It was nearly midnight, and the lights in the vast Prince Jing's mansion had gradually been extinguished, except for Feiyu Courtyard, which was still brightly lit.
Mu Beichen sat alone in the room, his long, straight black hair still casually draped over his body. The candlelight in front of him flickered, casting a few faint rays of light, which made his handsome face even more mysterious and unpredictable, making it difficult to fathom the subtle expressions on his face, whether they were joy or sorrow.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, staring intently at the rose gold hairpin in his hand, lost in thought for a long time. Unconsciously, every smile, every gesture of Feng Jin flooded into his mind. Every time he returned home, she would be overjoyed and laugh. Sometimes she would be annoyed with him and throw tantrums. She would act coquettishly and roll around with him because of jealousy... Everything seemed like yesterday, clearly imprinted deep in his mind.
But in reality, he knew in his heart that Feng Jin wouldn't do anything with Su Yu behind his back. The reason they argued so often over these things was simply because both of them were sticking to their pride and stubbornly refusing to back down.
He had always prided himself on being meticulous and adept at discerning others' intentions from their emotions, but he never expected that a trivial matter would escalate into this situation, which was completely unexpected.
He took a deep breath, placed the hairpin aside, stared blankly at the flickering candlelight before him, and slowly closed his eyes...
At this moment, the dungeon was pitch black. At the end of the narrow and dark passage, several figures gradually walked out. As they approached the cell door, the two servants who had been leading Su Ruan backed away.
"Clang..."
In the still of the night, the sound of the prison door being slammed and shaken was particularly jarring. Feng Jin was instantly jolted awake from her daze. Looking up, she saw Su Ruan walking gracefully towards her in a bright red, tight-fitting dress.
In the dim candlelight, Su Ruan's graceful and delicate figure was faintly reflected. Her fair and rosy face revealed a cold smile. She looked directly into Feng Jin's eyes and glanced at him with a contemptuous look.
Su Ruan slightly raised the corners of her lips and asked in a sweet voice, "How is it, Sister Feng Jin? Are you getting used to this place?"
"Thanks to you, I'm living a very carefree life." Feng Jin casually flicked the shackles on her wrists, feigning ease, and chuckled lightly: "You know you're afraid I'll be lonely, so you let cockroaches and rats keep me company every day. Also, I've been worried about gaining weight from overeating lately, so you specially changed my three meals a day to diet meals... Su Ruan, tell me, shouldn't I thank you properly?"
Seeing her sarcastic attitude, Su Ruan gritted her teeth and her eyes immediately became sharp. She had originally planned to take advantage of her downfall to ridicule her, but unexpectedly, she was the one who was provoked first.
"Hmph! I didn't expect you to be so stubborn even in this state!" Her eyes blazed with fire, her face filled with hatred, and her tone was sharp as a knife: "Feng Jin, you seduced my brother behind the prince's back. This time, the prince won't be soft-hearted towards you anymore. You'd better give up now!"
Feng Jin glanced at her and smiled faintly: "Even if I've fallen to this state, it's still better than you, the third party who makes him feel nothing and has no presence, right? Whether he's sad and disappointed or excited and happy, it's all because of me."
Feng Jin's words, spoken unintentionally, pierced Su Ruan's heart like sharp blades. As she finished speaking, her anger intensified, and she immediately poured out her heart: "What do you know? The bond between me and the Prince is unparalleled! Ten years ago, I saved his life in a foreign land, and he promised me that if he ever returned to his hometown and rose to fame, he would certainly not mistreat me."
"Kindness will be repaid one day. Are you sure you can grow old with him?" Feng Jin looked at her indifferently, his tone calm and indifferent: "Su Ruan, stop deceiving yourself. If he were really that good to you, would you have time to come to this godforsaken place and waste your breath on me?"
"You!" Su Ruan suddenly strode forward, forcefully grabbing her chin with one hand, and was about to slap her with the other when she saw the other's expression change drastically, and her sharp gaze hit her eyes, causing her to involuntarily stop her movements.
Feng Jin's eyes flashed with a cold light, but her face held a slight smile.
"Don't think I don't know that you came to me just to make me give up on Mu Beichen, right?"
Hearing this, Su Ruan immediately smiled knowingly: "Since we're all sensible people, I don't need to beat around the bush with you. Feng Jin, I can let you go, but you must promise me that you will never appear in front of Mu Beichen in this lifetime!"
A thought struck her, and she looked up at Su Ruan again, replying without hesitation, "Heh...just what I wanted!"
Su Ruan bent down and deftly unlocked the chains on Feng Jin's body. Aiming at the figure that quickly disappeared into the night, she shot a strange look into it.
In the pitch-black night, Feng Jin's slender figure was completely swallowed up. There was no need for her to deliberately hide her face; no one could see her at all.
Relying on her familiarity with the terrain from her memory, Feng Jin quickly found the way to the gate of the Prince's mansion. As she approached the gate, she picked up two stones and threw them at the two blurry figures in front of her as a feint. As she expected, the guards at the gate ran away to look for the people the moment they were attacked.
She took advantage of the chaos and hurriedly ran out. When she felt that the people from the Prince Jing's Mansion could not catch up, she sighed and looked up at the sky. She found an open space and sat down cross-legged.
