Chapter 248 Love Ends in This Life

The sky was just beginning to lighten, and the light was dim and faint.

The wind swept in through the slightly ajar window, howling freely into the warm and fragrant room.

Before her, the light from the glass lamps flickered in the wind, the light beams reflecting off the golden walls of the palace like a dream, and also reflecting off Yu Qianqian's embroidered phoenix robe, which was as red as fire. The man in front of her was tall and elegant, with a delicate and three-dimensional face, as handsome as ever.

But now, in her eyes, that face was so unbearable to look at that, and with each glance, the hatred in her heart would deepen.

Suddenly she turned around and closed her eyes and ears, but Mu Beichen hugged her tightly from behind. His warm breath wafted over her ear, deep and penetrating her bones.

“Qianqian, I know you were greatly disappointed by how we handled Su Ruan’s matter, but I never expected her to harm your incense. I was always thinking about how to eliminate potential threats, but I neglected you and the child. I’m sorry…” He whispered in Yu Qianqian’s ear, his deep voice slowly uttering, “Little Qian’er, turn around and look at me, okay?”

"Your Majesty, why must you come to this?" Yu Qianqian saw the shadows that were tightly intertwined through the window, and she looked at him and suddenly smiled. "There are countless women in the world, you don't need to waste your precious time on a Yu Qianqian."

"I know I am without talent or virtue, and I am ashamed to have failed Your Majesty's favor over the years. Today I demean myself as a commoner and bid you farewell. From now on, we owe each other nothing."

She closed her eyes in sorrow, then slowly opened them again after a moment. Yu Qianqian covered Mu Beichen's hand with her ten fingers, prying them apart one by one. Then she turned around and removed her phoenix robe and crown in front of him, revealing a snow-white dress and her long black hair flowing like smoke.

"Yu Qianqian, I forbid you to leave Fengyi Palace even a step!"

Mu Beichen stood rooted to the spot, his mind still unsettled. He suddenly realized that the person in front of him had already walked away. He wanted to chase after her and stop her, but before he could even take a step, the familiar figure disappeared from his sight in the distance.

Mu Beichen's face was ashen. He strode to the door and shouted furiously, "Guards! Guards! Bring the Empress back to me immediately!"

Upon hearing the commotion, the palace maids and eunuchs guarding the gate lined up and then ran out of Mu Beichen's sight without hesitation, rushing towards the palace gates.

As dawn broke, Yu Qianqian emerged from the palace, avoiding Mu Beichen's spies along the way, and aimlessly fled from the long street to the mountain path.

Before me lies a vast, boundless forest, stretching for thousands of miles, uninhabited. A winding river meanders along the foot of the mountains, flowing to the rugged rocks in the far distance, where a giant wave surges upstream.

Yu Qianqian lay sprawled deep in the valley, gazing at the clear sky, a hint of weariness in her eyes, before drifting into a deep sleep without realizing it.

In her dream, she vaguely saw a man in green robes with white hair slowly walking towards her. His face was indistinct in the hazy smoke, making it impossible for her to see him clearly. But just seeing that figure made her heart ache for no reason.

She continued walking forward in a state of confusion, getting closer step by step. The man's face was still blurry. Just as she was about to ask him who he was, she suddenly heard the man's voice in her ear: "Qianqian, I'm back. Don't be afraid of any pain. I'll take your pain for you."

His gentle voice, tinged with a hint of hoarseness, resonated in my ears and penetrated deep into my soul.

"Who...who is speaking?" Yu Qianqian shuddered and immediately woke up from her dream. She looked at herself in astonishment as her white clothes were soaked with cold sweat. Her panicked and confused emotions could not be calmed for a long time.
