Chapter 14 Desert Crisis; Forced Engagement: Xu Lingzhao Falls into a Trap and is...

Xu Lingzhao was packing her things. Her latest mission was to go to a desert star in the western district to take down the rebel army's biochemical base that was developing Zerg. She carefully looked at the mission email on her personal computer, her gaze sweeping over the signature. It wasn't Li Fengguang, but her superior—General Xavier. She hesitated slightly and tried to call Li Fengguang, but he was offline.

This person is at odds with her, and most of her tasks are usually assigned directly by Li Fengguang... A moment of hesitation flashed across Xu Lingzhao's eyes. Military orders cannot be disobeyed. If Xavier makes a big deal out of this, she will not escape punishment. The number of planetary soldiers assigned to her this time is 300, which is too few.

Everything indicated that this mission was abnormal, but it was indeed an important mission that had been discussed in a meeting a few days ago. Xu Lingzhao took a deep breath, equipped herself, and headed to the destination with the 300 planetary soldiers. On the starship, Xu Lingzhao was wiping her Tang sword. As long as this battle was over, she could meet Chu Jingze. A smile finally appeared on her usually cold face.

Before setting off, she did not ask Ling Qianzhu to come along but instead left him at the military region.

Her military boots sank deep into the scorching yellow sand. Xu Lingzhao stared at the horizon, a familiar feeling welling up inside her. The memory of her ordeal on Desert Star was still vivid. All the readings on the detector were normal. The detector screen flashed frequently with green indicator lights that signified "safety," but Xu Lingzhao's heart remained uneasy. The red dot on the screen indicated the exact location of the biochemical base, which was still some distance away. She led the way, spreading her mental energy and watching every move in the desert.

The scorching sun beat down on them, and waves of heat rolled around them. The high temperature made the atmosphere in the team very heavy. The whole morning passed without any movement, but the time had come to the hottest period in the desert.

Xu Lingzhao licked his chapped lips, the taste of blood mixed with sand entering his throat. This mission even prohibited piloting mechs, because: mechs were expensive, and if they entered the sand, they would be difficult to repair and would easily expose their location; the high temperature would be a deadly disaster for the fully armed planetary army.

She repeatedly checked the mission location on her personal terminal. It was indeed this area, but there was nothing there. She looked at the 300 planetary soldiers. Their heavy combat uniforms were like ovens. One, two... soldiers kept falling silently onto the scorching sand, suffering from heatstroke and unconsciousness, their skin burning red and blistered.

Despair and doubt spread like a plague through the silent ranks. Xu Lingzhao requested to his superiors to cancel the mission, but was refused.

[Stay put, remain on alert.]

Her lips trembled slightly, and when she tried to apply again, she found that the communication had been cut off! Even wireless communication could no longer be used. All of this was so similar to what happened on Desert Star back then, but Lady Luck did not favor her this time. However, Xu Lingzhao made a quick decision and announced the evacuation of all personnel on the public channel.

The sky turned red at a visible speed, and the sand beneath our feet trembled! The Zerg had arrived! They emerged from beneath the sand, their rolling black tentacles piercing through the Planetary Army and swallowing them whole! Blood splattered onto the scalding white sand, the formation was instantly torn to shreds, and even more terrifyingly, the desert rapidly collapsed.

Xu Lingzhao kept dodging the black gall worms that crawled out of the ground. She was isolated and helpless. All she could see were gall worms. Xu Lingzhao, who had once watched this scene from the starship, had become the prey frantically dodging in the desert. Her desperate screams and roars instantly turned this desert into a living hell.

Xu Lingzhao raised a golden barrier for herself and the Planetary Army who were still fighting. Her powerful mental energy deterred the gall worms that wanted to attack them. Xu Lingzhao held a Tang sword with cold eyes. She plunged the sword into the gall worm's mouthparts. Shifting her weight, she suddenly squatted down and cleaved it in two. Sure enough, the weak point was the mouthparts. In the chaos, she screamed desperately, "Mouthparts! Attack the mouthparts! Everyone, get closer to me!"

Despite Xu Lingzhao's desperate fight with the remaining men, it was to no avail. The roar of fighter jets filled the air. Xu Lingzhao wiped the black blood from his face and looked up at the circling fighter jets. His last hope was completely crushed. They were the rebel fighter jets, which launched a frenzied attack on Xu Lingzhao and his group. Under the hail of bullets, the golden barrier that Xu Lingzhao had erected around them shattered, either torn apart by gall worms or blown to pieces by artillery shells. The people on the fighter jets toyed with them with pulse rifles as if they were playing with them.

Covered in wounds, Xu Lingzhao wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth. She had been blasted beyond recognition by the precision-guided artillery shells. Her combat uniform was blown open, exposing the blast-damaged skin underneath. The golden shield had long since shattered. She knelt on one knee, holding a Tang sword to support her swaying body. Strands of golden hair clung to her face. She struggled to open her eyes and saw a pair of military boots in front of her. She looked at them against the blinding sunlight.

It was Huo Qi. The childishness on his face had faded, replaced by a sharp edge. He leaned down and used his black-gloved hand to remove her hair from her face. His tone was flippant yet tinged with a barely perceptible infatuation: "Even with such injuries, your face is still beautiful." He lifted Xu Lingzhao's chin with his fingers and examined her closely: "It's been three years. I've really missed you."

Xu Lingzhao narrowed his eyes, removed his chin from his hand and stopped looking at him. He only heard him instruct his subordinates: "Put a collar that suppresses mental power on her and take her back."

Inside the treatment chamber, Xu Lingzhao soaked in the treatment fluid, feeling her wounds heal. Through the glass, she saw Huo Qi standing beside her, almost never leaving her side. He was flipping through a book, looking quite pleased. Xu Lingzhao stopped looking at him; her most important thing now was how to escape.

She remembered the effects of her blood and pheromones. Although Huo Qi had smelled her pheromones and developed feelings for her three years ago in the cave, she didn't know if pheromones had a corresponding expiration date. She closed her eyes; she couldn't use her mental power anymore. If she wanted to ensure her own safety, there was only one way.

The green light in the treatment pod turned on, the treatment fluid dissipated, and Xu Lingzhao came out of the treatment pod and was pressed onto the bed by the nurse. Huo Qi, sitting to the side, casually flipped through the pages of a book: "Ever since the first time I saw you, I've liked you. Later, I smelled your pheromones in the cave." He paused: "Since then, I seem to have become even more infatuated with you, but you actually like Chu Jingze."

He put down the book, got up and went to the bedside: "Tell me, in what way am I inferior to Chu Jingze?" His eyes were filled with anger, possessiveness and jealousy.

“Thank you for sparing my life. I love him, for no reason.” A resolute look appeared on her pale face: “These things cannot be compared.”

"I really hate your attitude. Alphas can have many Omegas, so why can't I be one more? Why, why?" Huo Qi became more and more agitated as he spoke. He leaned down and nuzzled Xu Lingzhao's cheek with the tip of his nose, wanting to kiss her, but she turned her face away. He chuckled softly, his laughter filled with obsession: "It's okay. I saved you, so your life is mine now. We'll have a long future ahead of us."

Huo Qi got up, straightened his military uniform, and left the ward. Xu Lingzhao was thankful that she hadn't used her "honey trap" from the start. Huo Qi didn't like her because of her pheromones; he genuinely liked her. If the infatuation attribute of his pheromones were added on top of that, it would be true hell. She was now in Huo Qi's territory, physically weak, unable to use her mental energy, and without even a decent weapon. She didn't even know where she was.

Everything needs to be planned carefully. Xu Lingzhao rubbed her temples and sighed. The West District was unreliable; she still had to rely on herself. After escaping from here, she planned to build her own army. She didn't believe Li Fengguang was unaware of that mission. Was it because her achievements were too great for his master? Xu Lingzhao's eyes revealed exhaustion. Even if Li Fengguang didn't know, she couldn't go back to the West District. She was with Huo Qi now.

It's too easy to be labeled a traitor. Her biggest worry right now is Chu Jingze. Xu Lingzhao is gambling that Lu Qianxue isn't that kind of person and won't break her promise. After all the fighting, Xu Lingzhao really feels tired at this moment. She fought for the West District and now she's ended up like this.

After a period of hospitalization, Huo Qi escorted her to his private villa. The moment Xu Lingzhao stepped out of the car, she could tell that the place was heavily guarded. She now had restraints not only around her neck but also on her wrists and ankles. She would be shocked whenever she used her mental energy. Not only her mental energy, but even the slightest exertion would trigger an electric shock. She looked at Huo Qi walking beside her, who showed her the screen with a pleased expression. The unpublished entry on it made her face darken completely. Huo Qi pointed to the entry with his slender finger and read it to her word by word: "Federal 3S genius Alpha Xu Lingzhao and Huo Qi, son of the Huo family of the Eastern District, are officially engaged."

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the ring on Xu Lingzhao's left ring finger. He forcefully removed it: "I'll have our wedding rings made to fit this size. How about that? Are you happy?" He smiled broadly but said things that Xu Lingzhao disliked: "What do you think the West District will think when they see this message? What do you think Chu Jingze will think when he sees this message?"

"Whatever makes you happy." Xu Lingzhao wasn't angry; instead, she smiled slightly. But it was this smile that infuriated Huo Qi. He snorted and walked into the villa: "Lock her up."

Xu Lingzhao was led into a bedroom by a servant. The door was closed, leaving her alone in the room. She sat on the sofa, feeling irritated. She was too weak, which was why she ended up being manipulated by others. Yes, what would Chu Jingze do if he saw this? Would he misunderstand her? Would he shed tears? Xu Lingzhao felt like a lamb to the slaughter.

She sat there from dawn till dusk until the door was pushed open and a drunken Huo Qi staggered in. Without a word, he threw himself into Xu Lingzhao's arms, his body reeking of pheromones.

He entered a passionate phase.
