Chapter 159 I Hate You So Much
Outside the palace gate, the palace servants who were waiting all retreated two zhang away, not daring to disturb the two masters inside.
It's quite strange, really. His Majesty bestowed titles upon the harem at the New Year's Eve banquet, and the Empress was even promoted to the rank of Imperial Concubine. Logically speaking, the two should have a very good relationship, but why does it feel like something is not quite right?
He muttered a few words to himself, then glanced furtively into the hall, but could see nothing.
Inside the hall, Lan Wu waited for Chu Mingheng's reaction. As soon as she raised her head, her cheeks were pinched. The flesh on her cheeks felt like soft dough, and Chu Mingheng pinched them in his hands, but it didn't hurt.
Chu Mingheng's expression was hardly kind; in Lan Wu's eyes, it even carried a hint of impending fury.
Lan Wu, not to be outdone, stared straight at him with wide eyes, as if to say that she was right.
"Didn't I say I'd think about it? I didn't say I wouldn't agree. Why are you trying to shut me up with these words?" Chu Mingheng finally lost his temper. He pinched Lan Wu's face a little harder, then let go and tapped her forehead with his finger. "You dare to force me to make a decision? You're really not afraid of me anymore."
Lan Wu touched her face, finally seeing the key point in his words and realizing she had found a way out. She quickly asked, "Are you going to say yes?"
Chu Mingheng turned away again and didn't answer.
“Say something.” Lan Wu followed him, grabbed his sleeve and stood in front of him, gently analyzing the pros and cons with him. “It’s only three months. I’ll be back immediately after three months and won’t stay any longer. In exchange for your good health, I think it’s worth it.”
Chu Mingheng glanced at her, but remained silent.
"How could you do this... you're going to keep your mouth shut after you've already said it." Lan Wu was a little annoyed. Seeing that Chu Mingheng was about to turn away from her again, she got anxious and wrapped her arms around his neck, clinging to him. "Tell me quickly, or I won't get down."
Since she had come to him of her own accord, how could Chu Mingheng refuse? He simply lifted Lan Wu by her hips, supporting her lower back with one hand, and carried her towards the inner palace.
"Your Majesty!" Lan Wu said, somewhat annoyed, and stomped her foot.
Chu Mingheng patted her thigh to tell her not to move.
He simply went into the inner hall to find Lan Wu a suitable outer robe to put on, and then led people to the outer hall behind the curtain.
"Someone, summon the imperial physician."
After Lan Wu was seated on the cushions behind the curtain, she heard Chu Mingheng give an order to the outside.
Lan Wu couldn't help but tug at Chu Mingheng's sleeve and whispered to him, "I'm fine, I was just kidding you, I'm not sick at all."
It was just an excuse to lure Chu Mingheng over, but they actually brought the imperial physician.
"You don't look well. Let the imperial physician take a look." Chu Mingheng didn't easily believe her words and insisted on having the imperial physician come over.
Lan Wu wanted to say something more, but the imperial physician had already entered the hall, so she could only shut her mouth for the time being. When Chu Mingheng told her to extend her hand, she obediently did so.
The hall was quiet for a moment.
Only after the imperial physician had examined the pulse did sound come from inside the palace.
"Your Majesty, the Empress is not ill. She is simply overwhelmed with worry, which has depleted her energy."
"May I ask if Your Majesty has been having trouble sleeping lately?"
Lan Wu noticed Chu Mingheng's gaze, forced herself to nod slightly, and said, "It's just that I drank half a cup of strong tea when I was about to go to sleep yesterday, so I had a little trouble sleeping last night."
"Your Majesty is still young, but if this continues, it may harm your health."
"But things are alright for now. Your Majesty, I will prepare a good prescription to regulate your blood and qi. But the most important thing is for Your Majesty to take it easy and not worry about everything."
After the imperial physician left, Lan Wu saw Chu Mingheng gently place his hand on the table, his fingers tapping silently, conveying an anxiety that even he himself was unaware of.
Lan Wu always knows how to take advantage of opportunities, especially at times like this.
She pushed the book in front of her away, frowning as she said, "Look, it's all because of you. I can't sleep because of your health. I think about you every night, and you don't even appreciate it."
"Fine, just watch and see, you don't care about me anyway..."
Chu Mingheng looked over and cut off her nonsense: "Try talking nonsense again."
Lan Wu pursed her lips, looking down at herself, feeling guilty yet incredibly bold. She slammed her hand on the table and stood up: "If you really cared about me, you definitely wouldn't have left me alone—"
In the end, it all comes down to this matter.
Chu Mingheng closed his eyes, and soon, a warm body rolled over to his side.
He suddenly opened his eyes and pulled Lan Wu into his arms.
Lan Wu didn't even think about escaping. She pressed her forehead against his and painstakingly persuaded him, "Please agree, Your Majesty, I will be fine."
She's already used her body as leverage to force Chu Mingheng to agree, so Chu Mingheng will definitely agree.
He gently stroked her back, running his hand down her long, black hair to her lower back. In silence, he seemed to be thinking about something.
Suddenly he said, "Awu, do you really want to leave me?"
Lan Wu was at her wit's end when she heard him say that. She immediately curled her lips into a cold smile and tried to get off him.
"Let go of me—you're not allowed to hold me anymore!"
Chu Mingheng wouldn't let go, and Lan Wu got angry and yelled at him, reaching out to hit him. However, Chu Mingheng had a well-developed and muscular physique, and when she tried to hit him, she ended up hurting her own hand.
"You're so unreasonable, you bastard!" Lan Wu cursed him, her eyes reddening as she cursed. She clutched his clothes and whispered through gritted teeth, "I've done so much for you and you still say... say I'm thinking about other things... You bastard! Shameless! I hate you so much!"
Chu Mingheng touched her face and anxiously wiped away her tears.
He knew he'd messed up the moment he said those words; he'd said the wrong thing.
But now, even if he tried to touch Lan Wu's face, Lan Wu would quickly slap his hand away and sternly tell him not to touch her.
"Awu, I misspoke. I didn't mean it that way, okay?" Chu Mingheng took her handkerchief to wipe her tears, and seeing the tears streaming down her red eyes, his heart ached.
"Don't hate me, I know A-Wu did it for my own good... Don't cry." Chu Mingheng coaxed her softly, feeling that Lan Wu's tears hadn't stopped for the past few days.
Lan Wu is so worried about his affairs, and he still says these things; it's really inappropriate of him.
But if Lan Wu were to actually go to Changyong Mountain, he would be a thousand times unwilling. Even if he was on high alert and had people protect her tightly, she would still not be by his side, and he could neither see nor touch her. How could he feel at ease?
Instead of peacefully worshipping the gods and Buddhas in the temple, that old monk Huifan came up with such a ridiculous idea. I wonder what his intentions are.
