When Gu Yuanhong and Li Yaxian found out that Gu Sinian had secretly gone to the People's Commune to get their marriage certificate without telling them, they were so angry they were practically fuming.
Gu Yuanhong paced angrily back and forth in the dilapidated living room, glancing at the door every now and then, wondering when that brat would come back.
He needs to find out what happened. Such a big thing as getting a marriage certificate was done without even being informed. They didn't even bring the child back for them to see, and just went ahead and got married on their own. Now that the child has grown up, they can't control him anymore.
Li Yaxian, the most impatient of them all, angrily shouted, "Why haven't they arrived yet? Did they die out there? What's so good about that vixen that she's worth him doing this without consulting me first?"
"They didn't even inform us before going directly to the brigade leader to get a certificate and going to the people's commune to get their marriage certificate. Do they still consider us their parents?"
"I'm so angry, so angry!" Li Yaxian stood up and stomped her feet in the living room, looking every bit like a shrew.
Gu Yuanhong had never seen his wife so angry before. It seemed that she was quite upset that her son hadn't been informed of his wedding.

Li Yaxian was furious at the thought of losing her obedient daughter-in-law and her unfilial son finding her a capitalist whose social standing was even worse than theirs.
“He dares to openly marry a capitalist’s daughter, so why should I care about class background? Is there anyone with a worse class background than a capitalist’s daughter? If this woman enters the family, will our Gu family still have a way to survive?”
"Knowing full well that her family background is problematic, she still tried to seduce our Si Nian. What was she thinking?"

Gu Yuanming and Qian Huiru looked at each other, their eyes filled with mocking smiles.
They're happy as long as the first wife isn't doing well.
Not satisfied with the fire being big enough, he came over and added more. "This Si Nian is really clueless. He knows perfectly well how difficult life is for our Gu family in Willow Tree Village."
"He turned around and abandoned his perfectly respectable bride, marrying a capitalist instead. Isn't he deliberately trying to ruin our lives? Our Gu family may never have a chance to turn things around again."
Li Yaxian gets angry whenever this is mentioned, so angry that her whole body aches and she can barely stand.
