22 Another wave rises
The Mo family, who had hung black cloths for six years, finally laid down their mournful grief, replacing them with vibrant red "double happiness" characters. Unbeknownst to many, they had recovered from their profound sorrow and could now let go of the past.
"Will he come?" Mo Feihua's voice trembled slightly. "How would we know if it's Fei'er? If not, it's just that some reclusive master saved Fei Yu."
"If it's him, he'll definitely come." Han Yitian hugged the excited Fei Yu. "Fei Yu, be good. If you see your brother again, you have to hold on to him no matter what. Okay?"
“No problem. My brother won’t disown me. He loves me the most,” Fei Yu said.
The deep-set man beside him sipped his tea silently, without uttering a word or showing any expression. He feared that the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.
Infiltrating the Mo family compound was easy, which annoyed the guards. What use was such vigilance against those with ulterior motives? I grumbled sullenly. At the same time, I made a new discovery: the tall Khitan man was there too. Was he also invited? It seemed so, given the high-ranking invitation he carried. The person accompanying him must be Liu Ya. Liu Ya was also disguised; I hadn't realized he could do it. However, his disguise wasn't as sophisticated as mine. I kept my head down, blending in silently. The courtyard where I had once found countless distinguished guests of the Mo family felt completely foreign to me, as I had previously only ever lived in my three-room brick house and the back hill. But now wasn't the time to tour my own home. I kept my eyes and ears open, observing which guests were genuinely there to offer congratulations, which were there to cause trouble, and which had ulterior motives. I was assigned to the outer courtyard, but because my status wasn't high enough, I couldn't witness Fei Yu and Han Yitian's current situation. I knew my second brother wouldn't let Han Yitian lead Fei Yu to toast, not just because Fei Yu was so beautiful and alluring, but also because of his poor health. When I took his pulse, I discovered that over the years, those doctors had been prescribing him a lot of expensive medications, but they only treated the symptoms, not the root cause. It seems they were all just taking advantage of the Mo family's reputation to swindle money. Poor Fei Yu.
Since they weren't exactly distinguished guests, there was no chance to take advantage of the situation. So, taking advantage of a moment when no one was looking, I quietly slipped into another courtyard, where I was pleasantly surprised. However, I didn't see my father come out to greet me. (That's because adversity dislikes your father and doesn't intend to let him make an appearance again.)
Mo Feihua and Han Yitian stood in the center, thanking the guests who kept bringing them expensive gifts. The second brother's eyes held no smile, only exhaustion. Han Yitian, though appearing smug, seemed to harbor some hidden emotions.
"It's terrible! Miss Feiyu is missing!" A maid rushed over in a panic. Instantly, everyone in the room was shocked, stunned, and dumbfounded. Mo Feihua and Han Yitian led the guards and many others out to search, while I ran alone to Feiyu's room.
"A clever tactic. What a pity..." I looked at the flustered person; he really didn't have the demeanor of a thief.
"Who are you?" He held up a dagger, and Fei Yu looked at me with tears in her eyes. He was dressed in a bright red wedding gown, and he looked very handsome.
"Stop nagging!" I said, and he fell to the ground upon hearing the sound.
"It's alright now." I loosened Fei Yu's rope. A wisp of mist drifted in from behind me, and I smiled, pretending to collapse from poisoning.
"It's you? Purple Mist?" Liu Ya held a strangely shaped sign in her hand, which seemed to be some kind of gossip.
"If it wasn't me, then who was it?" I smiled and shielded Fei Yu behind me.
"You actually have an affair with Miss Mo?" He looked at him with a chuckle.
"So, why do you want so many young girls to die?" I yawned.
"Why? I've spent so many years studying medicine with great care, all to bring my Yun Sheng back to life." His expression turned ferocious, and I felt Fei Yu trembling behind me as she drew closer.
"Yun Sheng? Your lover?" I sneered as I looked at him.
“She was poisoned by the Seven-Sound, Seven-Phase Poison, which requires the souls of forty-nine women of the same age to revive her.” He pulled out a dagger, his face ashen as he stared at me. The Seven-Sound, Seven-Phase Poison was extremely rare; even I had only heard of it. I hadn't been able to find this poison back then because it was simply too difficult to obtain. The poisoned person wouldn't die; it would be as if half-asleep, remaining in a deep sleep for about fifty years. Upon waking, their appearance would age and wither within a day. Generally, even if they did wake up, they would go insane and commit suicide because they couldn't bear the 50 years of blank memories and the changes in their appearance.
"Why did you fall for Fei Yu?" I looked into his eyes.
“Why not?” he chuckled, a hint of wickedness in his eyes. “Anyway, a girl my age is fine, and this Miss Fei Yu is already so beautiful; she might become even more beautiful when Yun Sheng wakes up.”
I shook my head. He's a complete madman.
"I'm sorry, Purple Mist. You're in my way. If you hadn't shown up, we could still be friends." With that, she pulled out a dagger and stabbed at me. With a thud, he fell to the ground; a knife had been thrust into his back.
"We meet again, Ziwu, is that you?" The tall Khitan man walked in, smiling broadly.
I frowned. "I thought you were with him."
“Normally I wouldn’t have bothered with what he did, but how could he hurt my savior? Besides, I haven’t even seen your true face yet, and it would be such a waste to send you to your death alone.” He clicked his tongue twice. “I saved your life, so I’ll pay with your mask.” With that, he lunged at my cheek again.
"Aren't you overestimating yourself?" I stood up gently, looking at the person who seemed to be having a cramp. "You think I'd be outmaneuvered by that idiot Liu Ya? You still don't understand my strength, it's really disheartening."
"What poison did you give me?"
"It's nothing, it'll be fine in the time it takes for an incense stick to burn. I only take off my mask when I'm happy, and no one can force me when I'm unhappy. This is a lesson for you, so think carefully before you touch me next time. It's getting late, I have things to do. You can suffer on your own." I said, pulling up the bewildered Fei Yu.
"Bride, your wedding time is almost here, come with me."
I pulled Fei Yu along, laughing and jogging. I don't know why Fei Yu was so happy to see me, and I didn't care whether he recognized me or not.
"Brother, are you hungry? We have your favorite vegetarian buns today!" Fei Yu suddenly said, which startled me.
"Why can you recognize me no matter how I dress up? Are you a tapeworm in my stomach?" I smiled and touched his nose.
"That's because we were born on the same day, month, and year!" Fei Yu tilted her head innocently.
"However, my brother has changed a lot. I prefer him as he used to be."
I was speechless. Although they recognized me, they didn't understand that it was just a facade.
"Let him go!" Second Brother roared like a shrew. He was clearly not as close to me as Fei Yu, even though I had called him Second Brother for sixteen years.
"Fei Yu!" Han Yitian glared angrily. Oh well, he didn't expect Fei Yu to recognize his old enemy anyway.
"Feiyu, are you alright?" A strange-looking person with an odd accent looked at Feiyu. I wondered where he came from. Feiyu looked at me, her eyes clearly showing confusion; she didn't understand either. Finally, Feiyu relaxed her shoulders.
I gently released Fei Yu's hand, gesturing for him to come over. Suddenly, Fei Yu burst into tears and clung to my leg, refusing to let go. He looked at me with snot and tears streaming down his face, appearing pitiful and pathetic, like an abandoned puppy. What was he up to now?
"Feiyu, get up. You still have to get married, stop making a scene," I said softly. Feiyu burst into a loud, earth-shattering wail.
At the same time, everyone in the courtyard was shocked, stunned, dumbfounded, and dumbfounded. Second Brother reached out, looking at me excitedly. Han Yitian was also very excited, while that strangely shaped guy was completely bewildered.
"Fei'er." A familiar voice echoed. I turned my head and saw a person emerge from the darkness, his face filled with deep affection. I was shocked. Why was he here?
