Chapter 22 The Confession

Chapter 22 The Confession

After Pei Wu finished drinking the water, Lu Xiwen pulled up a stool and sat down opposite him.

"Mr. Lu?"

Pei Wu crossed her legs, and because of her height and habit, her gaze was always lowered.

"Since it's not serious, shall we start the confession process right away?" Lu Xiwen suggested.

Pei Wu slowed her breathing, and within seconds, as if she had been fully prepared, she calmly asked, "What does President Lu want to know?"

“In this world, ordinary Alphas make up 93 percent, and high-level Alphas, including A-level Alphas, make up only 5 percent. The rest, excluding those that failed to differentiate, are the top-tier Alphas. Betas don’t react much to the pheromones of ordinary Alphas. Pei Wu, this is the second time you’ve felt unwell because of someone else’s pheromones.” Lu Xiwen spoke calmly, but the phrase “someone else’s pheromones” at the end sounded rather strange.

“Back in Haicheng, Tao Jin, as a high-level Alpha, was able to influence the magnetic field and cause some damage, which I understand. But what about Ji Bin?” Lu Xiwen let one hand fall between his legs, his slightly curled finger bones quite beautiful. “Theoretically speaking, a low-quality B-level Alpha shouldn’t be able to stimulate you.”

Pei Wu fell silent.

Even today, he insists that he should be a Beta, and that the initial genetic testing was wrong. After all, cases of unexpected secondary differentiation are not uncommon. It was Pei Gaosheng who tried to use an Omega child to defy fate and pinned unfounded sins on him.

His heightened sensitivity to pheromones was not a consequence of failing to differentiate into an Omega, but rather a result of his health being disrupted by the sudden arrival of Omega influences, even though he was supposed to be a Beta.

These two are fundamentally different, and they influence Pei Wu's view of the world.

"You passed all the medical examinations when you joined the company, which means there are no problems with your body and organs. You mentioned treating an illness when you were young, Pei Wu, is it related to differentiation?" Lu Xiwen's tone was not aggressive, but rather very gentle.

Pei Wu's eyelashes trembled slightly as she replied, "Yes."

“I am indeed one of the more unusual types of Betas. The doctor said it might be that the dormant Omega genes within me awakened at the last moment.” Pei Wu felt her lips were a little dry, but she had already finished the water in her glass. “I’m sorry, Mr. Lu, I didn’t mean to hide it from you, because this disease can be controlled…”

“But things are getting a bit out of control right now, aren’t they?” Lu Xiwen interrupted.

Pei Wu felt the oxygen in his lungs becoming scarce, and a familiar sense of frustration shot straight into his brain. It was from countless days and nights when the young Pei Wu could only lie in bed, listening to his parents' sighs and complaints from the other side of the wall, and then facing the high cost of treatment, the unintentional reproachful glances from his family, or Pei Wu urging himself more than once, why wasn't he getting better?

The pain he suffered from this illness only gradually subsided as his life returned to normal over the years.

Now that Lu Xiwen mentioned it, it seems he has lost control of this body again.

Pei Wu was more cautious this time. "President Lu, I promise that it will not affect my work. If I cause any trouble for you, you can fire me immediately."

There was a rustling sound, followed by Lu Xiwen lifting Pei Wu's chin. The man's beautiful eyes scrutinized him, his expression clearly disapproving. "You think this is what I care about?"

“Pei Wu, you don’t seem willing to talk about this, but I have to remind you that even though you are a Beta, you will most likely need something like a blocker. Be careful.”

Lu Xi's expression was unusually lively when he heard this. Perhaps because of the close distance, Pei Wu was surprised to find that his eyes were not sharp in shape. On the contrary, they had a roundness that was unique to felines. However, when he was serious, they would curve into a cold arc.

"Ah, okay," Pei Wu replied quickly.

“I’m just sick,” Lu Xi said. “I’m not that inhuman.”

“No…” Pei Wu gently shook her head: “It’s not your problem.”

He didn't say it explicitly, but Lu Xiwen, who never liked to listen to half-hearted advice, understood what was going on.

He even had to struggle to go home, so he must have suffered a lot of disdain.

Lu Xiwen felt a little irritated. He still found it unbelievable that so many people in this world could become parents without learning how.

They couldn't stay in the room for long. Pei Wu slowly put on his suit, his nerves relaxed. Although his arm hurt a little, it didn't affect him much.

Lu Xiwen followed behind Pei Wu, watching his back thoughtfully.

Blocking agents alone are not enough. Lu Xiwen really finds it annoying that Pei Wu has the scent of other Alphas on her; it's a kind of territorial provocation.

As he was about to leave, Lu Xiwen's gaze calmed down. He subtly enveloped Pei Wu with his pheromones, forming an invisible barrier. It was not as effective as a temporary mark, and there was no way they could have a mark between them. It could probably last for four or five days.

"We can continue later," Lu Xiwen thought to himself.

This way, if an Alpha tries to do something to Pei Wu by activating pheromones, they will definitely receive a warning from him.

Pei Wu is my assistant, Lu Xiwen thought. To cause trouble for him would be to slap himself in the face, so that definitely couldn't happen.

"Come to my place after the annual meeting," Lu Xi said. "I want to eat sushi."

Pei Wu sensed that he was in a good mood and replied, "Okay."

"Mr. Lu, do you remember the brand of perfume you use?" Pei Wu asked. The refreshing scent was everywhere; it smelled so good.

Pei Wu couldn't see it, but Lu Xiwen's expression became even stranger.

Do you like it that much? Mr. Lu's lips twitched suspiciously, then he quickly suppressed it.

With a touch of wicked humor, Lu Xiwen continued, "You can't buy it anymore, it's been discontinued for a long time. I only have half a bottle left."

“I see.” Pei Wu’s tone was full of regret.

Upon arriving at the banquet hall, the trouble caused by Ji Bin had long since subsided, and everyone was chatting and raising their glasses in a harmonious atmosphere.

but……

"Mr. Lu, it seems quite a few people are secretly observing us," Pei Wu whispered.

Lu Xiwen: "Are you afraid of being seen?"

"No, not at all..."

"Let them do whatever they want," Lu Xiwen said impatiently. "I'm busy as a bee all day long, let these people think what they want."

Pei Wu's spirits lifted. That's right! Worth learning from!

The annual party was a great success, ending at 10 p.m. Those who weren't satisfied could make other arrangements. Pei Wu took care of seeing off several bigwigs, while President Zhang, as expected, was slurring his words and kept muttering to Pei Wu, "I knew it... I knew it, they're all taking advantage of my low alcohol tolerance..."

Pei Wu smiled and helped him into the car. "Take care, Mr. Zhang."

When everything was over, Lu Xiwen and others frowned slightly.

"Okay." Pei Wu jogged up the steps.

"Drive your car," Lu Xiwen said.

Who says Mr. Lu is arrogant? He's clearly easygoing and enjoys mingling with his employees...

Before Pei Wu could finish praising him in her heart, Lu Xiwen continued, "Otherwise, I'm worried that the parking fee here for one night will bankrupt you."

Pei Wu: "..."
