Chapter Seventy-Three: Why Need a Man?

Fearing that Mu Beichen might change his mind, Su Ruan followed him to the northern part of the city to find where Feng Jin was living in seclusion.

Meanwhile, Su Yu had already arrived at Youlan Valley. He vaguely heard a clear and cheerful laugh coming from the crisscrossing mountain streams on the opposite side. He looked up and saw a place that looked like a paradise, with peach blossoms blooming everywhere. A small figure was gently swaying on a swing in the forest. With each rise and fall, her black hair and clothes fluttered in the wind, and her clear and bright eyes were filled with a gentle smile. Looking at her from afar, she really looked like a fairy descended from heaven.

Unconsciously, as he gazed at her, his eyes grew increasingly unfocused, and for a fleeting moment, it seemed as if a dazzling ray of light passed between them.

"Su Yu?"

Seeing him standing there lost in thought from afar, Feng Jin gently raised her eyebrows, a lively smile quickly spreading across her lips. With a leap, she gracefully jumped off the swing, silently circled behind him, and feigned anger as she slapped his shoulder, exclaiming sweetly, "Well, you! You actually hid here spying on me! You, the noble Crown Prince, really know how to bring honor to your Jiang Lan Kingdom!"

Leaning forward slightly, Su Yu raised an eyebrow and smiled knowingly: "Peeping? I never do anything shady. Even if I like to watch... I'll only watch openly and honestly."

He's really something, to be able to talk about his shamelessness so openly! Feng Jin turned her head and rolled her eyes at him. As expected of a prince and grandson of the emperor with impeccable lineage, he had already fully demonstrated his talent for treating all three thousand concubines equally before inheriting the throne. Someone like her, a mere mortal, was truly no match for him.

He paused slightly, then added, "I was worried that you would fall ill because of your heartbreak, but seeing you so lively and energetic, you don't seem like a patient at all."

"Thank you for your concern. I've always been a rough person and I don't get sick easily." Feng Jin looked at the distant lake and peaks, her eyes suddenly brightening. She smiled slightly and said, "I think it's very quiet here, and the air is fresh. It would be nice if I could live this leisurely life forever."

“What’s so good about a poor, desolate place like this? How about… you come back with me and take a look? If you’re satisfied with the customs and culture of our Jianglan Kingdom, how about becoming my Crown Princess?” Su Yu looked at her with starlight in her eyes, her gaze firm, as if she was patiently waiting for her to answer her question.

After a long pause, Feng Jin suddenly smiled at him and said, "What's the point of being the Crown Princess? If I had the chance to choose, I would still prefer to be the Empress, the mother of the nation."

As she finished speaking, a gentle breeze stirred around her, lightly swaying the long trailing hem of Feng Jin's robe. Her slender figure, floating amidst the green hills and clear waters, became even more blurred, making it impossible for Su Yu to catch a glimpse of her expression from within a few inches.

"Ha! So I've been blind all this time, not realizing you had such big ambitions." Su Yu leaned forward slightly, meeting Feng Jin's bright eyes, his laughter growing louder. "If it were an ordinary man, he really wouldn't dare to take you so easily!"

"I can seize the throne by myself, why should I need a man's help?" Feng Jin casually tossed her hair, and a bright smile bloomed on her pretty face again. Her words, which had just fallen, faded away with a series of light, fleeting shadows behind her.

Suddenly, he flashed away, and Su Yu followed relentlessly, calling out his name through the dappled shadows of the trees in her field of vision.

"Hey, hey, hey—think it over again, and see what I, the future Son of Heaven, are like..."
