Chapter 25: Free and Easy to Use
Yan Xing walked in right after him. Lu Chenyang saw him and said, "Young Master, you haven't eaten yet, have you? Let's eat together. I made some noodles."
Yan Xing looked at him in surprise: "You can cook? Where's your little maid?"
"She's busy." Lu Chenyang said, "Today I'll let you taste my cooking skills."
Lu Chenyang went to the kitchen and cooked another bowl of noodles. Yan Xing watched him busy in the kitchen. His back was straight, but his movements were very quick, without any of the pedantry of a scholar.
This was the first time Yan Xing began to appreciate Lu Chenyang.
Lu Chenyang quickly prepared a bowl of noodles, and the two of them ate at the table in the kitchen.
Lu Chenyang asked, "How did your work go today?"
Yan Xing said: "Don't worry, I won't hold you back."
Lu Chenyang's eyes flashed. Sure enough, Yan Xing was definitely prepared. The emperor would not trust Yan Xing and would definitely send people to keep an eye on him. Yan Xing knew that these people were following him all the time and he had a way to silence them.
He knew that the foundation built up over the years by the Duke of Zhenguo's Mansion would not be destroyed just like that.
There is nothing wrong in building a good relationship with Yan Xing.
Lu Chenyang muttered, "How stingy! What if you tell me? Ask me, ask me now, how I'm doing! I'll definitely tell you."
Yan Xing also wanted to know: "How did you convince Dewey? Did he agree to let you train the troops so quickly?"
Lu Chenyang chuckled and said mysteriously, "I wrote an article about the garrison, which details the current situation of the Lingnan garrison." He pointed at himself and said, "Me! I'm the first person in history to pass the sixth place in the imperial examination. I'm a brilliant writer, talented, and my writing is brilliant..."
Yan Xing had no doubt about this; his writing was indeed excellent, gripping, and highly inspiring. While in the capital, he had written several articles about the great achievements of the Zhenguo Mansion, stirring up the passions of the literary world, who felt that the Mansion had suffered a great injustice.
So it’s not unfair at all that the emperor wants to deal with him.
Dewey didn't care about anything, but he also wanted to be famous. If Lu Chenyang's article got out, he would lose face.
Lu Chenyang also explained the greater good to Du Wei. He said that Du Wei didn't care about these people anyway. Now someone was helping him take care of them, and if he had military merit in the future, it would still be his. Why not do it? Du Wei finally agreed.
However, it can be seen from this how little Dewey cares about the matter. No wonder the garrison is in such a mess.
Lu Chenyang smiled brightly: "Then let's go to the military camp tomorrow? We still have to rely on the prince for this."
Yan Xing snorted softly: "You trust me so much?"
Lu Chenyang nodded heavily: "Of course! I never doubt the Yan family's ability to lead troops. These soldiers are blessed to be taught by the prince."
He thought to himself, what can he do? He doesn't even know how to train soldiers. You know, this is a place where even asking for directions costs money! He didn't spend a penny, and he got a young general from a military family to help him train his troops for free. All he can give is trust.
Yan Xing had no idea that in Lu Chenyang's eyes, he was mainly free and useful.
Yan Xing's lips curled up slightly, and he was obviously very fond of this.
Lu Chenyang added, "You've worked hard leading the troops. I'll go add an egg for the prince."
He could still afford two eggs for one penny.
Lu Chenyang stood up and turned to light the fire, put oil in the pan and start frying eggs, not afraid of trouble at all.
Yan Xing benefited greatly from it.
The next morning, Yan Xing ran into Lu Chenyang again while doing morning exercises. They seemed to have a tacit understanding: Lu Chenyang performed his Tai Chi moves leisurely, while Yan Xing performed a set of spear techniques. Then, they went to breakfast together.
We met in the cafeteria.
Seeing Zhao Xi, Lu Chenyang hurriedly asked, "Zhao Xi, were you very tired yesterday? The weather is cold. I bought you a new cotton-padded jacket and cloak. They will be delivered soon. Put on the new ones before you go."
Zhao Xi's eyes sparkled: "Thank you, sir. It's not hard for me."
Chang Jing rolled his eyes and muttered softly, "I don't know who it was yesterday. I was so tired from walking on the mountain road that I couldn't breathe..."
Zhao Xi turned her head and looked at him tenderly, saying softly, "If you say anything more, I will make you speechless."
Chang Jing looked at her gentle eyes, and for some reason, he felt that what she said was true. He always had an inexplicable fear of Zhao Xi, and this intuition had saved him many times.
So Changjing immediately shut up.
