Chapter 24 Imperial Edict
Lan Wu showed no signs of waking up. Even when Chu Mingheng moved her aside, she gently pulled the blanket over herself and turned over to continue sleeping.
Wasn't she a servant? Who raised her to have such pampered habits?
Chu Mingheng got up and went to the outer room separated by a screen. Soon after, someone brought in water to serve him for washing up.
However, when the palace servants entered the hall and saw that only His Majesty was inside, they roughly guessed that the concubine inside had not yet woken up.
Marquis Luo Yun listened to His Majesty's instructions from the side.
"Wake her up when the time comes, and make sure to select the palace servants in her palace carefully." As he said this, Chu Mingheng remembered the red marks on her thighs from last night.
"Take a bottle of Jade Dew Cream and apply it to her."
Luo Yun bowed and replied, "Yes."
Almost half an hour after Chu Mingheng left, Lan Wu woke up on her own.
Luo Yun originally planned to wake her up in a little while, but seeing that she woke up on her own, he ordered someone to come into the palace to help her wash up.
His Majesty's decree was issued before the morning court session, but the imperial edict had not yet been promulgated. Luo Yun still addressed Lan Wu as "Your Highness" after thinking it over.
Lan Wu didn't know exactly what time she fell asleep last night, but she slept very well.
"Your Majesty, His Majesty said that once you wake up, someone will escort you to the Longyu Pavilion."
Hearing the familiar place, Lan Wu nodded – it was indeed still Longyu Pavilion.
Although Chu Mingheng gave her the title of Zhen Jieyu, a Jieyu cannot live in the main hall of Yilan Palace. Although Longyu Pavilion is not large, it is familiar to her.
"And this too, His Majesty instructed me to apply the medicine to Her Highness." Luo Yun took out the bottle of Jade Dew Ointment.
This stuff can not only clear stagnation, but also remove scars. Lan Wu used it a lot in her previous life.
However, she was a little embarrassed to show the area where she was going to apply the medicine, so Lanwu took the Jade Dew Ointment and said she would apply it herself.
Luo Yun didn't say much. He lowered his eyes and led the people outside. They only went back in after Lan Wu had finished applying the medicine and called for help.
Taichen Palace didn't have any suitable clothes for the concubines, but fortunately, Luo Yun had asked the Imperial Clothing Bureau to send over a set of clothes that fit her well.
The palace maids styled Lanwu's hair into a bun, and various hairpins were placed on the table.
"This one, please." Lan Wu picked up one of the silver filigree hairpins inlaid with purple jade, and then selected a few wisteria flower hair ornaments and hairpins, handing them to the palace maid behind her.
Today she was also wearing a light purple brocade dress with a belted waist, paired with purple hair accessories, which made her complexion even more radiant and her eyes bright as pearls, making her exceptionally beautiful.
Lan Wu calmly ate breakfast at Taichen Palace before heading to her own Longyu Pavilion.
Luo Yun followed her there, and they didn't encounter anyone along the way, which Lan Wu found quite a pity.
It seems that since the imperial decree has not yet been issued, everyone in the palace is probably guessing what her rank is.
If they knew that she held the rank of Jieyu and that His Majesty had bestowed upon her the title of 'Zhen', it would probably infuriate quite a few people.
Consort Li, Consort Shu, Beauty Rong... oh, and Consort Liu.
Lan Wu counted them one by one, clicking her tongue twice in admiration.
"Is there anything Your Highness is dissatisfied with? Your Highness only needs to say so, and I will have someone readjust it shortly." The speaker was a head maid among the new palace servants who had entered Longyu Pavilion. Lan Wu had never seen any of these people before.
Looking at the small pond in front of her, Lan Wu snapped out of her reverie, looked at the person who had spoken, and smiled: "No, I'm quite satisfied. It's just that this small pond probably can't hold any big koi, right?"
Lianxi relaxed slightly under her gaze, but belatedly realized what she was saying and quickly perked up, replying, "The pond is a bit small. If Your Highness wishes to release koi, perhaps this servant could have the pond rebuilt to be larger?"
Lan Wu shook her head and glanced at the courtyard. The Longyu Pavilion wasn't very big to begin with, and if the pond were made any bigger, it would be inconvenient to walk around.
"That's fine then. I remember there's also a kind of small koi fish. I'll look for it later." With that, Lan Wu turned around and walked into the Longyu Pavilion.
Her arrival was sudden, and many things in the palace were not prepared. Some of the tables and chairs were old, and the palace servants were busy cleaning and wiping them down. When they saw her come in, they all came out to greet her.
"Get up, all of you." Lan Wu gestured for them to rise, glancing at Lianxi behind her. "Remember to give them a reward today."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
"This servant thanks Your Majesty for your kindness." The palace servants thanked her before getting up to continue their work.
Upon entering the Longyu Pavilion, facing the main entrance is a round, translucent begonia-shaped window. Gauze curtains are drawn on both sides, and the silk fabric between the curtains is almost transparent, reflecting a few colors from outside. Below the window is a low table, which faces the main entrance.
Lan Wu quite liked the window; with it, the room was especially bright on sunny days.
However, since Longyu Pavilion was not yet ready, Lanwu did not go inside. Instead, she wandered around to the outer corridor for shade.
Before she could take more than a few steps, she saw Chen Kang'an arrive with the imperial edict.
Not only was there an imperial edict, but he was also followed by many palace servants, each carrying a tray.
Once the imperial edict is issued, the news should be spread.
After reading the imperial edict, Chen Kang'an smiled ingratiatingly and introduced the items behind him to Lan Wu: "Your Majesty, these were specially selected by His Majesty from the storeroom. This palace carpet is made of the softest material, and these porcelains are the most exquisite. Oh, and the jewelry and clothing materials were also specially ordered by His Majesty to be sent to Your Majesty."
Lan Wu knew Chu Mingheng.
Chen Kang'an's words sounded nice, but in reality, it was just that Chu Mingheng had given the order to send some things to her palace, and his subordinates simply did as he was told.
Chu Mingheng didn't have the leisure to pick out things for her.
Although she thought this way, Lan Wu naturally wouldn't show it.
She feigned surprise and flattery as she looked at these things, took a few steps forward, blushed and speechless, and finally said to Chen Kang'an, "Please thank His Majesty for me."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
There were so many things sent over, and some of them weren't even with Chen Kang'an. Various places in the inner palace also sent things over, and for a time, Longyu Pavilion was bustling with activity.
Compared to the bustling Longyu Pavilion, the detached palace could be described as desolate.
Consort Rong had just vomited blood last night and had been warned by the Emperor. Today, upon hearing that Lan Wu had indeed become the Emperor's concubine, she felt a sense of unease.
"What is his rank?" she asked the maid beside her slowly as she sat up from the couch.
The palace maid glanced at her face and replied with difficulty, "Your Majesty, His Majesty has bestowed upon her the title of Consort Zhen..."
Rong Meiren gasped, suppressing her trembling hands, and asked her again, "Which 'zhen'? Is it the 'zhen' of chastity or—"
"I heard from the palace maid who delivered the gifts that the imperial edict said that Consort Zhen is as precious as a pearl, gentle and bright, and is therefore bestowed the title of Zhen."
Hearing these words, Rong Meiren closed her eyes.
So that's why His Majesty loves her so much.
Her probing yesterday was a bit too hasty.
