Chapter 124: Still Crying

Chapter 124: Still Crying

Lan Wu sat down in a side room not far from the elegant hall. Dan Shan cleaned the wet stains on her sleeves and, seeing that Lan Wu still looked dazed, served her hot tea and gently called her name.

Lan Wu looked over.

"Your Majesty, please have some hot tea to warm yourself up."

Lan Wu lowered her head and remained silent, holding her teacup.

Master Huifan's words were like a thunderclap in her head. Before this, or in her two lifetimes, she had never thought that Chu Mingheng would be in any life-threatening situation. He was the emperor, who held supreme imperial power and managed the court so well that no one dared to object.

But now I hear people say that Chu Mingheng's life may be in danger.

She then realized that Chu Mingheng was just an ordinary person; he needed to take medicine when he was sick and he also had things he couldn't handle.

She had always thought that Chu Mingheng was omnipotent, but no one is omnipotent.

"Your Majesty...?" Danshan suddenly called out to her, a look of panic flashing in her eyes as she stared at her in surprise.

Lan Wu was completely unaware until Dan Shan hurriedly covered her face with a handkerchief and wiped away the tears rolling down her face. Only then did she realize that she had been crying.

Is it panic? Or sadness?

Or perhaps both.

Lan Wu took out a handkerchief and wiped away the tears that were rolling down her face again, shaking her head and saying that she was fine.

"Aunt, you've been in the palace for so many years, do you know Master Huifan?" Lan Wu asked, her tears subsiding slightly.

Danshan didn't know what she was thinking, but when Lanwu asked out of curiosity, she spoke up.

“When Her Majesty the Empress went to Changyong Mountain, I accompanied her. All the monks in Wuji Temple came out to pay their respects to Her Majesty, and Master Huifan was among them.”

Recalling this moment, Shi Danshan couldn't help but think of the late Empress. She had followed the late Empress since childhood, watching her grow up, get married, and be deeply in love with the late Emperor. She had also watched her become pregnant and give birth. She should have had the happiest life, loved by the people, and enjoyed her later years as the current Empress Dowager. But a fire broke out and took her life.

Danshan lowered her eyes, casting aside her thoughts, and continued, "What I know about Master Huifan is what Her Majesty the Empress told me. Master Huifan is a highly accomplished monk. He would appear whenever a new emperor ascended the throne and went to Changyong Mountain to offer sacrifices to Heaven. I've heard that he knows the past and the future, and is connected to the past and present. He is a person of unfathomable wisdom."

"In this day and age, the people are living in peace and happiness, and regard Your Majesty as a wise ruler. Not to mention anything else, just on the day Your Majesty was born on Changyong Mountain, the clouds and rosy clouds opened up. Master Huifan once gave Your Majesty a prophecy. Although we do not know what the prophecy was, we think that the prophecy has now come true."

Lan Wu was slightly taken aback. Since this Master Huifan was so capable, then his statement that His Majesty's life was in danger was certainly not nonsense.

-

The two people sitting opposite each other in the elegant hall seemed unusually silent.

Hui Fan shook his head. He said nothing else, but said to Chu Mingheng, "This humble monk knows no more than Your Majesty. Your Majesty now has an important person in your life. If you are to make any decisions, you should think it over carefully."

"Perhaps Her Majesty will be saddened by this."

Chu Mingheng knew that what he said might be true. He would naturally be cautious with Lan Wu and would not want to make her sad.

Lan Wu and he were destined to be together across two lifetimes, but in her previous life, Lan Wu died alone and in a wretched state. The truths she once told him contained, to varying degrees, resentment towards him from her past life and accusations against him for his cruelty. Although he now has Lan Wu in his arms, the blank and chaotic memories, along with the pain she suffered alone, leave him bewildered and helpless.

Before he met Lan Wu, he often saw her in his dreams, but later the dreams gradually became less frequent, and even when he did dream of her, Lan Wu was nowhere to be seen.

Looking back now, those illusory dreams that followed may have been the suffering he personally experienced in his previous life.

The dream was incomplete, which was both a stroke of luck and a source of resentment. Lan Wu had suffered so much, there was no reason for him to remain uninvolved.

“Since the master is unwilling to speak, I will not force him.”

"But there is only one thing I hope you will speak frankly." Chu Mingheng looked straight at him, his intimidating aura making people feel oppressed, as if hearing a single lie would lead to their demise.

Master Huifan remained calm and slowly replied, "Your Majesty, please speak."

"She is ultimately different from others; will this extra chapter in her life cause any harm to her destiny?"

Master Huifan nodded slightly and said softly, "As this humble monk said, Your Majesty is blessed by Heaven and will live a carefree life."

"Very well, I will remember what you said."

After saying that, Chu Mingheng stood up, straightened his clothes, and said in a low voice, "Master, there is no need to see me off. The weather in the capital is fine these days, and the scenery is beautiful. Since you have already gone to great lengths to come here, you may rest for a while before you leave."

Master Huifan also stood up, showing no surprise at his words. He even smiled and replied, "Yes."

As Chu Mingheng exited the palace gate, he happened to see Lan Wu walking towards him from the other side of the path. Her hood was already on her head, and when he saw her, Lan Wu was walking back and forth on the path with her head down.

"Your Majesty, His Majesty has come out," Danshan reminded Lanwu from the side.

Lan Wu looked up and saw Chu Mingheng walking towards her.

As he drew closer, she instinctively lowered her eyes, took a step, and gently lunged towards him.

"Why didn't you wait in the room?" Chu Mingheng hugged her, reaching out to feel the temperature of her palm. He stopped when he found it wasn't cold. "Don't come out in the wind next time."

"I'm not made of mud, I can't just crack in the wind," Lan Wu retorted, then added, "It's stuffy in the room, so I wanted to come out for a walk."

"Your Majesty, shall we return?"

"Yes, let's go back to the palace." Chu Mingheng nodded slightly and instructed people to prepare to return to the palace.

It wasn't until they left Nanli Temple and got into the carriage that Chu Mingheng noticed Lan Wu had been keeping quiet, her head down and not saying much, as if she was deliberately trying not to attract attention.

"What's wrong? Are you angry because I didn't let you come with me?" Chu Mingheng said, taking Lan Wu's hand in his and warming it in his palm. His voice was gentle and deep. "I came to find you as soon as I came out. I didn't talk to Hui Fan about anything important. I was just worried about your sleeves and afraid you'd be cold."

After exchanging a few words, they realized that Lan Wu's hood was so big and wide that it almost covered half of her face.

He reached out to put it down for her, but Lan Wu suddenly dodged.

"A-Wu?" Chu Mingheng sensed something was wrong, so he gently hooked the brim of Lan Wu's hat, lifted it up, and turned his head to follow Lan Wu's gaze.

Sure enough, I saw her red eyes.

I still cried.
