The next day.
Tang Ling carefully pulled Su Ying up the mountain. Su Ying looked bewildered. "Aren't we supposed to be working in the fields to earn work points? Why are we going up the mountain? Are there fields up there? I've never seen farming on a mountain before. This is quite an eye-opener."
Tang Ling was always willing to answer any request, especially towards Su Ying, whom she doted on and was willing to answer any question she asked.
"The village is called Willow Village because its arable land area is relatively small. The brigade leader has already given a solution a few days ago."
“Liushu Village has little arable land but a large population. If we don’t find a way to be self-sufficient, we will all go hungry. Today, we’ve gathered everyone up the mountain to cut down trees, and we’ll count them all as full centimeters.”
Su Ying asked in surprise, "Cut down trees? What trees are you cutting down? Is the brigade leader an idiot? Why cut down trees when there are trees? It would be more practical to think of ways to generate income."
“I overheard some of the educated youth at the settlement talking about this last night. There are endless yellow peach trees on the mountain, and I heard they’re ripe now. Wouldn’t it be better to just pick the peaches and sell them at the supply and marketing cooperative to get money for grain? It’s better than cutting them down. What should we do with all those yellow peaches?”
"Just cut them down. Just abandon the yellow peaches on the tree."
"What!"
So surprised was Su Ying that her voice was unusually loud, causing Gu Sinian, who was following closely behind, to have his heart skip a beat, thinking that something had happened to Su Ying.
"What's wrong?"
Gu Sinian wanted to go forward and ask what was going on, but Sun Xuelin pulled him back.
"Calm down. Calm down. Comrade Su is fine. If she were in trouble, those male educated youths who were eyeing her would have already come to her rescue. It wouldn't be your turn. You were just too surprised by something and raised your voice a little bit. Is it necessary to panic like this?"

"You assigned me to Su Ying's group; I need to protect her."
Sun Xuelin looked helpless. "It's just cutting down a tree, is it really necessary to follow me so closely? People in love are all fools."
“It’s necessary. She’s been pampered since she was little and has never done any of this kind of work before. I’m afraid something might happen.”
"Boring. With so many people watching, what kind of accident could happen? Isn't Tang Ling following her closely?"
He was only at ease with Tang Ling by his side.
He humiliated Qiao Xiyan so much last night; given her past behavior, she's bound to get her revenge.
Her vindictive nature was well-known in the military compound.
The fear is that if she attacks Su Ying, Su Ying will be powerless to fight back and will be no match for Qiao Xiyan.
Moreover, Qiao Xiyan had been fighting with the boys in the military compound for territory since she was a child, and they fought fiercely every day. She was quite adept at those fighting and killing things.

Gu Sinian patted Sun Xuelin's chest with the back of his hand, "Good brother, I'll take you into the mountains next time."

Gu Sinian patted him on the shoulder to comfort him, "The hard times will eventually pass."
"That's all we can do. What else can we do? We often go hungry. We don't even dare to have a daughter. When will this miserable life of not having enough to eat end?"
When they arrived at their destination, Su Ying exclaimed in surprise at the sight of yellow peaches covering the mountains and fields.
"These big, plump yellow peaches look so appetizing, they make my mouth water."
He picked one, wiped it, and put it directly into his mouth. "Wait!"
Gu Sinian's voice stopped abruptly. Su Ying had already taken a bite, but quickly spat it out.
"What is this? It looks so golden and appetizing, but it's so sour! It's making my teeth ache."
Gu Sinian looked helpless. He had tried his best to stop her, but the little girl was too quick. She didn't even ask if it was tasty. She picked one, wiped it, and ate it right away. Who could he blame?
"I was just about to speak up to remind you, but you were not only quick with your hands, you were even faster with your mouth."
Tang Ling covered her mouth and chuckled, "I was just about to stop you, but you were so quick. Before I could even say anything, you opened your mouth wide and took a bite."
"Are you stupid? Out of so many of us educated youth villagers, why was it that only you picked these yellow peaches while everyone else didn't? Didn't you ever think there was something fishy about these yellow peaches?"
Su Ying shook her head. "I thought these yellow peaches would be similar to the ones I eat at home. I didn't expect such big, plump yellow peaches to be sour. It's such a waste to waste such big yellow peaches."
Tang Ling sighed, "Who says otherwise? Such good yellow peaches won't be available after today."
"Why?"
"Because it is acidic, it has no reason to exist."
Su Ying glanced over and pointed to the yellow peaches on the other side, "Are those yellow peaches over there just as sour?"
"Of course. If they were sweet, would there still be any yellow peaches left? The villagers would have picked them long ago to fill their stomachs."
