Chapter 38 A Comforting Vow; "Thank you"
"Don't cry, don't cry, it's alright now." Xu Lingzhao gently comforted the person in his arms, kissing his forehead like Matriarch had done, and gently rocking his body. At this moment, silence spoke louder than words.
After a long while, Chu Jing calmed down. He reached out and grasped Xu Lingzhao's hand, which was resting on his waist. He sobbed softly, raised his red eyes and looked at the person gazing at him tenderly. He whispered, "Thirsty? I want...water."
He heard Xu Lingzhao chuckle softly, his face flushing slightly: "You can't laugh at me."
"Hmm? I wasn't making fun of you, baby. I just think you're cute." She reached out and gently stroked the tip of his nose. "I thought you were made of water." Her tone was affectionate. She lifted Chu Jingze off the bed with one arm, picked up a glass of water with her slender fingers, filled it with warm water, and gently pressed it against Chu Jingze's pink lips: "Open your mouth, I'll feed you."
Chu Jing blinked and obediently opened his mouth to take a small sip of warm water. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Xu Lingzhao staring straight at his lips, his gaze too direct. He gently pushed the water glass away and lowered his head: "Why are you staring at me?"
"I miss you." Xu Lingzhao's answer was short and direct. Her gaze swept towards the bathroom: "I'll help you take a bath." Without waiting for his reply, she put him in the bathtub, her fingers deftly unbuttoning his clothes. Warm water covered his body, and there was no lust in her eyes. She simply reached out and touched the scratch marks on his body where he had been restrained.
"Does it hurt?" Xu Lingzhao's eyes were filled with self-reproach. If she had arrived a moment later... She didn't continue thinking about it. Even if that had happened, she would erase that memory for Chu Jingze. "It's my fault for not protecting you." Warm breath spread across their faces, and her hand caressed his soft cheek.
Chu Jing tilted his head and pressed his face against her palm, holding her hand tightly. "Then... will you despise me?" he asked slowly. "I have no memories of the past, I don't know why you like me. In other people's eyes, I'm useless and can't help you at all." He remembered what Ji Cunxi had said, and looked down to avoid Xu Lingzhao's gaze. "You still have to protect me all the time. Am I a burden to you?"
Xu Lingzhao suddenly pulled him into her arms, burying her face in the crook of his neck: "I have never disliked you. I only feel that I am very lucky to have you. Losing your memory is okay. We have a lot of time in the future." Her voice was muffled. "I want to become strong in order to protect you. You have never been a burden to me."
She reached out and intertwined her fingers with his: "When I was still a lowly citizen, you were the son of the Federal Commander-in-Chief, but we still came together. We used to see each other very little, and you waited for me for four years. You were never a useless person, but a very gentle and brave one."
She pressed the back of his hand to her heart: "I swear I will never make you wait again. Whenever we meet, I will fall in love with you."
He could hear Xu Lingzhao's heartbeat through the back of his hand, and felt her burning body temperature in his palm. Chu Jing was speechless. He looked up and kissed her lips, and she responded passionately.
The water rippled, water overflowed from the bathtub, and suppressed moans escaped between their intertwined lips and teeth.
Xu Lingzhao carried the limp Chu Jingze out of the bathroom. His eyes were sparkling, and he shyly buried his head in her arms. The two lay on the bed, embracing each other tightly.
Chu Jing reached out and stroked Xu Lingzhao's earlobe: "Can you tell me what you've been through?" She seemed to have become more domineering than before, and there seemed to be an indescribable sadness in her eyes.
Xu Lingzhao let him stroke her earlobe, her voice low and husky: "Aren't you sleepy?"
"I'm not sleepy." His eyes were bright; he wanted to know what had happened more than he was sleepy. Perhaps this is what it's like to love someone: to know everything about them and to want to become one with them.
Seeing his curious expression, Xu Lingzhao smiled slightly, rested her chin on his fluffy hair, and whispered about everything she had experienced in Passfia, including her mother, her mental power, and her plan to take revenge on the Zerg.
The Insect Queen is scattered across different planes. If she goes to another plane to kill her, she will lose her memory and have another identity. She looked down at Chu Jingze, unwilling to make him wait for her again.
Perhaps, she could use her primordial power to take him to other planes. After eliminating the insect queen's clones, his memories would be restored. Once she eliminated Hityas and her accomplices, this world would become her fixed anchor point.
However, everything still needs time to plan and ensure that nothing goes wrong. Xu Lingzhao closed her eyes. Her mother had given her half of her original power. Her spiritual sea was filled with spiritual power. At this moment, she was powerful enough. Her only goal now was to kill the insect queen.
"Do you want to find Passfia?" Chu Jing asked her softly, feeling a pang of heartache. He realized how much she had endured at such a young age.
“Of course I want to, but not now.” She hugged the person in her arms tightly. “After everything settles down, Mom said I will be able to sense Passfia’s location, and you will definitely like it there.”
"I definitely like your hometown." A smile appeared in Chu Jing's eyes; she truly cared about him.
The next morning.
Xu Lingzhao got up and dressed. She leaned down and kissed the still-sleeping Omega until he opened his eyes. She then released his lips and said gently, "Get up. Today is an important day."
Watching Chu Jingze's back as he washed up, Xu Lingzhao turned on her personal terminal. After a busy night, a series of green emails popped up in her communication system. She opened them one by one. This day should have come long ago. She had been too soft-hearted before.
Inside a hospital ward.
He Zaining slowly opened her eyes. Pei Zhenwei sat beside the hospital bed, her hand supporting her cheek, the dark circles under her eyes showing her exhaustion. She looked intently at the person in front of her. They hadn't spent so much time together like this in so long; they used to be inseparable.
When I first learned of Pei Zhenwei's betrayal, I was more heartbroken than angry. But she wasn't acting voluntarily; she was being controlled by the Zerg. Perhaps, if it weren't for that crystal core, she would have died long ago in the border forest.
Pei Zhenwei fused well with the crystal core, without any abnormal mutations. She collaborated with Jin Chenyu to develop the serum, which somewhat redeemed her earlier actions. However, her entire gland was removed, and now...
She poked Pei Zhenwei's wrist with her finger, and Pei Zhenwei suddenly opened her eyes, her voice filled with surprise: "You're finally awake. I thought you were going to die from being injured like that."
"I won't die so easily." He Zaining smiled on his pale face. "Thanks to Zhaozhao's timely appearance, otherwise... I really would have..."
"Stop! Don't say anything unlucky!" Pei Zhenwei covered her mouth, as if she had thought of something. "What do you plan to do with that Omgea? Ling Zhao didn't kill her, saying he'd leave her for you to deal with."
He Zaining's eyes dimmed. She couldn't quite define her feelings for him; she hated his ruthlessness, but...
Before I could think any further, there was a knock on the door, and a person slowly walked in. She was wearing a long white dress, and the worry in her eyes was obvious.
"Lin Yue? What are you doing here?" He Zaining sat up. She wanted to break off her engagement with Ji Siyu, but now she was in the ward.
Pei Zhenwei knew about the engagement between the two women, so she coughed lightly and stood up, saying, "You two talk first."
"Ai!" He Zaining wanted to reach out and stop her, but found that Pei Zhenwei had run away as fast as she could. The ward door was closed, and He Zaining really didn't know how to face Lin Yue.
Seeing her embarrassment, Rinzuki took the initiative to sit down next to her in the ward. Her gentle voice rang out in the room: "How are you feeling? Are you feeling better?"
"Yes, I'm much better." He Zaining nodded, then asked hesitantly, "Did Uncle Lin send you?"
Lin Yue shook her head: "I came here of my own accord." She paused, "I know you want to break off our engagement, I just wanted to ask you why." She lowered her head. She and He Zaining were childhood sweethearts who grew up together, but unlike He Zaining, she genuinely liked her.
“Xiaoyue, I…” He Zaining hesitated, but ultimately said nothing.
"He treated you like that, do you still like him?" A hint of disappointment flashed in Lin Yue's eyes, and her hesitation was perhaps the answer. "You don't need to be in a difficult position, I agree to annul the engagement." A faint smile appeared on her pale face.
In He Zaining's memory, Lin Yue had always been such an understanding person. However, feelings are something that cannot be forced. He Zaining looked into her eyes and said, "Thank you. You have always understood me, but perhaps it is precisely because we are too similar that we are only suitable to be friends."
Pei Zhenwei sat with Ling Qianzhu at the door. She subconsciously touched the back of her neck, which was empty. She had gone from a 2S Alpha to a Beta. She let out a breath, feeling a little disappointed, but it was best to be alive. She still had many things to do. Jin Chenyu told her that perhaps they could research artificial glands in the future.
It's some kind of consolation.
A lot has happened during this time. Pei Zhenwei feels that she has become more open-minded about many things since she came back from the brink of death. Having friends and family around her is actually quite nice. Besides, she is not a cripple.
Ling Qianzhu watched her series of actions with mixed feelings, but the next second...
Ling Qianzhu swiftly caught a man who was about to fall. He was pale and dazed, and almost collapsed to the ground. Fortunately, Ling Qianzhu caught him: "Are you alright?"
She lowered her head and asked with concern. He looked up and met her gaze. Ling Qianzhu felt as if her breath had stopped. His eyes... were so beautiful. His face was pale, his eyes were red, and he stammered, "I... I'm fine... Thank you." He struggled to get out of Pei Zhenwei's embrace.
Ling Qianzhu then realized that she hadn't helped the person up, but had hugged them. She quickly let go, saying, "Ah, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I..."
Before he could finish speaking, he suddenly closed his eyes and fainted in her arms. Ling Qianzhu looked up and met Pei Zhenwei's gaze. After a few seconds...
