Chapter 4 Social People

Hua Jin didn't say anything, just looked at the man in the sports car quietly.

Under Hua Jin's gaze, the handsome man's smile froze a little, and he even twisted his hips uncomfortably: "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Sir, it is the responsibility of every citizen to obey traffic rules." Hua Jin pointed to the road sign next to him, which read "No parking on this road."

The chat-up turned into a traffic law promotion and the atmosphere became a little awkward.

The man was not angry after being retorted by Hua Jin in a neither hard nor soft tone. He glanced at Hua Jin with the side of his eyes and said: "Okay." As soon as he finished speaking, he stepped on the accelerator and drove away.

Watching the sports car disappear around the corner, Hua Jin held onto the fence behind her and coughed repeatedly. The air quality has not been very good in recent days, with catkins flying everywhere. Just now, she had only taken a few steps out of the hotel door when she was choked by the catkins and her eyes were red. She almost couldn't breathe.

I didn't expect there would be so many willow trees on this road section. This is really harmful to people with sensitive respiratory tracts.

Behind the fence was a huge artificial lake. The lake was clean and there was no plastic waste. Facing the lake, she took a few deep breaths and suddenly someone patted her shoulder from behind. Hua Jin turned her head and saw an old couple standing behind her. The one who patted her shoulder was the old lady with a smile on her face.

"My daughter, don't think too much about anything. It's windy here, don't catch a cold." The old lady pointed to a public seat in the distance.

"No, no thanks." Resisting the urge to cough, Hua Jin took out a handkerchief from her bag and covered her mouth and nose with it. "Sorry, I have some allergies in my nose."

"Oh, it's okay if it's just an allergy." The old lady nodded several times. "In previous years, willow catkins only started to fall after April. I don't know what happened this year. It's only the end of March, and the sky is full of this stuff."

After coughing a few times, Hua Jin said in a muffled voice, "Yes, yes."

"Then you'd better not stay here. There are willow trees planted on the nearby roads. You might not be able to stand it." The old lady was very enthusiastic. She and her husband helped Hua Jin stop a taxi and stuffed Hua Jin in.

Hua Jin felt a little embarrassed by the two old people. She was only twenty-four or twenty-five years old and was just allergic to willow catkins, but she actually needed the old people to help her stop a car: "Thank you so much for troubling you."

"I'm glad you're okay." The old lady smiled and waved at Hua Jin, signaling the driver that he could drive.

The driver glanced at Hua Jin in the rearview mirror, and after driving the car a distance away, he couldn't help but say, "Little girl, life is long, and there is still a lot of hope in the future. Don't do anything to hurt yourself because of a small matter."

Hua Jin was a little confused when she heard this, and nodded with a dry laugh.

The car went quiet. Hua Jin took out a makeup mirror from her bag and looked at her face. Who was this woman with red eyes and a red nose? Who was this woman with beautiful curly hair that was messed up by the wind?

So the old man and woman who sent her to the car just now were worried that she would do something bad?

"A few days ago, a little girl jumped into the lake because she was heartbroken. When she was fished out, her whole body was white and swollen. Her family members fainted by the lake crying." The driver sighed, "Poor girl, and her family members are pitiful too. It must be uncomfortable to choke on water."

"Oh, right. The lake where the little girl drowned is right where you got on the bus just now." Seeing that Hua Jin didn't respond, the driver added, "You young people like to say things on the Internet. There is nothing that can't be solved by delicious food. If one meal doesn't work, then two meals will do."

After listening to the uncle's discussion on the meaning of life, food philosophy, and Internet trends, Hua Jin felt that her body and mind had been cleansed and sublimated when she got off the car.

After returning home and removing her makeup and taking a shower, Hua Jin felt relieved when she saw that her eyes were no longer red and swollen.

Aunt Gao once said that eyes and hands are the most important things for an embroiderer. If she wants to go further in Shu embroidery, stand higher and become a true craftsman, she must protect her hands and eyes.

Therefore, unless it is necessary, she would try to avoid staying up late to make embroidery, as it would cause great harm to her eyes.

Hua Jin opened the curtains and did a set of eye exercises. She heard her cell phone ringing and the caller ID showed an unfamiliar number. After seeing where the number belonged, she paused for a moment before answering the call.

"Hello, I'm Hua Jin, the embroiderer from the Fanhua Shu Embroidery Studio."

"Hello." The person on the other end of the phone stammered, "I'm the one who ordered the dragon and phoenix quilt last time. I'd like to ask if you can help me rush out the quilt in advance. I'm willing to pay more, really, I'm willing to pay more, as long as you are willing to help me rush out the quilt in advance!"

"Sir, please don't be anxious." The moment she heard the other party's voice, Hua Jin remembered who the other party was. She found that the other party's mood was a little strange, so she tried to slow down her tone and said, "Please speak slowly."

"The doctor said my wife... doesn't have much time left. She hasn't been able to eat in the past few days and can only fall asleep with the help of painkillers." The man's voice was choked with sobs, "I just want her to cover herself with such a beautiful quilt, I... I..."

Listening to the incoherent crying voice on the phone, Hua Jin pursed her lower lip and glanced at the embroidery that was already mostly finished on the embroidery frame: "Is five days okay? I will finish the dragon and phoenix quilt in five days and send it to you. Please send me the delivery address."

"Thank you, thank you." The man kept thanking her, but apart from thank you, he couldn't say any other nice words.

Hua Jin hung up the phone, looked out the window at the sunlight filling the ground, took a deep breath, and sat down in front of the embroidery frame.

There are many legends about dragons and phoenixes. Some say that they are born incompatible and will fight fiercely whenever they meet, so it is called the dragon-phoenix fight. But the more mainstream view, or in many traditional cultures, the simultaneous appearance of a dragon and a phoenix is a good omen, also known as the dragon-phoenix auspiciousness.

Therefore, when embroidering auspicious dragon and phoenix, it is not enough to just embroider the dragon, phoenix and auspicious clouds. What is more important is to capture the harmonious charm between the dragon and the phoenix, so that people who see this embroidery will have the first feeling of harmony, beauty and happiness.

In traditional cognition, the scales and feathers of the phoenix are very beautiful, and one of the great characteristics of Shu embroidery is that the embroidery threads are brightly colored, which is perfect for embroidering dragons and phoenixes.

During these five days, Hua Jin spent most of her energy on embroidering the dragon and phoenix quilt. When she finished embroidering the quilt, it was already four o'clock in the morning of the fifth day. She slept in bed for two or three hours, and got up from the bed with difficulty amid the continuous screams of the alarm clock.

For seriously ill patients who cannot sleep or eat, every moment of wakefulness is precious and Hua Jin cannot afford to waste it.

After taking a taxi to the hospital, Hua Jin called the other party, but the other party answered after a long time, and his voice sounded tired and desperate.

Hua Jin said: "Please take good care of your family members. You don't need to come down. I will send them up for you."

The hospital corridors were crowded with beds, and the faces of the sick and their families who were taking care of them were all haggard. When Hua Jin found the man who had customized the dragon and phoenix quilt, he was sitting against the wall with a few pieces of paper in his hands. When he saw Hua Jin coming over, he tried to force a smile, but failed.

When handing the quilt to the man, Hua Jin saw a critical illness notice among the papers in his hand. On the bed closest to him, a pale, thin woman was sleeping on a ventilator.

The man took out a stack of money from his bag and handed it to Hua Jin. Hua Jin took two of them and said, "Don't take the rest."

"How can I ask for that?" The man was so anxious that he spoke in dialect. "No, you still have to give what you deserve. It's not easy for you young people to make money."

"The deposit and these two hundred yuan are enough." Hua Jin did not take any other money. "It's rare to meet a fellow villager after so many years away from home. You can keep the rest of the money to take good care of your elder sister and the children who are still in school."

The man's eyes were red, and after a while he nodded emphatically: "Thank you."

He looked at Hua Jin deeply, as if he wanted to remember her appearance in his heart.

Hua Jin did not bother the couple again, walked through the corridor with a strong smell of disinfectant, and then got lost in the winding corridors of the hospital. After finally finding the elevator, she found that this elevator only stopped at even-numbered floors, not odd-numbered floors.

When they reached the second floor, Hua Jin came out of the elevator. Before she took two steps, she heard a scream not far away: "Wait, wait, press it for me."

If it wasn't for the fact that the other party was running towards this side, Hua Jin would have almost thought it was a pineapple spirit. A yellow coat, yellow hair, and a pair of golden sneakers.

Such a dazzling color made her involuntarily help the other person press the elevator button. However, it was too late, the elevator had already gone up to the upper floor.

The "pineapple spirit" stood in front of the elevator door panting, turned his head and said weakly: "Thank you, beautiful lady."

"You're welcome." Hua Jin couldn't help but look at the other person twice more. There are not many young people nowadays who still have the same feelings as Mashat, and they need special protection.

The elevators in the hospital were crowded almost 24 hours a day, so Hua Jin found a safe passage and went downstairs. There was a strange odor in the passage, and after staying up late for several days, Hua Jin smelled the odor and the smell of disinfectant, and suddenly felt dizzy and almost fell down the stairs.

"Beauty, it seems we are destined to be together, but falling down the stairs just to throw yourself into someone's arms is a high price to pay." Someone reached out to pull her, then quickly took his hand back.

Standing firmly on the stair railing, Hua Jin looked carefully and looked into a pair of watery peach eyes.

It was the man in the sports car who I met outside the hotel five days ago.

This time, the other party was wearing a white shirt and a blue suit vest, and looked a lot more serious.

"The price is worth it. You're offering it to me." Hua Jin took out chocolate from her bag. She might have hypoglycemia due to staying up late and skipping breakfast.

Divide the chocolate into two halves and put one half in the other person's hand: "Although I don't like men who are too proactive, I am very satisfied with your appearance. This is a reward for you."

We are all members of society, who wouldn’t take advantage of others verbally?

The author has something to say: I am Sister Hua in society.

Sports Car Man: I’m not, I don’t.
