Chapter 27 Where to Sit
Lan Wu was wearing a light purple dress, and her hair looked like it had been hastily combed up; it wasn't very refined, but it exuded a languid beauty.
Her eyes were like bright stars, gazing at people with a clear, shining light.
Her gaze lingered on the two people sitting in the hall for a moment longer, and she quickly discerned who was the Consort and who was the Beauty.
Seeing that Consort Fang was still sitting in the chair, Lan Wu pouted and walked out.
Chu Mingheng sat in the main seat. Lan Wu looked down and found that the two of them had each occupied the frontmost seats.
She wasn't in a hurry. When she got to Chu Mingheng's side, she touched her forehead and said softly as if she hadn't seen the person below her, "Your Majesty, I feel a little dizzy because I've been sleeping for too long."
Lady He had already stood up to greet her, but was interrupted by her words and could only half-squat, waiting helplessly for Lan Wu to call her to stand up.
Chu Mingheng had already agreed to stay with her, and seeing her constantly playing tricks, he was too lazy to guess what she was up to, and just watched quietly.
Before Lan Wu could utter her next sentence, another voice reached her ears, carrying a natural familiarity. It was quite obvious: "If Consort Zhen is feeling dizzy, why not try drinking water boiled with mint leaves? This is a method we've been using in the palace for a long time; it's very effective at refreshing the mind and improving eyesight."
Chu Mingheng noticed Lan Wu's displeasure. She stood beside him, and upon hearing this, she looked at the person speaking to the side, a smile on her face.
"Fang Jieyu is dizzy too? But I must thank you for your kindness, Fang Jieyu. I hate the smell of mint the most; it makes me feel nauseous..."
"Ah, Consort Fang, please don't overthink it. I didn't mean to say that Consort Fang smells bad."
"However, since Consort Fang often boils mint water in her palace, she should be careful not to let the mint flavor seep into her clothes."
As Lan Wu finished speaking, she saw Fang Jieyu's fingers gripping the armrest of the seat tightly, looking frustrated and wanting to get angry but not daring to.
Consort He, still squatting on the ground, remained silent, pretending not to exist. While inwardly marveling at Consort Zhen's sharp tongue, she also wondered if His Majesty would stand idly by.
Although His Majesty has some affection for Consort Zhen, she has been so blatantly putting others down. Does His Majesty still intend to tolerate her?
His Majesty detests concubines who act coy and flirtatious.
What was unexpected was that His Majesty did speak, but what he said was clearly in favor of Consort Zhen.
"Sit down and rest for a while to calm your nerves."
Lan Wu's eyes darted around as she looked down at the two seats. She reached out and tugged at Chu Mingheng's sleeve. "Your Majesty, look, they're each sitting on one side. Where should I sit?"
Now that he had heard this, Chu Mingheng understood what she was worried about.
It's just a position, why is she clinging to it like this?
Chu Mingheng was about to frown and say something when he saw Lan Wu's fingers gripping his sleeve, holding onto a small piece of fabric tightly. Her eyes were serious yet showed stubbornness and unwillingness.
For some reason, he felt uneasy facing Lan Wu like this.
He composed himself and turned to the two men below, coldly saying, "No manners, get up now."
He Meiren was already squatting, but fortunately she could get up and move to a different position.
Fang Jieyu turned pale and weakly got up and moved to a different spot.
Lan Wu, however, still did not leave.
Her eyes fell on the seat next to Chu Mingheng, her gaze filled with a hint of reluctance.
Chu Mingheng understood her gaze, gently wrapped his fingers around her wrist, and led her from in front of him to the seat next to him: "If you don't want to drink medicine anymore, then sit down obediently for me."
Lan Wu was overjoyed. She thought Chu Mingheng was incredibly perceptive; he knew where she wanted to sit without her even having to say anything.
He just spoke very meanly and threatened her.
"I understand." She feigned shyness but sat down calmly next to Chu Mingheng. Her headache and dizziness had subsided, and she felt refreshed.
A palace maid came and served tea.
Lan Wu then tried to recall the faces of the two people in her mind, but found that she had no recollection of them in either her previous life or this life.
Does that mean these two can't cause any trouble?
Just as she was pondering this, Consort He spoke softly: "I heard from the palace servants that you must be busy since you took over Longyu Pavilion this morning, so Sister Fang and I thought we would come to see you together this afternoon."
"Unexpectedly... His Majesty is also here." She said this much softer, and as she spoke, Consort He secretly glanced at Chu Mingheng before lowering her eyes, looking like she was both reluctant and welcoming.
Lan Wu immediately burst out laughing.
“My sister’s arrival is just in time. Anyone who didn’t know better would think she came at the exact moment. But my sister and I have never met before. When the palace servants told me you were coming, I really thought about it.”
"But I still can't remember."
It's normal that Lan Wu can't remember, after all, she only became a concubine today. The concubines she had met before were either of higher rank or had gained the emperor's favor and were therefore more noticeable.
She practically said that they had come specifically because His Majesty was there.
He Meiren looked embarrassed and said hesitantly in a low voice, "It's alright, it was just the first time I met my sister anyway."
This is our first time meeting...
Before Lan Wu could say anything more, Chu Mingheng tapped the table lightly and shifted his gaze, clearly not wanting Lan Wu to talk nonsense.
Okay, fine, I won't say it then.
She scoffed inwardly, her gaze towards the people below not very friendly. These two had come uninvited and didn't know how long they would stay. They couldn't very well just stay, could they?
If they're not going to leave, then it's better to let Chu Mingheng leave.
Lan Wu sipped her tea, glanced at the sky outside, and thought it was still early.
"Your Majesty, I have heard that many flowers are in bloom in the Imperial Garden at this time of year, and I would like to go and see them."
She really can't stay idle for even a moment.
Chu Mingheng glanced at her indifferently, then suddenly smiled: "Awu wants to go play?"
That's what he asked.
Lan Wu subconsciously felt that there was another meaning behind his words. She had followed Chu Mingheng for a year and had a good foresight regarding the dangerous implication in his words.
So he immediately shook his head and said he wouldn't go.
Unexpectedly, Chu Mingheng had already stood up first and said casually, "Awu is still a little girl, it's normal for her to be playful. Today I will show you some fun."
As Chu Mingheng finished speaking, Lan Wu felt a chill run down her spine.
The last time she felt this way was when she was discovered trying to trip up Consort Shu in her previous life, and Chu Mingheng said he would teach her a lesson.
Lan Wu got up and followed guiltily, still wanting to change her mind, but she saw the two concubines below with happy faces, obviously wanting to go with them.
Forgetting the danger she had just faced, she smiled gently and said joyfully, "Your Majesty is so kind! He only took me to the Imperial Garden!"
