Chapter 51 Castile (Part Two) Miss Viv...
When Xu Lingzhao took the stage, there was a moment of silence followed by a huge burst of applause. Amid the clapping, she heard the nobles commenting on her.
"This number 8 is really good-looking, is she an Alpha?"
"It seems like you like it?"
"What? You don't like it?"
The sound of an ornate folding fan touching her nose rang out, and the low laughter of several people reached her ears. Xu Lingzhao frowned slightly, but there was something more important to do right now—Number Seven on the other side was already poised to attack.
Contestant number 7's well-defined muscles gleamed in the sunlight. After the referee signaled the start, he let out a low growl and slammed his heavy right fist into Xu Lingzhao's face. Instead of taking the hit head-on, she swiftly dodged to the side and then swung her fist precisely at his face. Contestant number 7 felt a momentary daze, but he quickly regained his composure.
Taking advantage of the momentum to dodge Xu Lingzhao's next attack, he swung his right arm at him again, wanting to end the fight quickly. He thought that No. 8's punch had only hit him by luck, but before the fist could land, Xu Lingzhao delivered a kick to his chest, the force of which forced him to stagger back several steps.
Contestant number 7's confident expression gradually froze. He thought to himself that he was 21 years old and practically invincible in this area, so why was he so embarrassed in front of a female Alpha who was not yet an adult? He was completely enraged and opened his arms, trying to forcefully hug Xu Lingzhao and knock her unconscious.
Instead of retreating, Xu Lingzhao launched a direct attack, striking his ribs with a right hook, slamming his temple with her left fist, and finally hitting his stomach. After this combination of punches, Number 7 was completely out of commission, collapsing to the ground foaming at the mouth.
Xu Lingzhao glanced at him sideways. It was only the first round, and she had been pretending, but she hadn't expected Number 7 to be so weak. He was indeed all show and no substance. However, in that moment when she relaxed her guard, she felt Number 7, though gripping the ground, do something with his hand towards her. An extremely thin needle appeared in the air.
The needle shot towards Xu Lingzhao at lightning speed, but it appeared in her eyes as if in slow motion. She dodged it by sidestepping. Was he trying to pull a dirty trick? She glanced at number 7, whose eyes flashed with malice. He stood up shakily as the referee counted down. At that moment, Xu Lingzhao no longer concealed her strength but approached him with lightning speed, kicking number 7 in the face with her left leg.
thump--.
Number 7 collapsed completely and never got up again. The entire audience erupted in applause. Those sitting in the VIP seats looked at Xu Lingzhao with shining eyes, each having their own ideas.
Xu Lingzhao returned backstage, amidst countless envious and malicious glances. Just as she was about to take out her clothes from the closet to change, a maid with her head bowed walked up to her and whispered, "Greetings, brave warrior. I am Miss Meka's maid. She would like to invite you to the small garden to keep her company."
Xu Lingzhao's face darkened at the speed of their arrival, but she had no right to refuse and could only bite the bullet. If she angered the noble lady, she would lose her qualification to participate in the knight selection competition. She nodded slightly, "I'll be there shortly."
After changing her clothes and tidying her appearance, Xu Lingzhao followed behind her maid, who opened a door for her. The scene inside made her pause slightly; it was like two completely different worlds. Beautiful flowers were planted neatly in rows, including some rare and precious ones. The path was carpeted, and the sound of flowing water from the fountain made her blink slightly.
Maids carrying delicious food kept passing by her. Outside this door, there were many people like her from the lower class who couldn't even get enough to eat. Yet, this intricately crafted carpet was now under her feet. The maid said she was going to take her to the small garden to keep someone company, but Xu Lingzhao's intuition told her that the destination was not the small garden but a small villa.
They were currently in a forest that had been preserved in its original state. Only she, her maid, and a few guards walked along a small path. They seemed to be used to this kind of scene, but Xu Lingzhao, with her keen hearing, sensed something was wrong. She heard a very faint cry for help, which was not close.
She lowered her eyes. This place was off-limits to anyone but nobles. If the other party was of higher status than Miss Mecca, she could avoid being forced. Almost instantly, Xu Lingzhao decided to take a gamble. Taking advantage of the maid's inattention, she ran at full speed toward the direction of the cries for help, completely ignoring the small cuts on her arms and face from the leaves.
She felt the cries for help getting closer, but then abruptly stopped. She observed her surroundings and realized it was a hunting ground. She also sensed insectoids nearby. She hid behind a tree, slowing her breathing and trying to keep her presence as low as possible. Sure enough, the next second, a human-faced spider appeared in her line of sight, but it was a spider larva.
But for the delicate nobles, it was a deadly threat. Xu Lingzhao's eyes searched around for anything useful, a sharp stone or a pointed branch would do. A small, reflective object caught her attention. She squatted down and gently removed the fallen leaves, revealing a delicate little dagger lying quietly on the ground.
Without hesitation, Xu Lingzhao picked up the dagger. She looked at the human-faced spider again and found that it had stopped. Its head, covered with eyes, was shaking incessantly, as if it were spinning silk. She kicked the bushes in front of her, and the rustling sound attracted the spider's attention, but it only glanced back at Xu Lingzhao.
She turned back to continue her work, but then she sensed something was wrong. She quickly approached the spider with a dagger, grabbed its spider leg, and slammed it to the ground. Then she stabbed its soft abdomen with the dagger, pressing down hard with her wrist. The abdomen was sliced in two. The spiderling kicked its legs twice and then fell silent.
When they got closer to Xu Lingzhao, they discovered that in front of the human-faced spider was a huge pit, and inside the pit sat a noble lady in a long gold dress. Her arms and legs seemed to be thin and injured, and she was looking at Xu Lingzhao with tears in her eyes. Her injuries were serious, and the smell of blood was overwhelming.
Xu Lingzhao thought for a moment, then looked at the slightly chilled human-faced spider. Even in death, it could still produce silk. She pulled out white spider silk directly from its mouth, twisted and knotted it, and soon a finished spider rope appeared in her hand. She made a noose and lowered it into the pit. The noble lady understood and put the noose around her waist.
Once everything was ready, Xu Lingzhao tightened the rope from above and began to pull her up. He pulled her up with almost no effort, and only then did she notice that the noble lady's arm was cut, and quite deeply. Xu Lingzhao squatted down with his back to her, saying, "I'll carry you out."
The noblewoman wasn't coy; she avoided looking at Xu Lingzhao's glands, her face pale, her voice trembling, "What's your name? How did you know I was here?"
"My name is Xu Lingzhao. I heard your cries for help, so I knew you were here." Xu Lingzhao carried her towards the entrance. This noble lady seemed quite approachable and didn't have that arrogant air about her.
"Hiss...why do I feel so sleepy?"
"You've lost too much blood. Don't sleep, or you won't wake up." Xu Lingzhao's tone was flat as she stated the facts. But then, thinking that she could help her avoid some trouble, she spoke again, "Don't sleep. You can talk to me, for example, why you fell into the pit."
Hearing this, the noble lady, who had been drowsy, suddenly perked up a bit. "It must be my half-sister's doing. I was only brought back from the countryside not long ago. She was just jealous of how good Father was to me, so she tricked me into coming here to kill me." But she only perked up for a moment before wilting like a vegetable. "However, if you hadn't found me, I probably would have really died here."
"Don't be discouraged, you're still alive." Xu Lingzhao's eyes darkened instantly as he listened to her accusations, but he quickly regained his composure. The noble lady, however, seemed to have opened a floodgate of words and began to introduce herself, "My name is Viv Gene, and my father is Duke Gene. You can call me Viv."
“Yes, Miss Viv.” Xu Lingzhao responded to Viv’s words. She carried her out of the hunting grounds. They hadn’t gone far when they encountered a group of guards. The captain of the guards spread out the portrait in his hand and compared it with the portrait. He then knelt on one knee. “Respected Miss Gene, thank goodness, you don’t have it.” He then stood up after receiving a look from Viv.
Seeing this, the other guards tried to take her off Xu Lingzhao's back, but she refused. The doctor then gave her some emergency treatment. Xu Lingzhao carried her on his back and, guided by the guards, walked to the magnificent carriage. A maid took Viv from the carriage, but Xu Lingzhao was also required to accompany the carriage for investigation.
She nodded, knowing it was a necessary procedure, but it didn't matter. With this life-saving grace, Viv would always help her solve her problems. Xu Lingzhao followed beside the carriage, and she caught a glimpse of Mecca's maid watching from the side.
Arriving in front of a castle, this was Xu Lingzhao's first time observing it up close. The main structure was made of rose sandstone, with each stone polished and fitting together perfectly. The walls and pillars were covered with exquisite reliefs, with angels and elaborate patterns intertwined, giving the entire castle a magnificent and solemn appearance.
However, she was led by a servant through a side door, through a dark corridor to an interrogation room, where the interrogator, who had been waiting for a long time, was wearing a monocle and holding a quill pen to take notes on their conversation.
After a brief conversation, the interrogator frowned slightly. "You mean, you heard Miss Viv's cries for help from a place not too close to the hunting grounds?"
"Yes, I can prove it."
