Chapter 79 Castile (30) Solo; First in line to succeed...

Not only Mu Lei, but everyone else also felt their movements were restricted. While everyone was wondering, Yu Yu seemed to sense her presence and looked in one direction.

Sure enough, outside the bustling crowd, Xu Lingzhao's golden hair fluttered in the air, snowflakes fell on her shoulders, and her fair and rosy skin contrasted sharply with the others.

Her gaze remained as calm as ever.

Xu Lingzhao made her way through the crowd to Alistair's side. She bowed to him in a knightly salute and said, "Your Highness, I'm back."

In Alistair's eyes, Xu Lingzhao's actions were tantamount to establishing his authority, which softened his expression considerably. Alistair nodded slightly and said, "You've come."

Mu Lei's eyes darted back and forth between the two. It seemed that Alistair was holding a trump card. In Solo, where strength was paramount, his gaze toward Xu Lingzhao gradually filled with murderous intent.

"Hiss—" Mu Lei's face was punched to the side again. Timothy threw another punch. "Clang—" She cracked her knuckles and winked at Yu Yu and Feng Sui.

The three of them understood each other's thoughts in a moment.

"Serves you right for being so arrogant." Yu Yu kicked Mu Lei in the stomach. As soon as she made her move, the remaining hundred or so people immediately joined in, after all, they were also holding back their anger.

The Knights of Solo are now completely immobilized. They are unable to fight back or send messages. The entire order is devoid of any cohesion. Those being beaten are groaning on the ground, while those who did not participate either stand by and watch or go back to their camp to sleep.

Among them, the ones who were most arrogant just moments before were beaten the worst. Yu Yu and the others were very measured and didn't kill anyone. They only hit the places that hurt the most, and from time to time they would shout, "Isn't it supposed to be about strength? Why don't you stand up and say something?"

The scene quickly descended into chaos. Alistair stood aside, not participating, waiting for the inspector general, whom Mu Lei had mentioned as being "out of town," to appear.

He couldn't believe such a huge mess had occurred in the Knights' Camp; he was unaware of it.

Xu Lingzhao stood beside Alistair, her face expressionless, but her mind was on Chu Jingze. She could now sense not only his location but also his emotions.

At this moment, he was sleeping soundly. Pregnant women do tend to be sleepy. Omega looks adorable when he's asleep. Xu Lingzhao was thinking to himself that he should give him a romantic wedding before his belly got any bigger.

After two hours of one-sided beatings, Alistair led everyone directly to the knight camp where Mu Lei was located. Timothy distributed supplies, and the exhausted knights finally got to eat hot food and have warm knight's clothes and blankets for the night.

Yu Yu invited the group to sit together. She warmed up the wine and poured it for everyone. "Finally, we can drink hot wine," Asoron exclaimed, as he cut up some meat and handed it to Feng Sui, who was standing next to him.

Xu Lingzhao noticed their actions and understood immediately. Timothy leaned closer to her and lowered his voice, "Ryan, how is he?"

"It's fine." Xu Lingzhao sipped his warm wine, his tone tinged with a hint of sarcasm. "I often sit by the window with your photo in my hand, reminiscing about you."

These words made Timothy, who had never had any romantic experience, blush instantly, and she stammered, "Ah...I see." She stuffed a piece of meat into her mouth, trying to change the subject, "Do you think the Inspector General will show up?"

"We should be able to see him tomorrow morning."

-

As dawn broke, Xu Lingzhao left a small lamp on the bedside table and a glass of water on the bedside table in case Chu Jingze woke up and couldn't drink it before going back to sleep.

Chu Jing opened his eyes and subconsciously looked up. There was no familiar Alpha face, only an empty pillow. His heart immediately ached.

An indescribable soreness spread through his heart. He wiped away the tears that streamed from the corners of his eyes. Despite the warm bed, he felt cold at this moment, even though the Alpha had only been with him for seven days.

But he had already grown accustomed to Xu Lingzhao's warm embrace and her soft whispers.

Even though they had only been apart for less than ten hours, longing for him surged like a raging flood.

A wave of nausea washed over him, and Chu Jingze propped himself up and leaned over the bed to vomit. His movements attracted the attention of a maid, who gently patted his back and immediately handed him a towel and a glass of warm water after he finished vomiting.

Ryan, who got up early, also appeared at the door. His eyes were wide open, his gaze shifting back and forth between Chu Jingze and the warm towel. When he was a concubine, he had seen many pregnant women in the palace.

"That's amazing! Getting pregnant in just seven days!" Ryan exclaimed. He immediately sat down on the edge of the bed, put his arm around Chu Jingze's shoulder, and asked, "Is there anything you want to eat? Sweet, sour, or spicy?"

Chu Jingze, with tears still clinging to the corners of his eyes from vomiting, patted his chest gently. He realized for the first time that early pregnancy could be so uncomfortable, and a feeling of grievance welled up in his heart.

His own Alpha wasn't even there for him. Although he knew she had no choice but to leave, the pregnancy symptoms made him unable to stop overthinking.

She is thousands of miles away.

Will she meet other people? Will she meet other people? Will she meet an Omega who can help her?

Looking at himself, he felt utterly worthless. He even wondered why Xu Lingzhao liked him, and what was so special about him. This lack of security left him feeling extremely frustrated.

After a long pause, he replied to Ryan, "I want to eat strawberry cake."

The maid closed the door. The room was furnished with many more warm facilities than before. His fingers caressed the necklace Xu Lingzhao had given him, and images of him and the Alpha kept flashing through his mind.

She was gentle and considerate towards herself.

She will patiently explain because of my sensitivity and suspicion, and gently hug me when I shed tears. If we disagree, she will definitely agree with my opinion.

Even some of his own demands were unreasonable.

She would always agree.

Chu Jing buried himself in the blankets, clutching her clothes tightly in his arms. He was pondering a question: why did she love him? His gaze drifted toward the bookshelf beside the bed.

There were many books there that the Alpha had bought to amuse him, including quite a few novels.

A guess slowly rose in her mind: could it be because she looked like the person she used to like that she was so nice to her?

"So annoying, I miss her so much."

Love is like this: love can make a gentle person become sensitive and suspicious; love cannot tolerate the existence of a third party; love can drive people to hold on tightly by any means necessary.

When Ryan brought over the strawberry cake, Chu Jingze was surprised to realize that it was already noon. He looked dejected and got out of bed to taste the cake that Ryan had made especially for him.

"So sweet!" Chu Jingze's originally droopy eyes lifted up because of the delicious desserts. He looked at Ryan with undisguised surprise in his eyes, "So eating sweets really can make people feel better."

“I think so too. When I was bored in the palace, I would make some desserts in the small kitchen, but they were always bad and I would just make them haphazardly.” Ryan propped his chin up and watched Chu Jing eat the desserts in small bites. He continued, “I heard that in the early stages of pregnancy, mood swings become more intense, and the glands are also more sensitive. At times like this, it’s best for an Alpha to be by your side.”

"Oh, if spring comes, we can take a walk in the little manor."

“Taking a walk,” Chu Jing repeated the two words. He suddenly realized that he hadn’t left the house in a long time, and the only friends he could talk to were Viv and Ryan.

For a fleeting moment, he thought he was Xu Lingzhao's kept canary, but the thought vanished in an instant, as his status did not allow him to go out and meet people.

He placed the cake plate on the table, his thoughts drifting again. Perhaps it was because his life was too monotonous that he missed his Alpha so much?

So Chu Jing made a bold decision. He looked at Ryan, his tone clearly full of excitement, "Ryan, I want to make desserts with you."

Inside the ancient and solemn castle, Duke Gene sat in the main seat. There were only three people in the entire hall: him, the priest, and Viv. Duke Gene was old, and the death of Viv had left him exhausted and with no time to attend to anything else.

All I want is to enjoy my retirement.

As the only outstanding daughter by his side, Viv was the obvious choice to inherit the title.

With the priest in witness, Duke Gene designated Viv as his one and only first in line to the title, after his death.

Viv Gene will inherit his title and become Duchess Gene.

Viv knelt on the ground, her forehead touching the earth to show her piety. This was the moment she had been looking forward to the most, which meant that from now on she would not only have enormous wealth but also a prominent social status.

She is no longer the illegitimate daughter that anyone could trample on.

The priest helped Viv up, his eyes filled with affection. He said, "Duke Gene said that your sister has just passed away, and it is not appropriate to hold a banquet to celebrate your becoming the heir at this time. Duke Gene will hold a banquet for you at a better time later."

“Yes.” Viv bowed her head and thanked the priest. Under Duke Gene’s watchful gaze, she slowly walked away.

In the instant she turned around, a smug smile appeared on her face; even though she was dressed in black mourning clothes, it couldn't hide her ambition.

Duke Gene had no other heirs, as all his other illegitimate children who had been living away from home had been secretly dealt with by her.

Naïve, naive, innocent, and sincere are her greatest protective shields.

She walked out of the church, and amidst the heavy snow, a ray of warm sunlight shone on her pure and innocent face.

Sincerity, sometimes, can be faked.

The maid beside her quickly followed her steps. She timidly looked up, and for a moment, she thought that Miss Vina was not dead. Their backs looked so alike.

"Who is that?" Viv asked, looking at the person who appeared at the door, her face half-hidden by an intricately crafted fan.

“It’s Percy Monmo, the Queen’s concubine sent to offer condolences,” the maid whispered.

Percy was wearing a little black dress with lace trim that made him look particularly charming, but this charm was clearly inappropriate for the occasion.
