36. Prison
"How could this be?" I finally understood what Binghong meant when he said he was tough and resilient. I thought Binghong was there to protect me. I never imagined he was here to suffer in my place.
"Calm down. We need to understand the situation now." His calm voice still quieted me down. I can suffer alone, because I've gritted my teeth and endured it. But how can I drag others down with me? Although I'm good at using people, I've never intended for anyone to suffer for me. No, I absolutely cannot.
"Don't panic." As if he had an innate sense of smell, he quickly noticed my unease. "Right now, we need to think about how to avoid getting hurt."
"They've locked us up here, seemingly without intending to torture us, but they don't want us to have an easy time either." As a doctor, I know that locking a mentally sound, healthy person in a dark, damp, and confined space for ten days or half a month would corrupt even a highly skilled martial artist, let alone an ordinary person. None of the martial arts I've practiced contain any calming or soothing techniques, so I'm naturally anxious. I doubt Bingzi will. The only saving grace is that I can at least talk to him, so I won't be too depressed. Even though he's not very talkative and is also a very melancholic person.
"If Yao had noticed this by now..."
"Yes. He's found out and will do as we agreed, send a notification to Shaolin, and then..." I didn't finish my sentence. Because actually, I deserved it; this self-inflicted injury was too risky. I just didn't expect it would implicate an innocent person.
In the dark and gloomy cell, we sat on the damp and cold haystacks without saying much. I was feeling drowsy and wanted to sleep.
"Feiwu, don't sleep." He said this, then reached out to check my forehead temperature. I didn't have a fever, but the lack of sunlight made me very sleepy.
“We should still be near Kaifeng. The Demonic Cult probably won’t be able to capture us and bring us back to their headquarters. Besides, with you missing, everyone will be looking for you. The defenses are tight, and it will be very difficult to escape.”
"So should I be happy or worried? If I can't be used by the Demonic Cult, they won't want me to be used by the Alliance either. What will you do then?" I changed the subject. Actually, the Demonic Cult would probably resort to poison then. What you can't have, you can't let the enemy have.
"I'll protect you." His voice was resolute. But I smiled bitterly and shook my head. How could you protect me in this state? It's not that I think you're overestimating yourself, but I don't want your protection. I already don't want to involve you; how could I hurt you again?
"Why are you... so kind?" he sighed in the quiet prison cell.
"You've got it backwards, haven't you?" Anxious and frustrated, Nan'an asked. She found that talking to him now gave her a huge boost of confidence. "I'm not kind...not at all..."
“If you’re not kind, you won’t suffer for others,” he said calmly.
Still no movement. It seems those who kidnapped us haven't figured out how to take us back to the Demonic Sect, and are hesitating about what to do with us. This deathly silence unsettled me, but since it was my choice, I had no choice but to continue. I slept for a long time, not knowing what day it was. I only know that when I woke up, my head was resting on Bingzi's lap, which seemed quite comfortable. I didn't sit up immediately, but just looked at his sleeping face in the darkness, so peaceful. A person like him must be without desires, and one day he will surely achieve immortality. Although he seems to have no desires now, it feels almost like he has already achieved immortality.
"Awake?" He opened his eyes. Martial arts practitioners are light sleepers; they are easily awakened by the slightest sound.
I woke you up.
"Anyway, I've had enough sleep."
"How boring."
"Don't be bored anymore." His tone suddenly changed, and I saw the open door. The sunlight was blinding, and I could barely open my eyes.
"Young Master Feiwu, is that right?" The newcomer wore a mask, making it impossible to discern the expression behind the mask that seemed to be both smiling and crying. However, one could tell from his steady breathing that he was no ordinary person.
"I thought someone as talented as you wouldn't want to sabotage things. But you've repeatedly disrupted my plans. This is outrageous."
"A plan?" I sneered. "Does it mean you kidnapped Huixin and exploited his feelings for you, or that you betrayed Lianqi? You've hurt my friend time and time again, how can you expect me to stand idly by?" As I spoke, I felt Bingzi's hand grasp mine. I didn't understand why he did this; perhaps it was to give me the strength and courage to fight this villain.
"Purple Beauty is not mist, you've fallen into my hands today, yet you remain so aloof and arrogant. It seems there's absolutely no way someone like you could ever submit to my Demonic Sect."
Looking at the gleam in his eyes behind that strange mask, and hearing his sarcastic tone, sent chills down my spine, and made the hairs on the back of my face and neck stand on end.
"However, I've heard that your blood can cure all poisons. Even if you die, getting a valuable antidote wouldn't be bad. I've made a profit too." The cold tone conveyed determination.
"Blood that leaves my life can cure all poisons? You try it." I scoffed at him. In truth, my blood, at such a distance, certainly wouldn't kill him. If he really wanted to draw my blood, I'd be helpless. However, my blood is controlled by my will, so whether it's poison, antidote, aphrodisiac, or ordinary blood is entirely up to me. I don't know which of these things my blood will become after I die; I only know that if I could before I die, I would curse my blood to become the most ordinary blood, so that neither those who want to use it to save lives nor those who want to kill will be able to. Thinking this, a smile curved my lips.
"Alright, let's give it a try." He chuckled and swung his hand at me. Bingzi pushed me away from behind just in time, taking the fatal blow for me.
"You!" That palm strike was enough to kill me; it seems he's determined to kill me. But, Bing Zi.
"How are you?" I helped Bingzi up. He didn't seem seriously injured, but I knew the power of that palm strike; he was probably suffering severe internal injuries. His eyes grew colder, he stared intently at the arrogant man, giving it his all, afraid he might launch another sneak attack. I felt Bingzi's pulse and found it was somewhat abnormal, but not as severe as I had expected. Thank goodness. I patted my chest; my heart felt like it was about to burst.
"Truly a man of deep affection and loyalty. How long has it been since Prince Yelü abandoned you? And you've already seduced someone like him. Young Master Feiwu, are you saying you're a womanizer, or are you heartless and ungrateful?"
"Hmph." I ignored his extreme words. "And what about you? You're constantly caught in a tangled mess of regrets. Does that mean you're heartless? Or are you ruthless and cruel?"
"Heh, that little guy shamelessly came over himself. Whether I did anything or not, how can you blame it all on me?" He said, carefully observing Bing Zi. "I've never heard of anyone like you in the martial world. Young Master Fei Wu's old flames are all people of importance. You should give up on him as soon as possible, otherwise he won't be interested in you. Seeing that you are young and have good qualities, why not join our Demonic Sect? Your future is unpredictable."
"No. I only want Fei Wu," Bing Zi suddenly said. I looked at him in surprise. What did he mean? Did he mean he would protect me with his life?
"Sure! You can join the Demonic Sect, and I'll sever his tendons. You'll never have to worry about him abandoning you for another man. He'll be yours forever," Lu Buwang said smugly. "You can have whatever you want. How about it? Pretty good, right?"
I tugged at Bingzi's sleeve slightly, knowing full well that he couldn't be bribed, but I still felt that the atmosphere was a bit strange.
“How can a bird without wings fly freely?” Bingzi shook his head. “Feiwu is unique, and someone like you can’t understand her. Besides,” he suddenly turned his head, “Feiwu wasn’t fickle; it was Yelü Hong who wronged him first. Moreover, Feiwu and I have already pledged our lives to each other. Whether we rely on you or not, we will be together.”
What? What's this about guarding? I don't know anything about it. I was shielded behind Bingzi, and I looked at his back with some surprise. What was the meaning behind his words?
"How wonderful, you two are destined to be together even in life and death." Lu Buwang sneered. "I've noticed you two are becoming more and more compatible. Let's see just how strong your bond is."
"What are you going to do?" I looked at the instruments of torture he ordered his men to bring over, and a sense of panic welled up inside me.
“As long as I restrain one person, the other will be at my disposal. In that case, let’s see who surrenders first.” He said slowly, pulling out a strangely shaped object.
"Feiwu, step back." Bingzi pushed away my hands that were tightly gripping his shoulders.
