18 Reunion
My disguise skills are something I can be quite proud of. Aside from taking some time to cover that annoying hair, it didn't take much effort. That's because I plucked the hair strand by strand from the heads of the bandits who inexplicably robbed me that morning. As I plucked, they cried and begged for their lives. How stingy! Then I soaked it in spices for three days and three nights, which was considered cleaning it. Then I stuck it to my own hair, put on my cloak as usual, and walked away without a care in the world. My originally pristine white cloak has now turned gray from my days of travel; it seems I'll have to get a new one. Instead of going to Mount Song first, I chose to stay at a quiet little inn outside Luoyang. Surrounded by mountains and water, it gave me a slight feeling of homesickness.
Normally, I just order steamed buns.
After a few days, I got to know the proprietress quite well. When I had free time, I would go hunting and bring back some wild delicacies for her to cook and share.
"Is the Mo family still in the city?" I asked, gnawing on a wolf leg.
"Of course, the Mo family is the richest family in the Central Plains. Especially the second young master of the Mo family, so many young girls would marry anyone but him," the proprietress said with a smile. She even made me some tea.
So the older brother took over. "Is he married?" Or has he been married several times?
"No."
"Huh? Why?" My brother is getting on in years.
"Sigh, it's a long story. Ever since their young master Mo passed away, everything has changed. Old Master Mo no longer cares about things and went to his villa in Jiangnan to relax, and he's been gone for many years. Second Young Master Mo has become cold and ruthless, a complete workaholic, and all the matchmakers who came to arrange marriages have been driven away."
I'm dead? When did that happen? My mind is full of questions.
Where is Miss Mo?
"That young lady was very beautiful, but unfortunately she was mentally challenged. However, she's already married."
"Pfft!" He spat out a mouthful of saliva.
"How could you be so careless? Here, let me wipe you down." The proprietress kindly pulled out a towel.
"She got married? Who?" Dad is really senile; he still sold Fei Yu as a girl.
"He's a son-in-law, surnamed Han or something. I heard he was originally the second young master of the Northern Hanlong Fortress, but he fell in love with that young lady at first sight and then became even more devoted to her. He insisted on marrying her, and the two of them were mutually attracted, so they got married just like that. However, the two of them haven't officially tied the knot yet. While other families observe three years of mourning, they insisted on doing it for six years. They were supposed to get married this year, but this martial arts tournament has postponed it again. Many of the Mo family's friends say they will get married publicly after the martial arts tournament. That makes sense, that young lady is already so grown up, although Zhili is only a teenager." She rambled on and on.
"How did she become an idiot?" I suddenly asked. It's mental illness, which is difficult to cure, but if it was caused by other illnesses, it should be manageable.
“The fever has damaged his brain,” the landlady said, clearly uninterested in the topic. “Was this young master from here before? It’s been years since you’ve been here. You don’t even know about something so famous?” “I lived here when I was a child; it’s been a long time since I’ve come back,” I said thoughtfully.
In the middle of the night, a lonely flute melody drifted from the back mountain of the Mo family in Luoyang. Its elegant and lingering sound lasted for three days.
"Brother?" Fei Yu, who had been lured here by my captivating voice, rubbed his eyes. Even after so many years, even though I've changed so much, he could still recognize me without a doubt. This must be the connection between twins.
I stroked Fei Yu's familiar face. He was still half-asleep, and when he woke up, he probably wouldn't remember what happened tonight. But that didn't matter. I just needed to know that Fei Yu was doing well. The thin collar couldn't hide the bruises. I reached out and gently touched his snow-white neck. It seemed that Han Yitian treated him well.
"Brother?" Fei Yu reached out and hugged my waist. Years had passed, but Fei Yu hadn't changed much; she still had that stunningly beautiful face, as if I were seeing my mother again. It was so familiar, so moving, so exciting, yet also a little reluctant. But when you wake up, will you still remember me? We thought we'd never be separated, but even I have become a passerby in your life, coming and going in a hurry. The only thing I can do for you now is to protect your sky, to prevent anyone from polluting your pure heart. I circled him, looking at his head, his lips, and his pulse. Fei Yu stood there indifferently, watching everything I did. Then, I reached out and fed him a pill. He opened his mouth, no problem, no words, completely trusting my actions. "Brother? You're back?" Fei Yu looked at me with sleepy eyes.
"Brother? Why aren't you saying anything?"
"Feiyu, be good. I'll come back to see you on your wedding day. Feiyu is my precious darling. Forever." I smiled and continued playing that touching melody. To the sound of my flute, Feiyu turned her head like a wooden doll, turned around, and stepped back step by step into the courtyard that had nurtured me for fifteen years.
For a long time, my music didn't stop. Feiyu, sleep well tonight, because tomorrow you'll discover how beautiful life truly is. Looking at the beautiful starry night, I smiled. I sat on that ancient pine tree, listening to the gentle flow of water, and I smiled. Everything has changed; only the flowing water remains the same.
"Fei'er!" As I left, I seemed to hear my second brother's roar, and then the entire Mo family home was brightly lit. Sadly, I can never go back, brother.
"Feiyu, do you recognize me?" Mo Feihua sat in the main hall, staring intently at Mo Feiyu, who had disappeared overnight.
"Second Brother, what are you saying?" Fei Yu only had memories of being sixteen years old. He fiddled with the chopsticks in his hand, grinning as he looked at Han Yitian, who was frowning beside him. "Where did you run off to last night?" Mo Feihua questioned him like a criminal. "Second Brother?" Fei Yu, who had just regained consciousness, was startled by Mo Feihua's cold tone.
"Speak!" "Mo Feihua, you can be a little more patient. Feiyu has finally gotten a little better. You need to control your temper." Han Yitian looked at Mo Feihua impatiently. "Feiyu, be good, tell Brother Han how you disappeared last night." "I went to the back mountain. I heard a beautiful flute sound and ran over there without realizing it."
"And then?" Han Yitian looked at Mo Feihua.
"And then I don't remember," Fei Yu said innocently. She turned her head again. "Where's my brother? Why isn't he here? Is he still sleeping? I'll go wake him; there are his favorite steamed buns today." Fei Yu tilted her head. "It seems the flute music was real, not a dream. And it was specifically designed to lure Fei Yu there," Han Yitian sighed. He picked up Fei Yu and patted him. "Who could have used such a sophisticated soul-capturing technique to heal Fei Yu? Besides him, it could only be your older brother. Right, Fei Hua?"
"Damn it! Unfortunately, my martial arts skills are lacking. By the time I discovered it and rushed over, it had already vanished without a trace," Mo Feihua muttered to himself.
“He just doesn’t want to show his face. Otherwise, that voice would have a hypnotic effect on everyone except Fei Yu… It’s a good thing Fei Yu is alright,” Han Yitian said. “Why won’t he see us? Is he still resentful towards me?” Mo Feihua murmured.
"He must have his reasons. Sometimes, when you're in the world, you're not in control of your own destiny. He must have a reason. I think the best time is when I marry Fei Yu. Do you want to lure him out?"
