garage.
Pei Wu felt a tightness and a soreness in her heart.
Lu Xiwen handed it to him naturally, looking rather arrogant, and had already come up with a reason in just a few seconds.
"The cooperation with Shengxing absolutely cannot have any problems. You will be reporting to me a lot more often in the future. If things are not clear over the phone, then talk to me in person. Also, let's get to know each other better."
Pei Wu: "..."
Pei Wu was stunned into silence by Alpha's blunt words.
Start with zero frames.
They came out with an attitude of risking their lives.
Pei Wu: "I can come with you..."
“What if I’m away on a business trip? What if I’m not here? Your shabby little rented room can’t even provide heating. What if you catch a cold?” Lu Xiwen disagreed.
Pei Wu let out a soft breath and took the access card. "Okay."
*
People are going back to work on the eighth day of the Lunar New Year, and they're all too lazy to stay home.
Pei Wu and Lu Xiwen arrived at the company half an hour early.
I need to prepare meeting materials and tidy up the office, which hasn't been ventilated for a week.
"What would you like to drink?" Pei Wu asked.
Lu Xiwen turned on the computer: "A cup of plain tea will do."
Pei Wu figured Lan Zhe should be arriving soon, so she casually made him a cup of tea.
As soon as he came out, he heard Lu Xiwen muttering to himself, "Are you my assistant or Lan Zhe's assistant? If he wants to drink it, can't he make it himself?"
Pei Wu sipped her water and said, "Are all possessive people this strong?"
Lu Xi thought to himself, "I've been holding back."
"It's alright," Pei Wu said. "I'll teach you."
It's a bit humorous to talk about "teaching" a top-tier Alpha, since they are all geniuses. But Pei Wu understands that instinct will make Lu Xiwen hide the people or things he likes, so that others will feel uncomfortable if they even glance at them. This comes from the literature he read last night.
Lu Xiwen thought he should turn back and ask Pei Wu carefully how many relationships she had had, and why she could say such sweet things so easily.
Lan Zhe pushed open the door and entered at that moment.
...
Something's not right!
Lan Zhe became alert.
At first glance, everything seemed unchanged. President Lu sat at his desk, perhaps thinking about the upcoming meeting, and showed a tired and indifferent expression. Pei Wu stood by her workstation, still gentle and warm. But Lan Zhe felt that some kind of magnetic field had changed.
Lan Zhe entered cautiously, taking half the steps he usually did.
"You've just learned that ladylike walk?" Lu Xiwen asked with a sneer after seeing it.
Lan Zhe: "..."
After taking a sip of hot tea, Lan Zhe calmed himself down and realized that he might not be the most unlucky one.
That's true; once you're in the meeting room, everyone is equal.
This means that no matter who it is, they will all get a few words from Boss Lu.
This includes Pei Wu.
"Is this the data you compiled?" Lu Xiwen casually tossed a stack of documents in front of Pei Wu. "The data is from the year before last. Didn't they report last year's project to you?"
"Reported! Reported!" The project manager almost jumped up to prove his innocence.
Pei Wu accepted the criticism without hesitation, saying, "It was my oversight, please continue."
Pei Wu had no objection to this. Mixing emotions into work was something only children would do. Once fairness was lost, it meant that innocent people would have to cover for him. Pei Wu felt it was better not to do such a despicable thing.
Pei Wu took the documents and went back; the meeting continued until 12:30 pm.
Even the flies that had been bothered all morning were now perched on the table.
When Lu Xi heard that the meeting was adjourned, Pei Wu saw that a certain vice president's eyes were wandering, and he stood up completely out of it, then bumped his knee on the chair leg.
"I heard they have sweet and sour fish for lunch. Shall I go get some?" Pei Wu asked Xi Wen.
Lan Zhe was about to go out for lunch when he heard this and stopped in his tracks.
I finally realized what was wrong.
It was so natural and so comfortable.
Pei Zhu's use of honorifics when addressing President Lu decreased significantly, and their interactions gradually became more like eye contact.
Lu Xiwen frowned slightly: "Alright."
Besides the sweet and sour fish, Pei Wu also brought three vegetarian dishes and two meat dishes, which was more than enough for the two of them, Lu Xiwen.
As soon as he pushed open the door, Lu Xiwen looked up, as if he had been waiting for a long time.
"Come in," Lu Xi said. "Lan Zhe won't be back for a while."
Lan Zhe knows how to enjoy life and never skimps on food; he's probably cutting steak in some upscale restaurant right now.
Pei Wu entered the inner room and closed the middle partition door behind him.
Seeing Pei Wu set out the food, Lu Xi asked, "You're not angry, are you?"
Pei Wu knew what he meant. "No, feel free to criticize me next time."
Lu Xiwen felt instantly relieved.
The sweet and sour fish in the cafeteria tastes okay, but it just doesn't quite live up to the aroma and flavor of the street food.
Lu Xiwen picked up the tenderest piece of fish maw, intending to put it in his bowl, but paused slightly and handed it to Pei Wu: "You're used to eating your own cooking, how can you still eat this from the cafeteria?"
“As long as it’s not pre-made food, it’s fine,” Pei Wu said. “Actually, after eating it for a long time, it’s all the same.”
“I don’t think so,” Lu Xiwen said in a low voice.
Pei Wu paused in her chewing, and the Alpha spoke as if she were being coquettish.
"I'll make it for you tonight," Pei Wu said softly. "You can have something simple for lunch, okay?"
Lu Xiwen was pleased and even hummed a couple of lines, "I'm not as delicate as you think."
"Not spoiled at all?" Pei Wu thought to himself, "Besides President Lu, who else could give him such an unforgettable experience?"
When Lan Zhe returned, the office was back to normal.
But it was no use. Lan Zhe sat down with an air of worldly wisdom and finally understood how President Lu viewed ordinary people. He knew everything!
Besides making sweet and sour fish, Pei Wu also had to deal with the first mess after the New Year. The person in charge of a project had resigned, and it was said that there were also funding problems on that side, so the project was likely to be canceled. But the money invested had to be recovered. Pei Wu followed the leads and made contact at each level, and the other party said mysteriously and excitedly, "There might be a chance!"
Whether it's a chance or not isn't up to the other party to decide; Pei Wu has to go and see for herself.
The next day at noon, Pei Wu left with the documents amidst the admiring gazes of everyone in the project department, driving the company car straight to the meeting point mentioned by the business partner.
As soon as I got off the bus at my destination, Lu Xiwen sent me a text message: "Be careful in everything."
Pei Wu replied: 【Okay, don't worry.】
After thinking for a moment, Pei Wu sent a meme of a kitten eating fish.
Lu Xiwen: [?]
Pei Wu clicked "withdraw".
Lu Xiwen: [???]
Helpless, Pei Wu reposted the image of a kitten eating fish, and then sent another emoji of petting a cat's head.
Lu Xiwen didn't reply again. Pei Wu was already experienced and could imagine the whining and groaning on the other end.
The top-tier treatment granted Alpha absolute rationality, but it didn't smooth out Lu Xiwen's temper. Pei Wu didn't say it, but he liked it very much.
Pei Wu put away her phone, went up the steps, and entered the coffee shop.
