Chapter 39 Xu Lingzhao settles scores with Ji Yao and others

Hearing the door open, she slowly loosened her clenched fists and raised her eyelids to meet the gaze of the person sitting opposite her.

Ji Yao's gaze swept over the iron box, and she felt a sudden throbbing in her temple. The object in front of her was all too familiar—it was the self-destruct button of the Zerg research base. Once the identity was verified, a simple press of the button would cause the base to explode and be destroyed.
This was an important part of her life's work. Ji Yao seemed to have guessed what Xu Lingzhao wanted to do. She stared intently at the iron box, her breathing becoming heavy.
Looking at her like this, Xu Lingzhao's lips curled slightly. There was nothing more despairing than having one's life's work destroyed by one's own hands, and this was only the beginning.

The metal box slowly opened, revealing a red button inside.
"Press it." Xu Lingzhao said in a commanding tone, and the screen in front of them lit up, showing images of the bio-weapon base in different locations.
Ji Yao raised her hand with difficulty, which had been hanging down. She felt her fingers touch a hard, smooth button. "Identity confirmed. Welcome to use."
She felt a cool touch on her fingertips, swallowed hard, and pressed down slightly with her fingertip. The red button retracted into its original position. "Therefore, the base's self-destruct device will explode in 10 seconds."

At the same moment, all the biohazard bases on the screen emitted huge explosions, mushroom clouds appeared on the screen, followed by towering flames and thick smoke billowing out.

"I'm crazy? I'm not as crazy as you." Xu Lingzhao said calmly, looking down at Ji Yao who was gritting her teeth. "When I wasn't around, did you let Pasifica go? Everyone from Hiteas is an accomplice, a murderer. There are no innocent people."
"You have to pay the price for what you do." Xu Lingzhao narrowed his eyes and glanced at Song Shuci beside him. The screen displayed red text: "Planet self-destruction program will begin in 10 seconds."
“Hityas’s weapons are really powerful.” Xu Lingzhao smiled and looked at Ji Yao. “Don’t you think so?”
The glaring countdown on the screen kept ticking. Ji Yao's eyes were bloodshot. She hadn't expected Xu Lingzhao to be so ruthless. All her resentment and anger filled her chest. She screamed and tried to pounce on Xu Lingzhao, "Stop! Stop!"
“Stop?” Xu Lingzhao frowned. “If I hadn’t come out alive, and you were standing here instead of me, would you have stopped? Ji Yao, how come I never realized you were so naive before?”
A huge explosion came from the light screen. Ji Yao felt a slight tremor from the ground. She calmed down, slumped into her chair, and didn't look up. If she won today, she wouldn't show any mercy, and she would eliminate them completely.
The adage "the victor is king, the loser is villain" is perfectly embodied in Ji Yao's life.
She lowered her head helplessly. After a long while, she felt a cold gun barrel pressed against the back of her head. She resignedly closed her eyes.
Xu Lingzhao pulled the trigger, ending the life of the former rebel leader in an interrogation room.
Blood splattered on her face. She threw down her pistol and walked out. In the empty corridor, Xu Lingzhao raised her hand to wipe away the drop of blood. At this moment, she felt no pleasure of revenge, but an indescribable sense of loss. She looked at her hands. In the end, she had become the person she least wanted to be.
However, she had to do this to protect the people she wanted to protect, and before leaving, she had to eliminate all the crises.
Footsteps sounded behind her, and Song Shuci stood beside her: "Commander-in-Chief, shall we go now?"

"Do you like the place I carefully selected for you?" Xu Lingzhao took the gun from Song Shuci and wiped the muzzle with a white handkerchief. The scene was deathly silent; no one answered or looked up.
However, Xu Lingzhao didn't care whether they responded or not. The main people who colluded with Ji Yao were all gathered here, while the others were executed by Lu Qianxue and the others personally or under their supervision.
"I should have killed you the first time I saw you." Chu Jingyi's voice echoed in the execution ground, his words as full of resentment and deathbed lament as Ji Yao's.

"Having worked together, I'll see you off." Xu Lingzhao pressed a pistol against Chu Jingyi's forehead.
After the gunshot, several startled crows flew overhead.
Song Shuci handed a clean handkerchief to Xu Lingzhao. She took the handkerchief and wiped the blood splattered on her face. She looked at the fiery clouds on the horizon. She had been through so much to get to where she was today. She rubbed her temples, feeling a little tired.
The door opened, and Xu Lingzhao saw a person standing in the doorway. He had his back to her, and his slender figure looked frail. She quickly stepped forward and put her arms around his waist from behind. "Why did you come here?"
Chu Jing felt her body pressed tightly against his back. He took the hand that was resting on his waist and said, "I...missed you a little."
Upon hearing this, Xu Lingzhao felt her melancholy dissipate considerably. A slight smile played on her lips as she lowered her head and took a deep breath against his neck. "So fragrant." She affectionately kissed his neck and wrapped her arms around his waist. "Perfect timing, now that you're here. You can take care of her."
