Chapter 9 The Cheating Person

Chapter 9 The Cheating Person

The neon lights of the hair salon were particularly glaring before dawn. The characters "hong lang mei" (Red Romance) were missing the radical "man" (Man), resembling a toothless mouth, gleaming an eerie red light in the cold wind. Behind the yellowed curtain, Qin Jun lay sprawled on a greasy single bed, a pair of hands painted with scarlet nail polish kneading his neck, their knuckles white with a firmness that betrayed a hint of impatience. "Oh, Xiaolian, your waist is so fucking amazing!" Qin Jun's hand slid down the shampoo girl's waistline, his rough fingertips caressing the skin beneath the thin fabric. With a crisp "snap," Xiaolian slapped his hand away. "Brother Qin," she pouts, shrinking back, the crow's feet at the corners of her eyes raking a few gullies through her cheap foundation. "If you do that again, don't come back next time." Qin Jun buried his face in the sweat-smelling pillow and chuckled, the tattoo on his shoulder trembling with his muscles. "Hey, are you willing to do that?" He suddenly looked up, grabbed the woman's waist, and pulled her toward him. "Next time, I'll bring my brothers to show my support..." "Brother Qin, you'll keep your word." The woman's voice was soft and alluring, like a hook coated in honey. Qin Jun raised his head with a playful smile, his hand once again slyly reaching under her clothes. "Brother Qin, when have I ever lied to you? But you have to let me..." Before he could finish his words, the glass door of the hair salon was flung open. A cold wind swept in, carrying snowflakes, causing the curtains to shake violently. Qin Jun shuddered, goose bumps forming on the back of his exposed neck. "Who the hell—" He stopped mid-sentence, as if a thought had occurred to him. His right hand quietly reached under the pillow. Five dark figures blocked the doorway. The man in the front stood tall and straight like a pine tree, his brows strong and his eyes sharp. His black jacket was stained with unmelted snow, slowly soaking into dark stains in the warm air. This momentum instantly stunned the two men, leaving them frozen in place. "Please, are you here to wash my hair or..." Xiaolian's voice was like a chicken being strangled. Lu Chao flashed his ID, the metal badge gleaming coldly under the neon lights. "Criminal police." He stepped aside to make way. "This is our Captain Yu." "Criminal..." Xiaolian's voice trembled like fallen leaves in the autumn wind, her eyes frantically turning to the man on the bed. The flesh on Qin Jun's face suddenly twitched, like a toad pricked by a needle. The switchblade slipped from his fingers, and before it fell to the ground, he kicked it under the bed. He stood up on his knees, a forced smile twisting the scar on his left cheek into a centipede-like shape. "Captain Yu! I've heard so much about you..." Yu Hao's eyes swept across the bed...

The neon lights of the hair salons were particularly glaring before dawn. The three characters "hong langman" (Red Romance) were missing the radical "man" (Man), resembling a toothless mouth, flickering an eerie red light in the cold wind.

Behind the yellowed curtain, Qin Jun was lying on a greasy single bed, a pair of hands with scarlet nail polish kneading his neck, the white knuckles revealing a bit of impatience.

"Oh, Xiaolian, your waist is so damn strong!" Qin Jun's hand slid down along the shampoo girl's waistline, and his rough fingertips caressed the skin under the thin clothes.

With a crisp "snap," Xiaolian slapped his hand away. "Brother Qin," she said coquettishly, shrinking back. The crow's feet at the corners of her eyes squeezed out a few ravines on the cheap foundation. "If you do this again, don't come next time."

Qin Jun buried his face in the sweat-smelling pillow and laughed muffledly, the tattoo on his shoulder trembling with his muscles.

"Hey, are you willing to do that?" He suddenly looked up, put his arm around the woman's waist and brought her to his side, "Next time I'll bring my brothers to show my support..."

"Brother Qin, you must do what you say." The woman's voice was soft and charming, like a hook coated with honey.

Qin Jun raised his head with a playful smile, and his hand reached directly into her clothes dishonestly, "Brother Qin, when have I ever lied to you? But you have to let me..."

Before he could finish his words, the glass door of the hair salon was flung open. A cold wind blew in, carrying snow particles with it, causing the curtains to shake violently.

Qin Jun shuddered, and goose bumps instantly appeared on the back of his exposed neck.

"Who the hell is this——" He suddenly fell silent in the middle of cursing, as if he had thought of something, and his right hand quietly reached under the pillow.

Five dark figures blocked the doorway. The man in front stood tall and straight, like a pine tree, with strong brows and sharp eyes. His black jacket was stained with unmelted snow, which slowly soaked into dark spots in the warm air.

This momentum immediately shocked the two of them to the spot, motionless.

"Please, would you like me to wash my hair or..." Xiaolian's voice sounded like a chicken with its neck strangled.

Lu Chao flashed his ID, the metal badge gleaming coldly under the neon lights. "Criminal police," he said, stepping aside. "This is our Captain Yu."

"Xing..." Xiaolian's voice trembled like a fallen leaf in the autumn wind, and her eyes turned hurriedly to the man on the bed.

The flesh on Qin Jun's face suddenly twitched, like a toad pricked by a needle. The switchblade slipped from his fingers and fell to the ground, where he kicked it under the bed.

He stood up on his knees, his forced smile twisting the scar on his left cheek into a centipede shape. "Captain Yu! I've heard so much about you..."

Yu Hao's eyes swept across the stains on the bed sheet, and finally fixed on Qin Jun's face. He gave a terrifyingly calm look, like a butcher looking at pigs and sheep to be slaughtered.

"Take him away." Yu Hao turned around.

Lu Chao rushed forward. Qin Jun suddenly jumped up, knocking over the bedside table and rushing towards the side door.

The metal bracket crashed to the ground with a loud thud. Lu Chao stretched out his leg and tripped Qin Jun, sending him plummeting like a sack of potatoes. As the knee pressed down on his back, a distinct "crack" made Xiaolian, who was standing beside him, cover her mouth.

"Be gentle! I want to complain—" Qin Jun's curses were suppressed by Lu Chao into the dirty carpet.

Yu Hao squatted down, grabbed his hair, and forced the distorted face to turn towards him. "Do you know Wang Shun?" Yu Hao's voice was very soft, as if he was discussing the weather.

Qin Jun's pupils suddenly contracted.

*

The origin of this scene dates back to six o'clock in the morning today, when the sky of Qindao was still immersed in inky darkness.

After a sleepless night, Yu Hao rubbed his face vigorously with cold water. The man in the mirror had bloodshot eyes and the stubble on his chin pricked his hands like needles.

The clues I tracked down last night swirled in my mind like a school of restless fish.

The phone suddenly vibrated, and Zhang Min's name popped up on the screen. Yu Hao shook the water off his hands and pressed the speaker button.

"Captain Yu, there's something wrong with Li Rong's ticket!" Zhang Min's voice was filled with suppressed excitement. "She bought tickets for the same train on January 22nd and 23rd, but the surveillance footage shows she arrived at Qindao North Station on the 22nd."

With a beep, the other party sent a picture.

Yu Hao picked up his phone. The woman on the screen, wearing her expensive down jacket, was being held by a man in a black cotton-padded jacket as he walked out of the station. The scar on the man's face, running from his brow to his cheekbone, was particularly striking.

"Qin Jun, 38, from Yanhai City, from the same village as Wang Shun." Zhang Min's voice came through the phone's speaker. "Three years ago, he was prosecuted for intentional injury and collecting protection money. According to an informant, he's still engaging in these illegal activities."

Yu Hao's anger over the incident of Huangmao collecting protection money yesterday has not yet subsided, and he has arranged for people in the team to deal with it.

Unexpectedly, I met such a person again during the case investigation, and a fire suddenly ignited in my heart.

He grabbed the coat from the hanger. The cashmere material seemed to still carry the chill of last night. "Take it back to the bureau."

"But Captain Yu," Zhang Min hesitated, "there's no direct evidence linking him to the murder. Would arresting him like this..."

"There will be." Yu Hao interrupted her, his voice full of unquestionable firmness.

With a "bang", the door was slammed shut.

*

The interrogation room seemed to be air-conditioned, which made the thinly dressed Qin Jun shiver even more, and his legs kept hitting the iron chair.

"Why are you arresting me?" Lu Chao couldn't remember how many times Qin Yu had repeated this question.

He did not answer, but stared coldly at Qin Jun, while Liu Kai sat beside him and took notes.

Yu Hao leaned against the observation window and stared at the interrogation room through the one-way glass.

Seeing that his momentum was weakening, Lu Chao suddenly slammed the table and stood up, "Why did we arrest you? Don't you have any idea?"

"How many times have I told you? I do know Wang Shun, we are from the same village, but what does his death have to do with me?" Qin Jun, just like when he was first sent to the interrogation room, tried his best to deny that he had anything to do with Wang Shun's death.

"It's okay? Why are you running?" Lu Chao asked sternly.

"I... I thought... I just wanted to run away." Qin Jun couldn't come up with a reason for a long time. The scar on his face trembled back and forth like a maggot.

Lu Chao glared at him, walked out of the interrogation table, took out a few photos from the evidence bag, and placed them in front of him one by one. "Explain?"

Qin Jun glanced at the photos. They were obviously screenshots of videos. Some of them were taken at the station, some at the hotel, and some at the restaurant... One of the people in the photos was himself, and the other was Li Rong. The two of them were holding hands, with ambiguous expressions and intimate behavior.

Lu Chao didn't look at him directly, but just paced back and forth beside him, "What's going on?"

Qin Jun slowly raised his head, rolled his eyes, and smiled reluctantly, "Oh, isn't it because Wang Shun is busy and asked me to pick up his wife? Besides, we are from the same village, and he usually takes good care of her."

"So you took care of the bed?" Lu Chao threw another photo fiercely, hitting him in the face. Qin Jun was startled, bent down to pick it up, and stood there in a daze.

The photo is also a screenshot of surveillance video, but the surveillance location is a hotel room, and two people are naked and doing unspeakable things.

Lu Chao sneered, "It's your bad luck that you ended up staying in this shady place."

Just when Qin Jun wanted to explain himself again, a switchblade was thrown in front of him.

"Controlled knives." Lu Chao slammed the table, losing his patience. "Based on this alone, I can detain you for ten days without any hesitation. Do I even need to check your kennel?"

Qin Jun finally panicked, lowered his head, and after a moment, he lost his temper. He slowly said, "Ask..." When he raised his head again, the last bit of light in his eyes had disappeared.

"Why would it be so hard if you had done this earlier?" Lu Chao complained, sitting back at the interrogation table and looking at Qin Jun.

According to Qin Jun's confession, he and Li Rong had already developed a romantic relationship when they were in the village. It was also to better be with Li Rong that he brought Wang Shun to Qindao. Before his death, he worked at a construction company called Hai'an.

When asked if he had heard that his boss had given him a bonus of 50,000 yuan, Qin Jun shook his head like a rattle, saying that he had never heard of it and had not heard Li Rong mention it.

"Where were you between 7 and 8 pm on January 23rd?"

"How many times have I told you?" Qin Jun's Adam's apple rolled violently. "Li Rong and I were indeed lovers, but Wang Shun's death had nothing to do with me!"

"Whether it matters or not, we will judge for ourselves. You, answer the question." Lu Chao shouted harshly.

Qin Jun hung his head. Seeing that there was no room for negotiation, he sighed, "Aren't you asking questions even though you already know the answer?"

"answer the questions."

"With Li Rong."

"where?"

"Lover's Dam." Qin Jun said slowly, "So your suspicion of me is unreasonable. I have no motive to kill Wang Shun. His wife and I are just pure and true love."

Liu Kai couldn't help but raise his head and laughed out loud, "Do you want to listen to what you just said?"

"What are you laughing at? You police officer, what are you laughing at?" Qin Jun suddenly shouted in dissatisfaction, pointing his finger at Liu Kai, "I want to complain about him, I want to complain about him."

Lu Chao gave Liu Kai a look, signaling him to shut up. Liu Kai smiled and lowered his head.

"You policemen can't be so disrespectful, can you?" Qin Jun muttered, with an indignant look on his face.

"Shut up." Lu Chao slapped the table.

Qin Jun withdrew his gaze from Liu Kai, obviously this man had violated his feelings.

"Do you have anything else to say about Wang Shun?"

"Government, I really have nothing to explain. I just fell in love with a married woman, that's all. I'm still a poor man." Qin Jun showed a helpless expression.

Lu Chao ignored him and said, "We will verify what you said, but in the meantime, it's safer for you to stay in the police station." He waved his hand and two policemen came forward.

"Why are you doing this? I've confessed everything. Why are you locking me up? It's not a crime to fall in love with someone. We are truly in love." Qin Jun struggled and was taken away to the interrogation room.

Liu Kai burst out laughing.

"Be serious. What professionalism?"

"Team leader, don't you think it's funny?" Liu Kai stood up and put away the records.

"Indeed, a little bit." Lu Chao curled his lips, turned around and walked out of the interrogation room.
