Chapter 377 Ren Jialin: I'm your uncle

Although the official road was paved with stone slabs, the autumn drought brought sand and dust to the road. When horses trod over it, dust flew up, and from a distance, people could only recognize clothes and not people!

Ren Jialin and Zhou Shaoyu rode side by side, within the encirclement of the Imperial City Guards and the Imperial Household Department. From a distance, only the colors of their horses and clothes could be seen.

The arrows were so numerous, whistling through the air, that there must have been at least a hundred people lying in ambush and firing.

All the arrows flew towards Zhou Shaoyu, ah, no, Ren Jialin.

They were all there because of Ren Jialin.

Everyone hurriedly grabbed their weapons to deflect the arrows.

"Protect His Highness!"

"Your Highness, please turn back quickly."

"Quickly, escort His Highness back to the city."

There's nowhere they can escape!

The road ahead is cut off, and there is no way to retreat.

The other side isn't negotiating at Huiyue Manor! They've ambushed Zhou Shaoyu halfway there, their aim is to kill him.

Ren Jialin was highly skilled in martial arts and desperately swung his sword to block the arrows, shouting as he did so, "Get away from me! Quick, everyone get away from me!"

At this point, what didn't Zhou Shaoyu understand? Ren Jialin was taking the blame for him.

Seeing that he could not avoid it, Ren Jialin stretched out his left hand and swung out a palm, the force of the palm sending Zhou Shaoyu flying into the ditch by the roadside.

During that brief moment of opening in his palm strike, he was struck by two arrows. However, even after being hit, he still wielded his sword with incredible speed, the arrows clanging under his blade.

The Imperial City Guard immediately gave the signal.

The enemy archers, seeing that they had hit "Zhou Shaoyu," immediately fled.

The army of the Military Command has assembled and is charging in.

Zhou Shaoyu also suffered minor injuries, just a scratch on his arm.

But soon, he discovered that the arrowhead was poisoned.

Most of the Imperial City Guards and their men were injured to some extent. Several guards who were close to Ren Jialin were hit by arrows. Fortunately, the dozen or so martial arts friends who came with Ren Jialin were highly skilled, and only two of them died from the arrows scattered all over the ground.

Ren Jialin was hit by four arrows, coughed up blood, and fell off his horse.

If Zhou Shaoyu hadn't been pushed away with a single palm strike, given his martial arts skills, none of the hundred archers would have been able to harm him.

But now, archers are using him as a target, and he has been hit by four poisoned arrows, leaving his fate uncertain.

Zhou Shaoyu immediately ordered his army to surround the area within a five-mile radius, prohibiting any outsiders from approaching.

“Go to the palace and quietly tell Father that I am fine; bring all the imperial physicians; and have the royal carriage come as well.”

After giving the orders, the people from the Imperial City Guard, the Military Command, and the guards surrounded the area in layers.

Ren Jialin's eyes were somewhat unfocused. He smiled, his teeth stained dark red with blood.

Grasping Zhou Shaoyu's hand, he said breathlessly, "Your Highness..."

Zhou Shaoyu grasped his hand and said firmly, "Brother Ren, don't worry, I will definitely save you."

"I... I might not make it... I... I have a secret... My surname is Lin..."

Zhou Shaoyu's eyes widened in shock. He grabbed Nanxing's hand and told him to dismiss everyone around them.

"What did you say?"

“I am a member of the Lin family… your uncle…”

"You? My uncle?"

"Yes, your mother is my elder sister..."

Zhou Shaoyu's vision blurred with tears.

Uncle, what a luxurious word!

His maternal grandfather's family was forced to their deaths by Wei Yingzi simply because his maternal grandfather was one of his father's mentors and because his father and mother were in love.

Later, Wei instructed Guan Shanyue to produce evidence that the Lin family had "colluded with the enemy," and the entire clan was exiled and their property confiscated. He investigated and found that not a single person survived.

How did this uncle survive?

Now he's going to die for me again!

"Quickly, summon the imperial physician. We must save his life no matter what."

The road was blocked off, and soon the royal carriage arrived, followed by the imperial physicians. They treated and bandaged everyone before carrying them onto the carriage back to the city.

The archers who were lying in ambush were hunted down by the Imperial City Guard and the Military Command, and more than half of them were killed or wounded, while several were captured alive.

The news that "His Highness has been shot by an arrow and is seriously injured and unconscious" also spread.

His Majesty was furious, and the military officers immediately rushed to Huiyue Manor, where they encountered Empress Xie's troops.

The enemy also numbered approximately 100,000, with strong troops, excellent weaponry, and, more importantly, formidable fighting power.

It can be said that he can fight against three or five opponents at once.

The soldiers from the Military Command were having a hard time fighting!

Both sides were determined to kill each other and fight to the death.

Inside the palace.

The imperial physician first administered an antidote to Zhou Shaoyu and the others.

Zhou Shaoyu's abrasions on his arm had turned black.

He whispered to Nanxing and Dongyue, "Go quickly... and bring Miss Lu Feiyan and Uncle Chai here."

Lu Feiyan is in Lao Dingzhuang, and Chai Bo is in another place. This news cannot be spread, as he does not know how many of Empress Xie's people are still in the palace.

Zhou Shaoyu looked at the unconscious Ren Jialin. His skin had become rough and dark from fighting in the Northwest. Ren Jialin's complexion now had an added ashen tinge to its dark color.

That's the color of someone who died from poisoning.

The imperial physicians had tried every possible way to remove the arrows that could be pulled out, but of the four arrows in Ren Jialin's body, only two had been removed; the other two were difficult to remove.

Pulling it out could cause immediate death.

Finally, Lu Feiyan and Uncle Chai arrived amidst their anxiety.

Upon seeing Lu Feiyan, Emperor Hui greeted her happily, "Miss Lu, it's nice to see you again!"

"Greetings, Your Majesty! May Your Majesty be well!" Lu Feiyan's big, round eyes were much happier than when she was in the palace.

Upon seeing Lu Feiyan and Uncle Chai, Zhou Shaoyu immediately said, "Miss Lu, Uncle Chai, please be sure to save him. Tell us what you need."

Emperor Hui explained, "Two divine physicians, please examine this brave man; the arrowhead is poisoned."

Lu Feiyan took out a small container, collected some of Ren Jialin's blood, and put some medicinal powder in the container.
