Chapter 58 Visit
Chen Li didn't know what Lan Wu was thinking, but seeing that she had calmed down, she breathed a sigh of relief.
When Chen Li saw the contents of the medical record, he was also shocked. He immediately closed his eyes, wishing he had never been born. He thought to himself that the Empress was really accurate in her investigations, finding out such a serious matter that could cost him his head.
However, looking around in a panic, he found Physician Xu's actions strange, as if they were intentional.
Even she was arranged by His Majesty to be assigned to Consort Zhen, so it was impossible for Physician Xu's medical case not to be seen by His Majesty, yet it has not caused any stir to this day.
What does this tell us?
This means His Majesty has other plans!
After Chen Li understood this point, he carefully reviewed the medical records again.
"Thank you for troubling me these past few days, Physician Chen. Don't worry, you'll be rewarded handsomely in the future," Lan Wu said softly, but her tone was chilling.
Chen Li's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly interrupted her, smiling respectfully and gently, "Your Majesty, I dare not. It is my honor to be able to help Your Majesty. I have come here today to deliver medicine to Your Majesty."
Upon hearing that word, Lan Wu's mouth started watering. She chuckled twice and said, "Okay."
You can't skip taking your medicine.
Meanwhile, Consort Jia arrived at Qiushui Pavilion.
This was the second time she had seen this personal maid whom His Majesty had specially appointed to take care of Consort Rong.
"What's your name? Tell me."
Consort Jia was not in a hurry to see Consort Rong, but instead was curious about Zhu Xia.
Zhu Xia looked no different from the other palace servants, except that she was a bit more strict, like a nanny who used to teach etiquette in the palace.
However, when replying, he was respectful, and nothing seemed amiss.
"This servant is Zhuxia."
Consort Jia nodded, then suddenly remembered something: "I remember that Consort Rong has a maid named Banxia. Have her come over to serve me tea later, and I'll ask her if she has taken good care of Consort Rong."
Zhu Xia responded with a "yes" and led her into the hall.
In just three days, the foul smell in the hall had completely dissipated, and the small incense burner inside was slowly releasing wisps of fragrance.
Consort Jia immediately spotted Consort Rong, who stood up and bowed to her.
She paused for a moment, then quickly helped the woman up as if nothing had happened: "Sister Rong, please sit down. I have no interest in such formalities with you."
Rong Shuyi was helped up, and after Jia Pin sat down in the seat next to her, she sat down as well.
"How are you feeling now?" Consort Jia looked her over carefully and said slowly, "I see that you have lost a lot of weight."
Rong Shuyi lowered her head slightly and replied, "The imperial physician said that she is fine now."
At this point, she seemed to recall something sad. Her face twitched, and she covered her face with her handkerchief, saying, "It's just that I'm in debt and can't eat, so I've lost some weight."
When Consort Jia saw Banxia bringing tea into the palace, unlike Consort Rong, her face turned pale with fright and she looked even more haggard.
Zhu Xia is not in this hall.
Consort Jia then said, "I just saw the maid His Majesty gave you. She is quite meticulous. His Majesty still cares about you, sister. Otherwise, he wouldn't have bothered to send someone to take care of you."
However, His Majesty has not entered Qiushui Pavilion in the past month.
His Majesty has always been ruthless, but now that there is Consort Zhen, whom he dotes on like a precious treasure, he is an exception.
"My sister is recuperating in the palace, so she should be unaware of what's happening outside. That Consort Zhen is now Consort Zhen."
She told Rong Shuyi, "A few days ago, His Majesty ordered someone to go to Longyu Pavilion to teach Zhen Shuyi manners. The old nanny was rude to Zhen Shuyi, and His Majesty immediately punished her. Zhen Shuyi was wronged, so His Majesty promoted her."
"I'm telling my sister that since His Majesty has said it was an accident, you must not act impulsively when you see her in the future."
Rong Shuyi gripped the armrest of the chair, seemingly fluctuating in emotion because of what she had just said, but she quickly calmed down.
"Thank you for informing me, Your Majesty. I understand."
"I just came to see you today. His Majesty told you to rest and recuperate. Now that you're all better, go out and get some sunshine."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
As Consort Jia walked out of the palace, she turned around and spotted Banxia standing in the hall. She looked at Consort Rong and said, "I have some tonics that I said I would bring to you, but I forgot. Have one of your maids come with me to get them."
Upon hearing this, Rong Shuyi thanked her and then turned around, calling Banxia to go and fetch the things.
Seeing that Consort Jia had walked away, Consort Rong sat back down as if nothing had happened, and Zhu Xia came into the palace to pack her things.
When Banxia arrived at Changying Palace, she heard Consort Jia order someone to fetch something. She wanted to go with them, but Consort Jia stopped her.
"I noticed you've been unusually quiet today. Has something happened lately?" Consort Jia asked her suspiciously.
Banxia immediately shook her head and whispered no.
There were few people outside the palace gate. Consort Jia glanced at Qingrong beside her. Qingrong took off a bracelet from her hand and stuffed it into Banxia's hand: "Our Lady is worried about Consort Shuyi's health. She hasn't seen her for a month. I'm afraid Consort Shuyi is upset and something might happen. Please tell the Lady that Consort Shuyi is still alright."
Banxia nervously pushed the bracelet away, but seeing that she couldn't get it, she could only kneel down. Knowing that Consort Jia had been worrying about Consort Rong, she couldn't help but timidly look up at her before speaking:
"This servant doesn't know either..."
...
After the palace maids watched Banxia return to Qiushui Pavilion, Consort Jia pondered Banxia's words in the palace.
She said she always saw Rong Shuyi bleeding, but it stopped in the last few days. Rong Shuyi was in a bad mood some time ago, but in the last few days, she suddenly cheered up.
However, she was right about one thing: Rong Shuyi's postpartum symptoms had lasted for far too long. She often saw white smoke rising from Qiushui Pavilion, which she assumed was from burning clothes.
A miscarriage is a miscarriage, but keeping it so tightly under wraps, preventing anyone from investigating, makes it seem like there's some other hidden story.
Consort Jia narrowed her eyes. She still had a strange thought in her mind, but how could she be sure of her suspicion based on just the burning of clothes? That suspicion was too... frightening. She would not say it out loud until she got other more concrete evidence.
Besides, Physician Xu often went to Qiushui Pavilion to take care of Consort Rong's health.
Why don't we start with Physician Xu?
But that was the Imperial Hospital.
Imperial concubines should not try to win over the imperial physicians, as it would be bad if they were discovered.
After much thought, Consort Jia suddenly realized that if she couldn't win over the imperial physician, then she would let Consort Shu do it.
She was only a concubine, how could she compare to Consort Shu, who was in charge of the affairs of the inner palace?
Even if things didn't go well, Consort Shu would still have people working for her, so she still wouldn't take the initiative to become that helper.
Consort Jia had thought this through and smiled slightly.
She summoned Qingrong.
"Go and prepare the writing materials."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
