Chapter 75 The way they escaped... was rather...
Jian Ren's gaze shifted from above to her face, his "gaze" intense, making Shen Mi's scalp tingle. Shen Mi regretted her earlier suggestion made out of concern.
"Um... I just thought you might be in a lot of pain from your injuries, I didn't mean any harm," she quickly explained, afraid the other person would misunderstand.
Seeing that Ren remained expressionless, Shen Mi quickly added, "If I had any bad intentions, I would have used them when you interrogated me this afternoon."
After saying that, Shen Mi touched his neck with lingering fear, as if those powerful hands were still holding him there.
As for what happened this afternoon—
At the time, she genuinely had no intention of cooperating with Ren's interrogation. She knew how deep the entanglement between him and Dan Heng was, and no matter what, she didn't want anything to happen to Dan Heng, much less for the two of them to fight. However, under that immense pressure that almost suffocated her, Shen Mi could only weigh the pros and cons and compromise for the time being. She used the information about Dan Heng's appearance on the desolate planet a long time ago as a bargaining chip to get Ren to take her away from the cell.
Otherwise, with her skinny arms and legs, she would probably have been caught and brought back as soon as she escaped.
Thinking of this, Shen Mi secretly rejoiced. She deliberately mixed the truth with lies, making it difficult to distinguish between them. She figured that even if Ren was very sharp, he wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a short time. Now, she was just waiting for the right opportunity to escape.
Speaking of escaping, Shen Mi's thoughts shifted, and he suddenly thought of Jing Yuan.
He wondered how worried he would be if he disappeared. Shen Mi's heart tightened. The smug ease he had felt earlier vanished, replaced by an inexplicable anxiety. Shen Mi slowly clenched his fists, his nails digging into his flesh, as if using this insignificant pain to remind himself that time was of the essence.
Are you still in pain?
When do we make our move?
The two spoke at almost the same time, but said completely different things.
Shen Mi was slightly taken aback, then met his gaze—or rather, met his gaze into those empty, blood-scabbed eye sockets. The air froze for a moment, then Ren turned his head away first, chuckling softly.
"We still have to wait." His voice was very calm, and Shen Mi couldn't discern his emotions. She only felt very anxious and couldn't wait any longer.
"How long do we have to wait? The longer we wait, the greater the risk. And shouldn't we start planning how to get out?" Shen Mi frowned, a little anxious. Her tone quickened, and her voice became louder than she had expected, sounding like she was questioning someone.
Blade turned to look at her.
Shen Mi: "Sorry, I was just a little anxious."
Jing Yuan must still be searching for her outside, and she couldn't just waste time here. Besides, a nagging feeling told her that they might not be the only ones in danger…
Blade was unaffected by her words. He groped his way to the corner of the wall and leaned against it, saying calmly, "You don't need to worry about that. I have my own plans."
"Okay. Is there anything you need me to do?"
After hearing this, Ren chuckled softly: "Just stay put and don't say anything. I'll call you when it's almost time."
Helpless, Shen Mi found a corner to sit down, hugged his knees, and buried his face in his arms.
His life has been full of twists and turns.
Time ticked by, and she lost track of what time it was. In a daze, she ended up hugging her knees and taking a short nap.
When I woke up, there was a meal in the small window in the corner of the wall, which must have been from Bai Qi.
Night deepened, and the world outside the skylight was so dark that not a single star could be seen. A deathly silence surrounded her; no birdsong, no shadows, only endless darkness. It was as if the entire world had been hollowed out, leaving her alone adrift in a silent universe, where even the air had been sucked away.
The darkness was as silent as death.
Shen Mi began to have trouble breathing, as if something was pressing down on her chest. She raised her hand and brought it close to her face in the dim, almost non-existent light of the day, barely managing to make out the outline of her palm.
A nameless fear crept up from the bottom of my heart.
Chen Mi was a little scared, her voice trembling slightly: "Ren, are you still there?"
She bent down, supporting herself on all fours, and slowly moved along the path she remembered the location of the blade. Her fingertips passed through clumps of withered grass, but she could never touch anyone.
"Is anyone there?" she asked in a low voice, her voice tinged with anxiety.
Strange, where are they?
Shen Mi probed further forward, but it was still a pile of withered grass.
"edge?"
Where are you?
...
The darkness offered no response; even its echoes were stingily swallowed by silence.
Shen Mi crouched low, groping in the darkness, his fingers brushing against the dry grass and rough ground. Just as he was about to probe further, suddenly—
My fingertips touched something strange.
Cold, hard, slightly uneven, like...
chest?
She paused, then reached over again, her fingertips accidentally rubbing that spot lightly twice.
It has no temperature, is both hard and soft, and has a curve resembling a small hill.
She belatedly realized what it was, her breath caught in her throat, and she sprang up as if electrocuted: "Ah—!"
It's a chest!!
Just as she screamed, a slight tremor came from beneath her, followed by a deep voice: "...Have you touched enough?"
Shen Mi froze on the spot, stunned for a few seconds, before she recognized the familiar voice. Still shaken, she knelt back down: "I'm sorry, I thought you..."
"What did you think?" He interrupted her before she could finish speaking, his voice indifferent and devoid of emotion.
"I thought you left first by yourself." Shen Mi touched his nose, his tone sullen.
In the darkness, she couldn't see his expression, but she could hear his voice coming from his left, followed by the rustling of fabric, indicating that he had sat up.
Then came a low question: "In your eyes, am I someone who acts more than I speak?"
"No, no!" Shen Mi quickly waved her hand, her words quickening. "I was just half asleep, and when I woke up I couldn't see you, and you didn't respond no matter how I called you..."
Her voice gradually lowered, like a child who had made a mistake, cautiously raising her head to discern his outline, only able to see him clearly when she got very close.
"That's enough." Ren murmured, looking down at Shen Mi kneeling on the ground. The blood crusts around his empty eye sockets trembled slightly. He slowly opened his eyes, as if trying to penetrate the thick, impenetrable darkness.
His vision was still blurry, and he couldn't make out her face, only vaguely sensing a faint outline, like a bright spot in a pitch-black painting. Even so—it was much better than the complete darkness when he first woke up.
"It's almost time," he suddenly said, his voice low and hoarse, as if weighed down by heavy rust.
Shen Mi was startled, still feeling the lingering fear and embarrassment from just now, and couldn't react immediately: "Wh...what?"
"It's time to leave." Blade repeated, his tone not harsh, but with an undeniable calmness.
Shen Mi raised her head blankly, looking at his still unfocused eye sockets, as if she could see new flesh and blood growing from his empty eyes, but now it was dark and she couldn't see it clearly.
"Now?" she asked softly, her voice still carrying a hint of surprise that hadn't yet faded.
"Now." Blade said decisively, without the slightest hesitation.
"Okay, so how do we get out? This place is completely surrounded by impenetrable walls." Chen Mi subconsciously glanced around. The small house was airtight, with thick walls, no windows, and no door in sight. He really didn't know how he had been locked in.
"Take a few steps back," Ren said, standing up with steady movements. His robes brushed lightly against Shen Mi's cheek in the darkness. His fluid and decisive actions reassured Shen Mi.
Shen Mi was stunned for a moment, then subconsciously did as he was told, quietly retreating to the corner of the wall and watching him without saying a word.
In the darkness, only his general outline and movements could be seen.
The blade touched the wall, found its mark, and slowly raised its arm, clenching its fist. The next second—
He suddenly swung his fist and slammed it hard against the wall!
"Thump—!"
A loud, muffled sound, like a drumbeat, shook the entire room slightly, and dust began to fall.
Oh my god.
Shen Mi suddenly opened his eyes wide, staring in disbelief at the scene before him. The way he had described going out was in such a simple and brutal way.
She almost instinctively took a half step back, her eyes fixed on the wall, where a crack had appeared.
He didn't stop.
Touching the crack in the wall, he threw another punch—
"Thump!"
Stone chips flew everywhere, and a pungent smell of dust filled the air.
The third punch, the fourth punch, the fifth punch...
Shen Mi held his breath, watching him punch the wall again and again. It wasn't just simple destruction; it was as if he was sacrificing himself to get out. Besides the sound of the wall shattering, Shen Mi could almost hear the sounds of finger bones breaking and flesh tearing.
“You…” She instinctively wanted to step forward, but she froze when she saw his unwavering action.
He seemed to neither hear nor see, and just kept punching.
"Thump! Thump! Thump!"
Each sound seemed to strike Shen Mi's heart, making her heart go numb.
Finally, after what seemed like the umpteenth strike, the stone wall emitted a crisp sound—"crack."
Fist-sized stone bricks were smashed and fell down, revealing a dark crack through which the cold night wind, carrying the scent of earth from the mountains and forests, seeped in.
Ren stood rooted to the spot, cold sweat beading on his forehead, trickling down his temples, his arm still dangling in mid-air. His fist trembled slightly, his knuckles white, blood slowly trickling from his broken knuckles, dripping onto the ground and leaving a small, deep red stain, like a quietly blooming blood flower in the dim light.
After several more slams, the stone wall gradually cracked open, creating a triangular gap that allowed a person to pass through.
Shen Mi's heart tightened at the sight, and before he could speak, he whispered, "Let's go, hurry up, they'll come over as soon as they hear the commotion."
Upon hearing this, Shen Mi's lips twitched slightly.
So you knew about it too...
While secretly cursing in her heart, she quickly stood up from the ground, ignoring the soreness and numbness in her hands and feet, and followed after him in three steps.
A narrow crack was revealed in the broken wall, through which lay a blurry night, mixed with the fragrance of dust and grass.
Shen Mi looked up at him and saw him standing there blankly, looking up helplessly. She sighed, stepped forward, and without hesitation reached out to grab his blood-stained arm.
“I’ll take you away,” she said, her voice not loud, but steady enough to pierce the night, “I’ll be your eyes.”
The blade trembled slightly, and he turned to "look" at her. The newly formed flesh deep in his eyes blurred his true emotions, like a layer of damp mist. He didn't speak, but paused briefly when Shen Mi grabbed him.
