Seeing that Aunt Zhang had given Jiutian two large bowls of meat, Ye Ting asked with concern, "Mom, is this Jiutian a relative?"
Aunt Zhang didn't tell Ye Ting about Jiu Tian's fortune telling for Zhang Xiangliang, nor could she.
She only said, "Jiutian is a child, but she is a fortune teller. She predicted that your second brother would be cheated when he partnered with someone to do grain business. Your father and I immediately went to find the partner, and sure enough, that person was trying to run away with the money."
"So you're saying her fortune-telling is very accurate?"
"Yes, thanks to her help, otherwise our family's wealth would have been swindled away."
“Mother, is it really necessary to give her so much meat? Fortune telling usually costs a few coins, but this meat costs at least thirty coins.”
Aunt Zhang said, "She and Jin Yi didn't come to the banquet, but they gave a congratulatory gift of two taels of silver."
"Two ounces, that much?"
"Yes, so these two bowls of meat are a must."
The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law brought meat and six steamed buns to the courtyard where Yin Jin'an lived.
The Wang family's courtyard, with its blue bricks and gray tiles, bright windows and clean rooms, was far superior to the Zhang family's mud-brick house. Ye Ting stared at it, somewhat dumbfounded.
Aunt Zhang knocked on the door, and Ma Chenyang ran to open it.
Ma Chenyang was fifteen years old, about the same age as Yin Jin'an. In addition, Yin Jin'an was always generous and provided Ma Chenyang with decent clothes. Ye Ting even thought he was Jiutian's second uncle.
Aunt Zhang asked, "Little Ma, is Jin Yi home?"
Ma Chenyang blocked the doorway and deliberately shouted loudly, "Young master, Aunt Zhang and her new bride have arrived."
He shouted this on purpose for Yin Jin'an to hear, because Yin Jin'an was practicing martial arts and he wanted Yin Jin'an to pretend to be lame.
Yin Jin'an sat down on the wooden stool by the door in a second and called Jiu Tian to get her a cloth to wipe her hands and face.
They're practicing and sweating profusely!
When Aunt Zhang and Ye Ting came in, they saw Yin Jin'an wearing a white silk short jacket and lantern-style trousers, sitting on a stool wiping her hands.
His hair was all pulled up and tied with a regular hairband.
Sweat dripped from his forehead, onto the silk robe beneath his long neck.
Like morning dewdrops falling on bamboo leaves, they are crystal clear, beautiful, and elegant.
His appearance was so beautiful that it changed the very heavens and earth; his cold, arrogant phoenix eyes were both aloof and haughty.
Ye Ting was stunned for a moment, and her face suddenly turned bright red.
Seeing Yin Jin'an and thinking of Zhang Xiangliang, she felt a sudden, indescribable bitterness in her heart.
Aunt Zhang didn't notice her expression at all. She was happy. No matter what, she had finally gotten rid of a daughter-in-law, which put her mind at ease.
"Jinyi, this meat hasn't been touched. You and Jiutian can have some," Aunt Zhang said to Yin Jin'an.
Yin Jin'an gestured for Ma Chenyang to take it, and said calmly, "Thank you, Aunt Zhang."
Jiutian stared at Ye Ting.
Seeing her staring intently at her second uncle, I felt a surge of disgust.
He put the hat on his second uncle's head and said, "Second Uncle, it's cold outside, come inside."
Ma Chenyang immediately put down his bowl and carried Yin Jin'an into the house.
The beautiful scene before Ye Ting's eyes vanished, and she quickly lowered her head.
Ma Chenyang poured the meat into his own bowl, returned the empty bowl to Aunt Zhang, and said with a grin, "Aunt Zhang, thank you!"
“Take good care of Jinyi. It’s so cold, how can you let him wear so little and freeze in the yard?” Aunt Zhang instructed. “If you don’t take good care of him when he’s young, he’ll be sick when he’s old.”
"Yes, yes, I will certainly do my duty."
Aunt Zhang smiled when she heard him use that fancy phrase, and looked at Jiutian: "Jiutian, come visit Sister Xiu when you have time."
Okay.
Ye Ting looked at Jiu Tian curiously and asked, "Are you Jiu Tian?"
Jiutian looked at her without saying a word.
Ye Ting felt a little embarrassed. Aunt Zhang didn't say anything, but pulled her aside and said to Jiu Tian, "Jiu Tian, I'm leaving now."
Okay.
Ye Ting followed Aunt Zhang away, feeling somewhat absent-minded but not daring to say anything. When she got home and looked at Zhang Xiangliang again, she suddenly found him incredibly ugly, dirty, and smelly.
Even Zhang Xiangliang's smile felt disgusting.
Two large buckets of mixed vegetables were left over from the banquet. Zhang Xiangliang, Aunt Zhang, Zhang Xiangxiu, and their daughters gave them to the neighbors, bowl after bowl, which made her feel a little sorry for them.
"Mom, we can eat this mixed dish ourselves. Why give it to the neighbors? They've already had the banquet. Since they didn't send any gifts, we don't need to give it to them!"
Aunt Zhang explained, "After the banquet, the leftovers are shared with the neighbors. This has been the custom for many years."
Ye Ting said, "They don't know how much food is left over, so it's okay if they give us a smaller portion, right?"
There's no real relationship between us, but I feel guilty.
Aunt Zhang thought that she had eaten at other people's homes before, so when it came to her own family, there was no reason for her to mix up leftovers.
However, after she delivered the leftovers to a few neighbors, she ran out of food. She didn't think much of it because her second son, daughter, and Zhang Tiezhu were all delivering.
When she was having dinner, she had left half a bucket for the family, but she found that there was none left in the bucket.
The steamed buns in the small storage room are all gone.
"Strange, I clearly left thirty steamed buns, how come none of them are left?" Aunt Zhang searched everywhere.
Zhang Xiangliang wasn't there either. Aunt Zhang thought the young couple might be in their new house, and she didn't want to disturb them, so she quickly kneaded the dough and rolled out the noodles.
It's not appropriate for a new bride to drink porridge on her first day in the family.
After she finished making the noodles, she asked Zhang Xiangxiu to call Zhang Xiangliang and his wife for dinner. After calling for a long time without anyone answering, she had no choice but to knock on the door.
"Liang'er, Ye Ting? Time for dinner."
No one answered.
"Ye Ting, are you there? Is Mother coming in?"
Aunt Zhang pushed open the door, but no one was inside.
Where are they?
Aunt Zhang asked Zhang Xiangshan, "Second son, have you seen your brother and sister-in-law?"
