Chapter 17 Give Up

"What did you say you're not interested in?" Pei Yan raised his voice a few degrees.

"I'm just not interested in boys..." Yang Shao felt that Pei Yan's attitude was a little strange, but after a closer look, he couldn't see what was wrong. He scratched his head and said, "I originally wanted to pursue the embroidery master named Hua, but I didn't expect that she had a particularly good relationship with her friend."

Pei Yan sent Yang Shao home without saying a word. He raised his chin and said, "Get out of the car."

"Thank you, Brother Pei." Yang Shao was very tactful. He rolled out of the car without waiting for Pei Yan to chase him away. He turned around and lay down next to the car window on Pei Yan's side: "Brother Pei, I heard that you didn't withdraw your investment in the Chen family's project?"

"I'm doing business with Mr. Chen. It has nothing to do with me disliking the Chen brothers." Pei Yan slapped his hand that was clinging to the car door. "Who are you helping by suddenly asking this?"

"Chen Sen's cousin and I used to be in the same class..."

"Why didn't you tell me that she was your ex-girlfriend?" Pei Yan tapped the steering wheel with his left and right index fingers. "You are not young anymore. Don't just think about eating, drinking and having fun all day. You should learn how to manage a company from your uncle."

"Brother, you are my real brother." Yang Shao knew that Pei Yan was somewhat dissatisfied with his behavior, and wanted to say a few nice words to ease the atmosphere, but Pei Yan simply closed the car window and drove away.

"Which woman can stand such a weird personality?" Yang Shao rubbed his nose, thinking about Pei Yan's temper over the years, and shook his head.

Inside the car, Pei Yan pulled off the bow tie around his neck and turned on the music player in the car.

The sudden rain hit the car window with a crackling sound. Pei Yan slowed down the car and drove past an intersection. After seeing a familiar figure on the side of the road, he couldn't help but slow down the car.

"It rains as soon as it's said it would. We can't get a taxi." Tan Yuan and Hua Jin hid under the bus stop. "Hua Hua, why don't you come to my house tonight? It's closer to my home."

Hua Jin looked at the queue time on the taxi app and sighed: "Let's go..."

"Beautiful lady, do you need me to take you home?" A car slowly stopped in front of Hua Jin, without splashing any water on the ground. After opening the car window and seeing who was in the driver's seat, Hua Jin fell silent.

It’s Pei Yan again, that dishonest man.

"Why are you still standing there like an idiot? Get in the car." Seeing Hua Jin's skirt wet by the rain, Pei Yan looked disgusted. "It's raining so hard, are you really planning to stay out in the rain?"

Seeing that the rain was getting heavier, Hua Jin opened the back door with the shopping bag in her hand and pulled Tan Yuan into the car: "Mr. Pei, thank you."

Pei Yan looked up at the rearview mirror and couldn't help but turn his head to look at Hua Jin holding his companion's hand: "There is a tissue next to it, take it yourself."

"Oh." Hua Jin bent down to find tissues, took out two and helped Tan Yuan wipe the rain off his cheeks. Turning around, she found Pei Yan staring at her. Thinking he was curious about Tan Yuan's identity, she introduced him, "This is my good friend Tan Yuan."

"Hello." Maybe it was because he had not met enough rich people, but Tan Yuan felt that the handsome guy driving the luxury car looked at him in a strange way.

Pei Yan nodded slightly to her and asked Hua Jin: "Where are you going?"

Hua Jin reported Tan Yuan's home address: "Please take my friend home first."

"Don't you live together?" Pei Yan took out a towel from the passenger seat and threw it on Hua Jin, then started the car.

"She lives with her parents, it's not convenient for me to live there." Hua Jin had a towel thrown in her face, so she pulled it down and said, "Can't you be gentler? My makeup has been ruined."

"It's dark, who would care about your makeup?" Pei Yan said sarcastically, "I'm sorry, I'm not as gentle as girls."

Hearing that his tone was not right, Hua Jin did not say anything back. Even if she was using someone else's car, she had to be soft-spoken.

She rolled up the wet hem of her skirt and put the towel over her and Tan Yuan's knees. She gave the whole bag of snacks to Tan Yuan: "Take it. There is no trouble that can't be solved by a pile of snacks. If one pile doesn't work, use two."

"You are so scheming. Are you trying to make me gain weight on purpose?" Tan Yuan knew that Hua Jin had seen through her bad mood, so she specially bought her favorite snacks.

"You figured this out?" Hua Jin was shocked. "I didn't expect you to be so smart."

"Go to hell." Tan Yuan held a big bag full of snacks, and finally had a real smile on his face, "Huahua, thank you."

"Why are you saying this? We are just friends." Hua Jin reached out and tidied up the few strands of hair that stood up on her head. They were sitting in someone else's car now, so it was inappropriate to talk about anything too private, so she could only reach out and hug her shoulders. "You can rest at home tomorrow, and I'll just look after the store."

Tan Yuan did not refuse. She looked down at the brand of snacks in the bag and said with a smile, "I knew you would buy something from this store."

Hua Jin helped her tie up the shopping bag. "Things produced by big brands are safer than those produced by ordinary manufacturers. What's wrong with me choosing this?"

"There's nothing wrong with it, it's just that their snacks are more expensive than others."

Hua Jin sighed: "That's also a problem with our wallets."

Tan Yuan: “…”

Pei Yan parked the car outside the gate of the community. Hua Jin saw a man standing at the gate of the community. It was Uncle Tan holding an umbrella.

Seeing Uncle Tan looking around, Hua Jin pushed Tan Yuan: "Uncle Tan is here to pick you up." It was raining, and the father was worried that his daughter would get wet on the few steps into the community, so he waited at the door with an umbrella in advance. This kind of father-daughter relationship may be something that many families can have.

Tan Yuan thanked Pei Yan, opened the door, got out of the car, and ran to Tan Qing's umbrella. Pei Yan's eyes fell on the shopping bag in Tan Yuan's hand. When the father and daughter walked into the gate of the community, he turned around and asked Hua Jin: "Where do you live?"

Hua Jin gave the address, and Pei Yan drove while asking, "Do you like Yuan Pan Food Company's products?"

"Yeah." Hua Jin lowered her head to play with her phone. Pei Yan could only see her smooth forehead in the rearview mirror. He chuckled, "You embroiderers, do you also have your own insistence on food brands?"

"No, this is just my hobby." Hua Jin tapped her phone and posted the food photos taken by Tan Yuan to her Moments. "I can't represent other embroiderers."

"Then I think you should change this little hobby of yours." Pei Yan unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt. He often wore a shirt, tie and suit in public, but he himself did not like to be bound by constraints. "Yuan Pan's food quality is just so-so. The high price is due to the brand effect. Don't go against money if you have nothing to do."

Hua Jin stared at the back of his head for a moment: "Is it that bad?"

"It's better to buy an extra bag of fruit than to waste this money." Pei Yan sneered, "Yuan Pan's senior management is in disarray. Now that Internet celebrity foods are springing up like mushrooms after rain, the production scale has gradually shrunk. It's only a matter of time before they fall from the altar."

Hua Jin's lips twitched, hesitating to speak, and after a while he said, "I understand."

Driving to the place Hua Jin mentioned, Pei Yan looked at the dark alley without even a street light and frowned tightly: "You are a girl, and you live alone in a place like this?"

"The rent here is cheap and it's close to the subway. I rented this place with the help of a friend." Hua Jin folded the towel on her knees and said, "Mr. Pei, you have never rented a house before, so you don't know the current market conditions. Even a basement in a good neighborhood with a good location costs thousands of yuan a month."

"Handmade embroidery is so expensive, but it's not enough for you to spend?" Pei Yan turned off the engine, found an umbrella from the car, opened the door and said with a stern face, "Come on, I'll take you in."

"That's not necessary..."

"What do you mean by no need? It's dark here. If a criminal case happens, I will probably be treated as a suspect by the police." Pei Yan opened his umbrella and said expressionlessly, "Who will compensate me for the loss of my reputation then?"

Hua Jin got out of the car and hid under Pei Yan's umbrella.

"Although handmade embroidery is not cheap, it takes a lot of time to make one piece of embroidery, and not everyone is willing to spend money on things that have nothing to do with food and drink." Hua Jin lowered her head and walked around the puddles on the ground. "Be careful, there's a pit here, don't..."

Before he could finish his words, Pei Yan stepped in, and mud and water splashed all over his trouser legs.

"Mr. Pei, why don't you lend me your umbrella and I can go in by myself." Hua Jin pointed to the other end of the alley, "Go through this alley and walk a few dozen steps forward, and you'll find where I live."

Pei Yan ignored her and continued walking forward holding the umbrella: "This line of work is so difficult, have you ever thought about changing jobs?"

"Before I learned Shu embroidery, I did a lot of jobs. I even did things like putting film on people for a month or two." Hua Jin smiled, but the smile was hidden in the dark night and could not be seen clearly.

The two of them walked through the alley, one step deep and one step shallow. Pei Yan was obviously not used to walking on this kind of road, and walked more difficultly than Hua Jin.

After finally walking downstairs, Hua Jin used the light from her cell phone screen to see that Pei Yan's trouser legs and leather shoes were covered in mud and she couldn't help laughing.

"Very funny?" Pei Yan had a sour face.

"It's indeed a bit funny." Hua Jin nodded honestly, and Pei Yan's face became even uglier.

"Is that Xiaohua?" Old Mrs. Chen, who lived on the second floor, heard the noise and poked half of her head out of the window. "Have you finished rubbing the medicinal wine I gave you last time? It's been raining these two days, and your legs must be hurting again. Why don't you come over and get a bottle?"

"Grandma Chen, I still have half a bottle, thank you." Hua Jin looked up to thank Grandma Chen. Grandma Chen stared at her and Pei Yan for a few seconds before retracting her head at one tenth of the speed when she stuck it out.

Pei Yan glanced at Hua Jin's legs and said, "I'm leaving."

"Thank you." Hua Jin walked into the corridor and was soon submerged in the darkness.

Pei Yan returned to the car and received a red envelope from Hua Jin, with the note "gasoline fee" on it.

He opened the red envelope and put the money away.

Pei: Give up. Your petty tricks that are not for the sake of money will not attract my attention.

Hua Jin held the phone in her hand, looking at the message Pei Yan sent back, and couldn't help laughing out loud.

Fanhua: Oh, man, your stubbornness has successfully attracted my attention.

Pei Yan looked at his phone, his brows furrowed into a big "川" shape.

Which gender is this peacock more interested in?

The author has something to say: Pei Yan: Haha, woman.

Hua Jin: Haha, man.
