2. Mood

2. Mood

I released the mouse I had caught with the trap and then squatted down to watch. Sure enough, soon the snakes slithered out; they were truly cunning creatures. They slowly followed the mouse, waiting for the perfect opportunity. Unfortunately, they didn't know that the mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. I was that oriole.

I reached out and grabbed a grass snake. It was non-venomous, so I could probably keep it for a while. Looking at the snake in my hand, I felt a little better.

"What a fine mood you're in." A strange voice came from the doorway.

For the past five years, no one except me and Feiyu has come here. I looked in the direction of the sound and saw a boy standing in the half-open doorway. He looked about the same age as my second brother, around 18 years old.

I ignored him and turned to leave. As I passed by him, he grabbed my hand.

"You're a servant of the Mo family? How dare you be so ill-mannered." His contemptuous tone and arrogant expression suddenly made me feel uncomfortable. Especially his eyes, which seemed to see right through me.

I gathered all my strength in my dantian and focused it on my left hand. With a gentle flick of my finger, I aimed straight for his vital point. He was shocked and released my grip. I had finally broken free from his control.

He smiled and struck again. This time, he gave me no chance to resist. He grabbed my hands from behind and breathed into my ear. "You're Uncle Mo's apprentice?"

I couldn't be bothered with him.

"Truly arrogant. It's a pity your internal strength is good, but your martial arts skills are lacking refinement," he continued. "What's your name?"

"Could it be?" I gritted my teeth, feeling a sharp pain in my wrist.

"Is that so?" He released me, took a step back, and hesitated. I looked at him, completely baffled as to what the look in his eyes meant.

"My name is Han Beiming, remember that." He suddenly smiled, looking wickedly alluring against the backdrop of the full moon. I froze, my face involuntarily flushing. Afraid he would notice, I fled in panic. The pounding excitement in my heart lingered for a long time.

He was really handsome, with a tan complexion, broad shoulders, and slightly raised eyebrows with strong, defined lines. Moreover, seeing him was like seeing my older brother in his prime, with the air of someone who was so arrogant yet still elegant.

"Brother, what's wrong?" Fei Yu was half asleep when she opened her eyes and looked at me, who had just returned.

"It's okay, I want to sleep with you." I crawled into his blanket.

"Brother?" Fei Yu revealed a sly smile and hugged my waist. I hugged him back.

"Brother, I met two people today who seemed to resemble you, Big Brother," Fei Yu said, yawning.

My heart skipped a beat.

"One was named Han Yitian, and the other I can't remember. I think his name was Han something."

It must be Han Beiming. "And then?" I looked at him and stroked his hair.

"Seeing them makes my heart pound so hard, brother. Am I sick?" Fei Yu suddenly looked up, her bright eyes blinking rapidly.

My heart ached, and I didn't even know why. "...No. Feiyu, don't think about it anymore, go to sleep."

Feiyu is 13 years old this year. No one usually teaches him the difference between boys and girls, and I'm afraid he doesn't even understand his own gender anymore. I'm afraid he'll fall in love with a man with a girl's mindset. So, what should I do? No, Dad will never let Feiyu be a girl forever. I comforted myself and drifted off to sleep.

I kept yawning at the breakfast table.

"Fei'er, you look very listless. Are you sick?" Second Brother asked anxiously.

“No, my brother slept with me last night, and I was afraid I would have taken his blanket again,” Fei Yu said immediately.

"You're so old, yet you still like to stick to your older brother?" The second brother looked at Fei Yu gently, with a kind of doting affection.

"No, it was my brother who came to see me," Fei Yu pouted. "Besides, my brother isn't that much older than me, why do you all treat me like a little kid?"

"It's rare that he insists on coming to you; it's always you who pesters him relentlessly," the second brother said deliberately.

"Hmph!" Fei Yu ignored him.

“Feiyu has grown up too.” I looked at my second brother. “In most families, girls start looking for husbands as early as two years old.”

The second brother suddenly understood, and he smiled bitterly. "If Fei Yu doesn't want to, I can support him for the rest of his life."

"I will protect Feiyu for the rest of my life," I said firmly.

"What a deep bond between siblings!" A person appeared in the large hall.

"Brother Han?" Fei Yu called out happily.

I looked up at the person who had come. Usually, it was just my brothers and me having breakfast here; Dad was always busy greeting guests. My older brother took care of me and Feiyu.

"Feihua. Who is this? I didn't see him yesterday?" The newcomer looked at me, his eyes filled with surprise, disdain, and provocation. When did I offend this person? Strange.

"My younger brother, could it be? He's never liked crowds, so he rarely shows up." The second brother smiled.

"So this is the brother Fei Yu was talking about. You two are twins." He muttered to himself. "You really don't look alike at all."

"Everyone says that," I agreed. "Feiyu looks like her mother, doesn't she?"

"Really? But you don't look like Uncle Mo."

"Han Yitian, since you're here, let's eat together," my second brother quickly changed the subject. He looked at me and smiled encouragingly, offering some comfort to my closed heart.

I chewed on the freshly baked buns listlessly while serving soup to Fei Yu. "So lively? You didn't even call me, sneaking off by yourself. Han Yitian, you're such a bad friend." Han Beiming stepped in. He saw me, somewhat surprised, then smiled at his brother.

"Could it be my younger brother?" the second brother quickly introduced. "Fei'er is shy around strangers, so we rarely let him interact with outsiders."

"Nice to meet you," Han Beiming said, sitting down between me and Fei Yu. I frowned. I watched Han Beiming and Han Yitian fawning over Fei Yu, especially Han Yitian, who used sweet words to make Fei Yu happy. The atmosphere at the table was cheerful, except for my own uneasy feelings. Taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention, I quietly left.

"Why did you leave so high?" An uninvited guest disturbed my sweet dream as I slept in the tree.

"Me? You're not tall, are you?" I rubbed my eyes. "So it was you."

"You haven't answered my question yet. Why do you always change the subject instead of giving me the answer directly?" Han Beiming looked at me, his tone unfriendly, but his expression was very overbearing.

“No, your question is strange. When have I ever left without saying goodbye? Was it at breakfast? You were having such a pleasant conversation, and I had nothing to do. After eating, of course I went back to sleep. I don’t need to report that to you, do I?” I said, neither humble nor arrogant.

"Are you jealous?" He looked at me, pinpointing my sore spot.

"Jealousy?" I pretended to be clueless.

"You're jealous that your twin sister always gets the most attention, while you can only watch silently as everyone spoils her rotten."

"I didn't," I shouted. "I'm the older brother, how can I be jealous of my younger sister? Besides, Fei Yu is my most precious treasure."

Han Beiming stared at me silently, his sharp gaze piercing my entire body with pain.

"Fei'er." He sat down next to me. "May I call you that?" He stroked my forehead, as if my older brother had returned.

"Whatever." To hide my joy, I turned my head away, refusing to look at his handsome, radiant face. I was afraid he would see my cheeks, flushed with excitement.

"Then you have to call me by my name. Hurry up." Han Beiming reached out, turned my face, and forced me to look into his eyes. There seemed to be starlight hidden in them.

"Bei Ming," I whispered. ☆Fried☆Ice Cream☆Organization☆

"We're friends now. I'll take care of you from now on. If you need anything, just let me know." Han Beiming smiled, his smile dazzling and captivating. However, the moment he said we were friends, I felt a pang of disappointment, as if something was missing. What it was, I didn't know; it was like an elusive emotion, slowly drifting away with the falling petals in the spring breeze.
