Chapter 154 Ramblings (12)
Pei Wu took the jade Guanyin and glanced at it briefly. It was indeed of top quality, with a smooth and lustrous sheen.
Mr. Zou glanced at Pei Wu and continued with a smile, "It's best to put it in the master bedroom. Omegas sometimes experience emotional tremors, and it's said to be able to calm the mind and stabilize the spirit. My son, Xiao Jing, has one in his room."
Zou Xunjing didn't come over; he was chatting with his friends from a distance.
Everyone could see that the gift was aimed at Pei Wu, so they pointed at Lu Xiwen's heart and scratched it to make way for the conversation to continue.
Pei Wu and Lan Zhe took turns recording important information.
“It’s my turn. The orange juice over there has great bubbles,” Pei Wu said. “Go try it.”
Lan Zhe: "Okay."
Lan Zhe walked to the table, picked out a sweet orange flavor, and found it refreshing and thirst-quenching after one sip. He then leaned against the table and slowly savored it.
As he looked up, Zou Xunjing was also looking in his direction.
Their eyes met, and Zou Xunjing smiled and raised his hand to greet him. His expression was very natural, and Lan Zhe, seeing this, did not stand on ceremony and responded politely.
"The one in the gray suit?" Someone, swaying from drinking, pointed at Lan Zhe.
"Yes, Mr. Lu's special assistant, hey? Where are you going?"
"Please help my little Jing get justice!"
The person speaking was Zou Xunjing's cousin, named Zou Li.
"Get it back my ass! Xunxian already said that Xiaojing knows what he's doing and told us not to meddle!"
"What do you know?" Zou Li sneered, tracing Lan Zhe's outline with his finger. "People like this need to be taught a lesson so they'll know what kind of immense wealth awaits them."
Zou Li shook off the people around him and walked towards Lan Zhe.
Lan Zhe finished his glass of sparkling water and was about to get a second one when someone raised their hand to stop him.
Lan Zhe looked over and saw an unfamiliar face.
"Don't you recognize me?" The other person had an arrogant and smug look on their face, which was as red as a monkey's butt. "Come on, tell me, why did you refuse my Xiao Jing?"
An unnamed fire ignited in Lan Zhe's heart.
Lu Xiwen noticed the commotion as he turned around.
"What's there to talk about with you?" Lan Zhe retorted.
"Hey!" Zou Li was surprised and a little angry: "I heard you come from an ordinary family. So what if your pheromone level is high? This is a society that requires background and connections. Getting involved with my Xiao Jing is a blessing you've accumulated over several lifetimes, understand?"
Lan Zhe's face turned cold.
A pheromone attack struck, carrying a chilling, bone-piercing aura. Before Lu Xiwen could utter "Say it again," Lan Zhe swiftly grabbed Zou Li by the neck. "This is Hongdu," Lan Zhe said, enunciating each word clearly, "Do you think I can kill you?"
Over the years, countless people have tried to curry favor with Lan Zhe, and it could even be said that the Zou family is trying to get a share of the biotechnology pie. It wouldn't be difficult for Lan Zhe to interfere with them.
When will these arrogant idiots finally put their eyes back in their sockets instead of making him vomit?
Zou Li rolled his eyes, and Lan Zhe released him as his mouth unconsciously opened wide.
The pheromone attack struck Zou Li in the waist, causing him to lose his balance and almost fall. Just then, someone threw a punch.
Pei Wu raised an eyebrow in surprise.
Zou Li was sent flying two or three meters away, crashing into a table.
Zou Xunjing remained in the position of throwing a punch, his aura unusually furious.
When Zou's father saw this, he knew without asking that this good-for-nothing was causing trouble, so he told people to get rid of him quickly.
Zou Li was struck three times in a row and completely lost consciousness.
Zou Xunjing's entire arm was numb.
Then the numbness spread throughout his body along with his blood, and soon he even felt cold. For a few seconds, Zou Xunjing was completely numb. He just stood up by instinct. Not wanting to lose face, he slowly turned around. His mind was a mess, and he didn't understand how things had turned out this way again.
He changed jobs and planned to live the way he wanted. Originally, he followed his older brother Zou Xunxian only to find an opportunity to interact with Lan Zhe. Later, after realizing Lan Zhe's sensitive spots, Zou Xunjing removed all those halos. After a brief period of frustration, he felt that there was still a chance for them to get to know each other again.
He is not just a good boy who hides under his parents' wings. He has his own ideas and sense of self, and he never thinks that bowing down for love is a humiliating thing.
Zou Xunjing was worried about startling Lan Zhe, so he avoided him whenever they met on the pedestrian street recently. Even today, when he came to the banquet, he did not go up to disturb him with his father.
But why... did Zou Li suddenly appear?
Zou Xunjing's throat tightened, and he didn't dare to look at Lan Zhe's face.
"I'm sorry." His first voice was hoarse, but he regained some composure and repeated, "I'm sorry, I didn't know..."
Zou Xunjing suddenly fell silent, feeling it was pointless.
Lan Zhe wanted to say "It's okay," but then he saw Zou Xunjing suddenly stride away.
His back turned hastily, without him even turning around.
Zou Xunjing rushed out of the hall and almost bumped into Guan Yan, who was late.
Chu Lin reached out and blocked the way: "Hey? Young master, watch where you're going."
"I'm sorry," Zou Xunjing said before leaving.
Guan Yan was surprised. Wasn't this the one from the Zou family?
When Guan Yan went in, the scene had already returned to normal.
"Who did Zou Xunjing have a conflict with?" Guan Yan asked Pei Wu.
Why do you say that?
“He seemed very flustered just now, and his steps were unsteady,” Guan Yan said. “His pheromones were emanating from him, and he smelled of bamboo, giving off a very chaotic feeling.”
Pei Wu glanced at Lan Zhe beside her and said in a low voice, "I didn't notice, he might be feeling unwell."
"Oh." Guan Yan didn't dwell on it.
While the two were talking, Chu Lin had somehow joined the group of people chatting next door. Standing with a group of CEOs, he was just as impressive as they were. His growth was truly remarkable. His face, which was slightly more youthful than the average person's, had suddenly gained a firm and steady demeanor.
Chu Lin then shared drinks with one of his business partners, appearing relaxed and at ease.
“Sure,” Pei Wu said softly.
"Hmm," Guan Yan replied, "Maybe I'll be able to take a break in a few years."
"I heard you're getting your marriage certificate at the end of the year?"
"right."
Guan Yan smiled as he mentioned this, but his tone remained firm: "Actually, it doesn't matter whether you accept it or not, but Chu Lin insists on this."
"Yes, yes, only Chu Lin wants it."
Guan Yan snorted, "Don't you know how good he is at handling things now? I remember when we first met, he was just a reckless and ignorant fool, completely clueless about human relationships. Now he can make my parents so happy with just a few words. See his brooch? My mom took a picture of it especially for him. I don't even get that kind of treatment."
"You can't do a 360-degree street dance to take pictures of me."
Guan Yan choked up, then said, "Okay."
Someone once said that Guan Yan was spoiling Chu Lin so much that he would only realize how powerful Chu Lin was when the Guan family's assets were all seized and he, an Omega, was kicked out of the house. Guan Yan dismissed this as nonsense.
Occasionally, a whisper would drift into Chu Lin's ear, and he would remain silent for a moment, then continue to do better each day.
Chu Lin never coveted a single penny from Guan Yan.
He only wants this person.
